On April 7th, 2023. Officers received multiple 911 calls in regards a highly intoxicated woman who was yelling at her kid and causing a major disturbance on a bridge. The officers tried to get her to calm down however she refused to listen, and was ultimately placed under arrest. It didn’t end there though, she escaped from the back of the cop car to the front and started causing even more havoc to the point where she had to be subdued in restraints. She kicked multiple officers and even urinated on herself. This is the body-cam footage of the events that followed.

Custody was temporarily transferred to another party yesterday in court. For the charges in this case - trial still pending since she was ruled mentally unfit to stand trial

Cop here. For everyone wondering why she was able to fight back so hard, you have to understand that when we are taking someone into custody, we are doing everything we can to NOT injure them. And trying to use minimal force on someone to avoid who’s resisting as hard as they can is not easy at all. Had a situation where someone had to be taken into custody on a mental health hold. Took 3 of us to put her in a wrap and she was a 60 year old woman who weighed all of 100 lbs. again, we were desperately not trying to injure her. It’s more difficult than you think.

It's easy, from the comfort of your own home, to tell a police officer how to do their jobs, when you likely have little understanding of how to be one. And it's also likely that you don't even understand American law fully, like 90% of Americans.

That little boy was ME (50 years ago), only it was my dad being arrested repeatedly. It was traumatizing and humiliating and I’m so concerned for that child. I sometimes scream in my sleep and my husband has to wake me up. Those who have never experienced the violent chaos and boldly say “kids are resilient, he’ll be ok” simply don’t understand.
I never wanted to see somebody tazed so badly in my life.

I don't think we see anything happen to the boy during this entire video. He's definitely traumatized and I wouldn't doubt she probably verbally abused him before the police showed up. But we don't see him get hurt physically or anything. Nothing of him being in danger of falling over the bridge. But I'm just spitballing cause I don't how this shit works. Yes, due to her negligence that little boy could’ve died on that bridge. He would’ve followed his mom anywhere and with her impaired judgment he would’ve followed her into the middle of traffic. Perhaps the situation could've been resolved peacefully if the cops had been trained in de-escalation. How does this roughness help anyone? All it does it traumatize everyone. Not only that but the female cop lied twice to all her fellow officers & her superior about the initial contact! The cop claimed the woman was combative, nasty, hostile from the very first contact, claiming the woman was continually cursing her out & saying, "You fu*** bitch!!! Don't you talk to my kid!" NONE OF THAT HAPPENED! The woman said none of that; she was very cslm & polite at first actually! The lying on the part of the female cop was evil, disgraceful & very unjust.

The Child Protective Service (CPS) has a long history of leaving children in the care of the mother, whether that was the best thing for the child or not.
In this situation, it's obvious that the child is not safe with his mother. As you say, HOPEFULLY, the grandmother can get custody, but it's a long, drawn out process, with a hit-or-miss outcome.
I grew up in Florida, and CPS was called to our house, once even by my older sister. They did nothing. I pray they have overhauled the system, for this child's sake.

The woman is mentally ill, our mental healthcare system is broken. This patient cannot pursue mental health care for herself, it is part of the condition. The system will not treat the patient unless they pursue help for themselves. These officers have a tough job, but they are very uneducated about mental illness, acting like she is a bad person. Mental illness is not criminal.

As for the mental health issues of not having the back up, I do agree. It’s not a police officer’s job to make those professional decisions, it’s the doctors job. The police officers were there to do their job. Let’s not forget about what she put her son through. Please know that I’m not disregarding mental health issues because I’m not. I donate and walk for Suicide Prevention and mental health challenges every year as I agree that we do have serious issues of not having the help people need.

It is the nature of the mental illness. We need to provide departments with more psychologist to be on scene or at intake to do a proper evaluation. I thought these officers treated this woman as if she has no mental illness. It is obvious. She may be under the influence, but that does not explain the behavior. Of course the child was suffering but somebody in a psychotic episode is not aware of their child. I blame the lack of resources. It affects the whole family. It’s not uncommon for parents and family members to not understand the illness. They too may see it as bad behavior.
