  • Do you struggle to know how much lead to give a crow? Or maybe just curious to know how I shoot crows?
    Then hopefully you will enjoy this video!
    I talk a bit about what targets I see over the decoys and how I go about shooting them. The video includes real life examples of my techniques and leads given on different targets.
    It's a bit different from the normal videos I post but hopefully you will enjoy this and maybe it will help some of you get more crows in the bag.
    Please Like and Comment, I'd like to know if the video was useful and whether you'd like to see some more content like this 👍
    Hot Barrels,

    Great video mate! For me, I know when I first got into Crows, I was coming from Clay shooting. It took me a good day or so to understand that I was actually over leading the birds, and I think this is a common mistake for Clay shooters who get a permission to shoot crows. Ive told mates since, if you're missing, just shorten the lead. For anything closer than 25 yards and slow, put it on the beak and keep the gun moving.... Great videos budd, I love catching up with what your up to!

      Thank you bud! I know exactly what you mean, I’ve shot a lot of clays in the past and find that I shoot crows best with swing through. Helps me not to over lead them 👍 Glad your enjoying the channel bud

    So hard to explain lead, its a game of knowledge/ feeling... driven targets a "bit easier" , but crows are hard. You are spot on, letting them move so the line is straight. But its hard to comprihend, you need to shoot thousands of shots, before it really makes sence. Thankyou for taking the time to try to explain!!

    Hi Rob, Marcus from holland again , very interesting video about how much lead on the crows. You state: line is the key , i agree with you , very important , but in my opinion the reason that most average talented gameshots miss game or vermin like black is that they do not see lead, ( read : no awareness of where the barrel is in relation to bird they shoot at )
    I do not know if you shoot instictively ( read : shoot without aware of where the barrel is when you pull the trigger ) or that you see lead.
    They say everybody sees lead different , i agree with that but the biggest problem with gameshooters is that they shoot instictevly ( sorry for my poor english ) although they do not have the talent to do so. I can make the reaction much longer but i leave with this as the matter is to complicated to make a complete story in a few words , as a gameshooter instructor in Holland i am about to laungh a video on RUclips i made with a client about this subject, the problem for you will be that it is Dutch spoken so you will probably not know what i am talking about, but if you are still interested to see the video's in the future i can send you the link as soon it is available , bye for now

    • @fieldsportswithspeed
      @fieldsportswithspeed  9 месяцев назад

      Hi Marcus, thank you for the nice comment. I agree with you. There are so many factors to consider and barrel awareness is so important. I shoot many different techniques depending on the target but always aware of my barrel because like I have said to many, ‘if you don’t know where the barrel is, how do you know the shot is going where you think’..
      Would love to see the video, please send the link. 👍👍

    • @marcus3769
      @marcus3769 9 месяцев назад

      Hi Rob, Marcus again , thank's for the quick reply, good to read that you agree with me that barrel awareness, in our opinion, is the key to good shooting. As soon as the video's i have made with my friend are posted on youtube i will send you the link.
      A very interesting video about this matter: instinctive shooting versus shooting with barrel awareness has just been posted by TGS called :instinctive shooting 101! with Ed solomons, i am anxious to hear from you what you think of that video, although Ed completely agree's with us, if you look at the video's of him with clients he does not teach this methed to his clients very weird, i would love to ask him why, do you know personally ?
      Bye for now, and we keep in touch

    Good video. But perceived lead depends on pull away (as in your video), maintained lead, or swing through.
    The more videos the better - all most enjoyable.
    Why not do one experimenting on clays with different methods?

    I assume you're using lead shot. Most of that has been banned in Canada.

    I think 32g of lead should be sufficient for crows :D

      Absolutely 32g and 34g absolutely rinse them! Recoil is the only issue when my back isn’t good

    Another excellent video & my only point of difference would be the bit about being a visual learner. This is part of the Visual Auditory & Kinaesthetic (VAK) or Learning Styles theory, which sadly has 40 years of very serious research which shows it fails to meet the threshold as being an evidence-backed pedagogy (the method, and practice, of teaching & learning). While many people including teachers believe in VAK it's akin to homeopathy compared to evidence-based medicine. A good way to explain this would be that if a viewer was a 'visual learner' you wouldn't need to have any voice-over or explanation of lead, line and the other factors you cover. Equally if you were an 'auditory learner' you could just have the voice-over and nothing else and you'd learn as much (actually you wouldn't). That's not to say vision is not part of most learning, but teaching (which you are actually doing) is a complex mix of several things even in a video like this. To make it even more confusing BASC's Shotgun coaches course is based on the VAK model and their course when I did it was accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. While the SQA did this several years, I seriously doubt it's something they would do now. In 2016 when I did the BASC course I asked a friend who is probably the foremost educationalist in Scotland (of his generation) and his reply was, "Learning styles as interpreted by your course manager do NOT play a core part of learning in Scotland, or anywhere else that values what really matters in the classroom". Sorry to be pedantic, but your videos are excellent as were your explanations about line, lead, the benefits of Shotkam, however using the VAK model to explain teaching and learning is as outdated as the use of smoke enemas to treat cholera (yes it really occurred and was used as an alternative to opium).

      Thank you for the explanation Richard 👍 Hopefully it will help a few people. I’m certainly no tutor but tried my best to explain how I shoot 😁 Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the comment
