byrne, simonson, mignola, wrightson, barry windsor-smith, JIM LEE, frank miller and countless others have been inspiration. not to mention the classic artists... thank you for the linework. yours is among the best.
Your 90s run of X-Men is what got me into comics. The iconic issue #1 cover is still my favorite cover. These videos are great to see the master at work. It's like watching da Vinci paint the Mona Lisa but better because it's comics and not a stuffy renaissance chick.
@@VZAAGE My greatest gift, on my 50th birthday I felt the intensity and power of Jim Lee's best-selling X-Men comic, and I told my mother at that time of youth, this comic will be unsurpassed.
I agree that Jim is a legend and an inspiration. Just a heads up. I'm not sure if Jim checks in to read comments here. You should show him love on his social media accounts. You can find links for those in the description.
fun video. I actually never seen anyone do smudging with Microns. I know you can smudge them, but they dry so fast, it depends on the surface. And also Cyclops eyes on the visors have been more black than white, more like the buzzing hum of raw power. And it turns out Cyclops is in the top 5 most published character in Marvel's publication, that's insane to realize and everyone seems to not figure out, are his blasts concussion? or heat? But then again, "BAMF" is probably the third most popular Marvel sound effect too.
Ok gonna just throw in on the force vs. heat debate with Cyclops visor. I lean towards the idea of it being concussive force if for no other reason than it gives Scott’s powers much needed distinction from Clark/Superman’s heat vision. As for why there’s smoke coming out of the visor I’ll purpose that it’s the visor itself getting overheated rather than from the blast and/or there’s a certain amount of heat in his beams but not so much that it can be viewed as functioning like heat vision. Anyway that’s just my little theory/opinion about it not really meant to impose it on anyone just expressing. More on topic, love not only this piece but hearing Jim talk about loving Neal Adams and his favorite X-Men artists.
Yes, you can find Jim Lee's RUclips channel at ruclips.net/user/jimlee. He usually shares the same video content unedited so you can see more of the casual conversations that go on. On my channel, I try to maintain only the bits containing art instruction and industry information in order to save on time.
I'm kind of wondering about this too. I don't know the artistic processes of comics so maybe I'm just missing something but if my nephew showed me this I'd tell him to try again. Probably more about the demonstration I guess but there are people in the comments praising every stroke like it was pure genius and infallible lines.

Same here. Jim Lee’s X-Men got me into comics.
Greetings from Nebraska, today I turn 50 years old and I celebrate it with my favorite artist Mister X-men, Mister Jim Lee😂😂😂😂
Happy 50th Birthday! It's always a treat to get to see Jim drawing. Extra special when it's an X-Men character IMHO...

Good lord, look how clean he pulled those ink lines on the visor. He's staggeringly talented. -Dustin
You're a legend and a inspiration Jim!

Even his mistakes look amazing!
This man’s art helped bring me back to American comics, and I am grateful. I am forever a fan of Jim Lee. 😊
How this guy draw is amazing man
Nice. Pretty cool. I don't know when people talks bad things about mr. Lee's art. He's a classic, like Byrne, Ditko, Kirby or Buscema.
Great Iconic character and costume. Simple and uncluttered!
That's crazy because I've been drawing old school Cyclops too.
Jim Lee one of my favourite artist
those hatchings, Jim Lee flavor.
My favorite artest drawing my favorite character! it's going to be a great day!

I agree with everything you've said. I'm pretty sure it's canon that Cyclop's beam is concussive force. Jim was just being silly about it.
Wish I had a fraction of his skill
Your artwork looks so amazing.
The draw very good .👍👍👍
OH MY GOD! Jim Lee is feeding into Gail Simon trolling!
Make yours marvel Jim, make people love you again.
*Jim Lee Drawing Old-School Cyclops
This is off the subject a little bit, but I always thought Tom Cruise and his youth would’ve been the perfect cyclops anyone else think he would be?
He was supposed to be Iron Man, I think he would have been as good as RDJ
Watching Michelangelo at work💯

Jim do you make your own paper?

Go back to drawing Marvel Comics characters again, please...
Never thought I'd say this about jim lee, but not your best work bud!

Jim, stop being a DC shill and come back to Marvel to draw X-Men. The comic industry needs it.
Seriously.
Hes the Chief Creative Officer of DC lmao
Why would he take that pay cut lol
He’s not a shill, he basically runs the company
DC is better
part of being a good artist is covering up all the mistakes you made. LOL
