- I made something useless but fun!
In this video, I will be showing you how I made a mechanical 7 segment display using electromagnets. I want to let you know that this is not an efficient design. I have used whatever I had already laying around. I will try to improve it in the future maybe but for now, I am having fun!

You know hackaday.com has this video
Lol or they stole it 😜😂
Would it be possible to make the Solenoids AC coupled to reduce peak current draw and prevent shorting/overheating?
Amazing man!
I would just make a wall of these 😍
Thank you! Yeah! I can look at them all day. And also the sound the segments make!
Very cool!!😎😎😎
Thank you!
Nice project, I suggest painting the edges of the display black so you get more contrast or using a different filament for the top of the numbers than the sides or you could paint the top of the segments and the display black. Hopefully you continue this project and shrink it down. I think it would be really interesting for my final project if I used mechanical 7 segment display rather than traditional.
Can you post a video of the noise of the machine? I would be very interested in hearing the mechanism.
I have been experimenting with some interesting applications of non standard use of seven segment displays. Hopefully I get time to finish the project soon.
Thanks a lot! Yes, I will be working to improve the current design. I have received a lot of such amazing suggestions.
Talking about the noise, check out the video clip at 2:58 or check out my instagram account. I had upload a video of it without any background music.
Awesome!! I might use bistable solenoids so it uses less power but I am absolutely stealing this!!
Great! Go for it! I would love to see it.
Absolutely awesome and very unique project, I love it. I might take a look at this, would like to have the magnets slide a "door" sideways so the segments could show as a different colour. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks a lot! That's a great idea! Go for it!
