    Playing this game at Cidercade feels so nostalgic. The cool thing about this place is you don't have to insert coins to continue playing. Everything else is free to play.

    I had a release of Dragon's Lair for the Amiga. Came on 6 disks (3.5 floppies). It took forever to load beteen discs, and disc errors. I called the company (1989?) and they told me it's a 'feature' of the discs being written on Apple drives, as part of it's copy protection. Despite my requests and protests, they refused to send me something formated on actual Amiga drives. Went into the too frustrating to play stack. The arcade laserdisc games drove me nuts. But, it was always fun to watch someone else breeze through it.

    Did you know that the original Dragon's Lair took 6 years to be animated. Animation process started in 1977 and finally ended in 1983 which was the same year the game was first released.

    • @mwelle1
      @mwelle1 6 лет назад +4

      I believe the 6 years reference refers to Rick Dyer's initial concept of a "choose your own adventure" style game which started in the late 1970s and this was shown in one of the videos on the making of "Dragon's Lair" in the Digital Leisure 20th anniversary DVD. Bluth left Disney with John Pomeroy in 1979, but they did "The Secret of Nimh" in 1982 before the 22 minutes of full motion animation for "Dragon's Lair" was released in 1983.

      @@LyonsArcade I remember playing Sega's Astron Belt on a school trip to Belgium in 1983. That was interesting (kinda like Buck Rodgers with laserdisc backgrounds), then of course the first Dragon's Lair, which appeared in my home town around 1984. I remember it being way too expensive to play, so I'd just watch others play it. :-)

      Unfortunately I no longer have this game to video for you, we sold it shortly after filming this video. If you're getting the Time Warp on the screen I would look at the motherboard as a potential problem, as you likely know it controls the scenes the laserdisc plays.

      @@odenviking Believe it or not, LaserDisc first came out in test markets in the USA in 1978.
      However, it was very much bleeding edge at the time. Although players and discs quickly sold out, they were returned almost as fast because of problems. Philips couldn't make reliable players and MCA couldn't make good discs.
      Basically, it wasn't until Pioneer took over at around 1980 that the format would see much needed improvements.

    • @Watcher3223
      @Watcher3223 2 года назад

      Well, it looks less like laser rot and more like a single line dropout. It can be anything from a defect in the disc to the disc being dirty or severely scratched.
      Since the drop out isn't "helicoptering," the disc is obviously in CAV, or standard play, format ... which would be expected anyway because LD-based arcade games must be able to access specific frame numbers encoded on the disc. Standard play also allows the quickest possible response from the player when changing to different parts of the disc side.
      Out of curiosity, who pressed the disc? Pioneer or 3M?

An old movie about a 747 crashing into the ocean in that movie you see the guy putting a big disc to see a movie.
