How bad is the 24h bus ride between Vientiane and Hanoi?

- I took the sleeper bus from Vientiane (Laos) to Hanoi (Vietnam). After reading a couple of blogs where it was described as the "journey from hell", I thought it would be interesting to make a video sharing my experience. It wasn't that bad in the end.

Hi. I traveled overland from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to Kunming China via Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. We also took the exact same bus from Vientiane. The only difference was we decided to stop in Vinh (halfway to Hanoi) and take the train. However I must point out that the operators of the bus are rude and can be seen bullying foreigners. Anyway, To vinh it took us 12 hours. However, as most passengers in the bus goes to Hanoi, they called the 4 of us and dropped us in Vinh. No, not at the bus station. No, not at some random stops in the city. They dropped us off right after the toll on the highway in Vinh! We had to walk 4 Km with our heavy backpacks to finally get on a cab that took us straight to the railway station. It was another 5kms I reckon! So whoever wants to go to Vinh from Vientiane, I'd say, forget it ! You will probably regret it. Might as well take the whole route up to Hanoi, even if it is for 24 hours! Anyway, good vid Lukas! keep it coming!

Why on earth would they schedule it so you have to spend like 6 hours just waiting for the border to open? Thanks for the video though.... $130 flight suddenly seems very reasonable to me haha
Crazy trip! Nice video. Best from Brazil!
This brings back some memories. Had the same issues with getting seats at the back but once we were moving i just got a seat on its own that was free....the local people seats are not really great if your a 6ft westerner. You have to do immigration yourself as generally you need the visa stamps and have to pay the guards a little bribe unlike the locals who can pass with their asean status so the driver takes their passports. all in i kinda enjoyed the adventure but if you are easily stressed and not a relaxed easy going person then i recommend to take a flight.
I did a trip from Hanoi to Laos 2019, different from most traveler trips, where our rest area is the same. but there is an interesting thing when I arrived in Laos I was not actually dropped off at the terminal but at the side of the toll road lol
Thanks for the vidio, I took the bus at 2015. And we are the only indonesian at that time at the border. Well imho is it not as hell as described. In indonesia we have 5 day bus from various city in Java to Medan(city in sumatra) with hard seat, and it gotten worse when "mudik" time.
Thanks for the breakdown. Very informative.
Scotty Wilson you're welcome! i just tried to make the video i would have liked to see before i booked the bus.
Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang hahahah
Nice Blog bro!

Hi Lukas, thank you for the video! Me and my gf are planning on doing this trip later this month...any chance you can tell me exactly which land border did you cross?
We need to have this info for the e-visa application for Vietnam...
to be honest, i have no idea which border it was. i'm not even sure they accept e-visas there. good luck with your travels!
Is there a toilet on the bus?
where you buy ticket with that cost?
i bought it in a travel agency in the streets of vientiane. you can also buy it in hostels, but i was looking around in a few places to find the cheapest price.
Dude come to India and make videos please..!! Trust me you gonna love it ..! And you will get more subscribers 😅👍🏻
I'm going in a few months. When push comes to shove I'll likely fly, I only have three weeks for Vietnam, Laos and Thailand
geili videos! studiersch du per zuefall elektrotechnik oder hesch gstudiert?

Very Nice Bro..
holy crap LOL
that's basically the poor man's bus :)
shitty bus ride.
cheers
any idea why they give the western one shitty big bed? do you pay the same as others?
i guess it's just racism. if they see you're white, they're gonna treat you different. maybe not everywhere, but in a lot of places. i couldn't tell you about the price, maybe the locals get it even cheaper.
@@LukasSpichtig ooh okay. So I'm gonna go backpacking around there, I'm Indonesian, obviously not white. but anticipating same treatment tho. thanks for the heads up.
@@haybale_gaming dude.. It was awful. They put all the whites at the back in like one big bed just like you said, my friend and I, we are south east asian, they put us in front of the big bed. well I thought "oh okay, only whites people got the shitty bed", BUT, they put us on the miserable second floor bed, under the air conditioning machine or something, so there were not much space. It's like in a coffin. We were clueless on the break, no one speak English. At the checkpoint, it was confusing. They know it's really hard for us to complaint so they just don't care.
