      I'm not sure they understood what exactly was happening or what to do about it. They seemed like they were on holiday and I wouldn't assume they are from somewhere that gets tornados like this. Even if they did, did they know where to go? I know I sure wouldn't know what to do in a earthquake in a foreign country or what to do in case of tidal wave.

    • @AmyEugene
      @AmyEugene 24 дня назад +3

      @@evil1by1 Earthquake: get away from glass and furniture that could fall on you. Stand in a doorway, don't immediately run outside where there may be falling glass, bricks, balconies or awnings and power lines. The exception is if the shaking goes on for more than 30 seconds and you're pretty sure the building you're in isn't up to modern earthquake resilience standards. The longer the earthquake lasts, the less likely older buildings are to remain standing and in that case it's a judgement call. You could be killed by debris outside of a building or you could be killed inside a collapsed building. It's impossible to say for sure.
      If you feel an earthquake while you're on the beach, immediately run inland and up as high as you can get as fast as you can. They say don't bother getting in your car because you could end up stuck behind other vehicles that are all heading the same direction. The tsunami in Indonesia didn't have any warning except that the water was suddenly sucked away from the shore before the first wall of water hit. Some people ran to tall buildings nearby and made it up a couple flights in time and survived. The people who stood around wondering what was going on generally did not survive. There's a video of a guy who walked out where the water had been and it wasn't even ankle deep and he just stood there watching the water until it hit him. Everyone wondered if he had been frozen in fear or if he realized he was too far out to escape and just accepted his fate. Literally seconds matter.

      @MellowMaromi 25 дней назад +13

      @@bpalm7428 No, the sound of a tornado is like an army of semi trucks hauling down a gravel road. It's a deafening roar.
      That sound was the siren. Grew up hearing that EXACT noise every day at noon, because they had to blast the sirens every day to be sure they were working properly. Now they only blast it once a week as a test. Wednesday at noon in my home town, Cordell, for 1 minute exactly, and noon on Fridays for exactly 5 minutes in the town I now live in, Clinton.
      The tornado noise doesn't stop until the tornado is gone. The siren likely stopped because the one closest to them was knocked down. My childhood home has one right outside on the corner and it rotates as it sounds.

      Very true. I believe it was the Henryville IN tornado, may have been in Alabama though not sure but…
      A coach was in the hallway of the school and he said he witnessed a drink machine, full sized, pushed along the entire length of the corridor. Had the school been in operating hours, that hallway would have been packed with children. The machine would have injured and possibly killed many.
      I always told my kids idc what the teachers say you go to the bathrooms at the commons area (dead center of their school-I went there, too, so I would know) and if your teachers have a problem I’ll talk to them after the fact.

      Having once had the misfortune of being caught in a tornado (f1 thankfully and no loss of life) I want to reiterate that you need to be in the safest spot you can be in when you hear the sirens. I can tell you that once the situation goes from “I wonder if” to “oh shit” you are already out of time to make any decisions above instinct taking over. If you can, already know where you would want to shelter and have a hand crank or battery radio and some bottled water. Try to also get your pets used to sheltering there too so that’s where they default to go when scared. There is no time to strategize once it’s upon you :(

    Then I watched this video and heard Tornado Sirens dying.

    I filmed the tornado roar by me about 100 yards east of me from downtown. It sounded like a jet airplane. I filmed the entire event out in my front yard. That had 75K views in 6 days and I'm hard pressed to get 100 views although I didn't film it for views Boy it got it. That motel had boards impaled in the south side where y'all were at. Tore up on Hillcrest too.

    I stayed in a different hotel in Bartlesville about a month before this. Someone asked the manager at the front desk what they should do if there's s tornado. The guy was like, "i don't really know. My boss says people can stay in their rooms. But I'd probably come down to the downstairs hallways." This hotel has four floors. I'll come down to the lobby. 😂

    I'm glad they were safe and unharmed. Tornados are maybe second to massive wildfires regarding loss of life and structures. How will people continue to live in the midwest if tornados become more frequent and fiercer? An EF5 can demolish anchored stone houses to expose the basements and even penetrate storm shelters.

    I’m a Oklahoman so I know my tornados. I’ve been in two. One time I was in Kansas for my daughters travel ball. We were in a warning and I ask the front desk where we should go. They had no helpful tips or area where we should go. I just took my kids in the downstairs bathroom and shoved them under the sinks. Luckily nothing came our way. But places like this need a better guide for their guest.

    Yeah not a good idea to be standing around like that when a tornado hits. People... like... get vacuumed right out of their homes lol. I'm surprised how much damage it did farther into the building, considering it's the ground floor and probably at least 3 stories. Maybe from the wind blasting through?
