Let me write you guys a story:
It is your 25th birthday and you are waking slowly through dark green woods on a path of crunchy rocks. Your significant other is by your right side, clinging to your arm. “It’s beautiful tonight.” They say, looking up at the bright moon as the light shines on them. “So are you.” You say. They look at you and say,”I know silly.” With a small chuckle. As you are waking you come across a new path and decide to see what you may find. Then, your blue phone rings in your pocket. A call from your mother. A reminder of what happened yesterday. Your mom and dad divorced. You don’t answer. A slight feeling of guilt falls over you but you push it away. As you walk further up the path things start to look different. The trees a little more green and the rocks a bit more grey. Your significant other notices the look on your face. “What’s wrong?” They say. “Nothing.” You say. Then out of nowhere a small cottage appears. It looks abandoned so you walk up to it curious as to what is inside. Looking through the window you see nothing. When you turn around no one is there. “--where are you?” There is no answer. Turning back around the window lights up and you see a blue sky with clouds. Then all of a sudden you hear the sound of a whistle and smell of rain floods your nose. You tried to scream. Nothing comes out. Now you cant see, feel, smell, taste, or hear anything. Just a blank white void. How long you have been there? No one knows. Could be a second, hour, year, decade, million years. Then for the first time, you see something. The blue sky you saw in the cottage window. Something snaps and pain in your head spreads as you open your eyes. People are huddled around you as your senses start coming back. Where are you? What happened? Are you dead? Lying in the grass you hear ambulance sirens. All feeling in your body disappears as you lose consciousness. In the same moment you wake up in a white hospital bed. You can hear a beeping sound and you can smell hand sanitizer. A nurse in the room sees you sitting up and rushes out the door. Who are you? What are you doing here? Your thoughts are interrupted by a crying woman rushing through the door. She hugs you and says,”I thought you would never wake up.” In a sniffly voice still crying. The nurse in your room tells you you were in a coma for 1 year. She tells you you slipped in the rain while playing football and suffered from a terrible concussion. She says your memory will be restored in a few weeks. The lady hugging you is your mom. Then your dad walks in the room. He sees you and rushes over. “I thought we were going to lose you.” He says. You ask where your significant other is. Your parents say there is no such person, confused. Then it all clicks. You lived 25 years in one year. Everyone you met, your friends, your family, they are all gone. This is a whole nother life.
