You did a great review. I agree with you 💯 about the strobe to get back to high. A lot like weltool t8 tac. The best thing I would do is unfortunately turn it off quickly, then it would immediately come on high.
If you know what could be the stress reactions during an emergency fly or fight scenario, you will understand that your hands' dexterity will be severely diminished, and most probably you will not be able to remember all the "multiple features" of the flashlight or your hands will not obey your confused brain's commands. A realistic defensive flashlight has to be simple and limited: momentary on-off. That's why I love SURFIRE'S "gas pedal switch", a little press= 5 lumen (it's more than that but the firm is conservative), HIGH PRESS like when you are in panic-mode and your hands are tense= ALL lumen. If you are not in an emergency and you need constant ON, you have the time and dexterity to twist the switch.
Thank you for your review, sir😃
These look like some pretty cool lights. Not what I would call a true defensive light but a decent and versatile light for sure. It seems many brands are copying the Thyrm Switchback but the Thyrm option is definitely superior especially when paired with a true self defense light like an Elzetta Bravo B331. Nextorch continues to surprise me though. I only have one light from them and was surprised by how good it was for the asking price. They seem to be doing their own thing unlike a few of the other overseas brands and that certainly says something.
I agree with your points Dom.
TA30C:
Tac ring is ESSENTIAL
Like the direct access to the lowest mode (not low enough, but ok)
Everything is fine, the only thing I like on the TA20 over the TA30c is the form factor.
TA20:
Battery indicator is useful but excluded.
Wish Duty starts from low to high, then strobe is fine at the end after high/turbo, as long as no memory (always start with low in duty mode)
I also requested an EDC mode.
Heck I would even settle with momentary low/ml on the lockout mode.
Yes these are nice lights! But for law enforcement applications not edc imo, I'm really digging the olight mini warrior 3! The tailcap is magical magnificent! This is my new favorite edc, of course thanks to you talking me into the stunning radiant green!
One light I think you will love for edc is the rovyvon a28 gen 2 amazing light
Just got that 2 weeks ago. Loving it. I can't imagine using anything else(for EDC purposes)
glad you guys have $$$
I'm NOT spending over $100 for a flashlight!
I have used old version, TA30 for over a year as EDC. I like it, but it has some cons:
-Original clip broke when i applied force to bend it in or off, don't know if it's better in new ones
- it doesn't tailstand, fixed in new "max" models
- momentary button isn't covered and i had pressed it accidentally while in pocket and flashlight melted pocket lining.
-momentary button sometimes goes straight to strobe on half press, feels like mechanical issue
-the biggest one - magnetic ring sometimes turns to low mode while wearing in pocket without me noticing. Without battery indicator on old model it caused couple times not having any battery juice left when i needed to use it.
Considering price of max models (one with tail cap covers) about 130 I'm thinking about changing to Olight warrior mini 3 or nitecore EDC 27
Geiles Video, geile Lampe ,werde sie mir bei dir kaufen ,aber habe noch in keinem Video gehört ,wo jemand erwähnt, oder drauf eingeht ob man den Ring auch als zivil Person tragen darf an der Lampe
As a police officer, the strobe in the duty setting would be very handy. Since it is called "Duty," I would say that is who it would be geared towards.
I hope you'll let us know when they fix the low/strobe issue. I'll buy one then, but not now. Thanks!
May I know your detail advice, I can put it down to feedback notes? 😃
How is using the tactical ring on your index instead of your middle finger? Middle finger seems pretty useless to me since you can't rotate it back and forth easily. Also, using a tactical ring to have a proper grip on a firearm requires the ring to be on your index as well, for proper light activation. Thank you!
I can see my pinkie getting snapped in half using it. Looks coool
Have you ever looked at Inova torches, or flashlights as you guys call them? I never see them featured. Sorry off topic
If you don't want strobe mode in "duty" setup, you can full press the switch when it goes on low mode to turn off, or then turn it on to turbo. I never had any trouble on that, but if it had a way to setup low to high, like "TAC/DUTY/*DAILY*/LOCK", I guess it would be better.
The new version has removed the flash in the "day" mode
It'd be nice if a Thyrm SwitchBack tactical ring could be used. I.e. Make the rotary switch thinner and shift the ring further up toward the tail. Then have the rotary switch and button sticking out the back of a SwitchBack.
i just need the ring attachment or similar for the lights i already have. someone will probably have a heavy duty 3D printed version within a day or two of watching this.
low to strobe is really a blocker. should have strobe in tac only not in duty
I love the videos! Keep 'em comin'
You get no nonsense information out there to us on products that few other people are talking about.
The rotary concept is really cool and not often seen in lights under $100. I like the focus of the TA30 being an edc light with quick access to defensive focused or "tactical" features. There is one really big miss for my purposes, though, the strobe. My "tactical" uses of my light are to bring daylight to the night if I need to use my firearm, with the focus on positive identification. Is this a threat? What's in his hand? His phone or a weapon? A strobe is terrible for that purpose. Strobes are great for signaling and disoreinting, however a 1000+ lumen light with high candela is going to blind just as well for the brief moment I need to decern what my next move needs to be. A bright light takes information away from them and gives information to me. Win Win! A strobe takes information away from both of us.
My solution? Have the half press on the tail switch be a decent amount of lumens, 300-600, and a full press bring all the lumens of the sun. That way, when I need my light for a serious task, I can mash that tail switch as hard as I want and go to work. The Olight Mini Warrior 2 does that and that's why I carry it, though a rotary switch would make the access to the lower levels much more convenient. Even better, a rotary switch that gives infinite adjustment of light and a tailswitch that is only turbo/high. Now I'm just dreaming.
I get a lot of people love their strobes, but I think it should be left exclusively on rave mode. Just my 2 cents.
I used to also find that strobe was useless until I saw it stop a pack of street dogs in their tracks..turns out it has some interesting niche purposes.
Like the ring option if it was metal
Hello, I have a question. I'm now getting to know all the different flashlight options, I didn't imagine there were so many brands, I preferred to buy a North American brand, but when I saw that both Streamlight and Surefire make flashlights that don't seem to innovate as much and aren't extremely modest in terms of lumens and candelas I'm interested in Chinese brands.
Like everyone else, I like to buy products that last a long time, in your experience which brands last the longest without showing defects? Which flashlights from which brands have you used for years and have not failed.
nextorch、fenix、olight is very good!
Can you use the ring on those flashlights to mount the lights on a bicycle handlebar?
Depends on what handlebars set up you have. Ring diameter on my ta30 is 26.5mm but it's not full circle. From flashlight body to opposing ring side measurements are 24.5 mm.
But to put it on and off you need to unscrew tail or buy ring which has clip mount, nextorch has one.
Also, I don't think it will stay in place as it should during ride if you'll managed to put it on, too much weight on front of "mount"
TA20 or Weltool T1 Pro Tac?
T1 Pro tac no question
@@maxlvledcthanks! What would you recommend if I want to use a tac ring (either included or compatible with Thrym)?
@ajr91987 hmm, no idea..I'd have to 3d printed one I'm guessing
$100 for a flashlight with a plastic ring....hard pass. Don't need this when there is the Thyrm switchback for ~$20.
And one could 3d print the same kind of ring for any flashlight.
@Ub3rMario It is surprising that 3d printing fulfills so may applications. If I only knew how to 3d model, I could conquer the world 🌎! Same thing we do everyday pinky.
A added red light would be nice 2. For a professionel User (military ,police, security services aso) a red light is a usefull tool (f.E. to read something )
TA21?
Algo
Nah I'll pass
Been rocking the original Nebo Torchy and Torchy 2K
It's cheaper and they have never failed me.
Cowabunga.!
Strobe is useless!! It blinds me rather than the attacker... I use Streamlight's Protac 1L-AA just 350 lumens and Programmable... I do Low then High... High is really blinding with a beam distance of 160m... N its cheap too! Abt 60 SGD
