I went into the United States Army in 1980, I graduated Jun 1980 and on Aug 28th 1980, my date of entry and Fort Dix, New Jersey.
While chillin with my Army buddies, at my first assignment in Fort Knox, KY and my FOREVER DUDES in the 5th Battalion, 33rd Armor, 193rd Armored Brigade.. ❤.. a white dude..NO LIE! from Radcliffe, Kentucky took me into his room to drink some real Kentucky Bourbon (never had before..lol) and PLAYED for the next three hours simply.. TO ME!
The Greatest Album EVER!! and I been a Roy Ayers fan since..
Which is why I had to say something. ❤ TRUE STORY!
I'm 61 year's old and retired now..my favorite cuts Me Nois Se and Master Plan.
Had to say something thanks Roy for something soooooo long lasting. ❤

Bless up! I hail from Chicago and the DJ's played a lot of Roy's jam on the radio back in the '80's. However, I was in Japan in the '90's and I came across this Roy Album that I never heard before that date and it blew my mind and I became a bigger fan of Roy and a new fan of Fela. I had just graduated from high school overseas two years before the release of ACOTW ( rel. 1980 ). So when the fam and I got back Stateside that year, I didn't know that this had already been released. Fast forward to 1983: shortly after being inducted into the Navy, I continued my training in A & C school the following year at Fleet Combat Training Center in Virginia Beach. Unlike the other sailors that went on liberty who went north to the strip, instead I headed west to Norfolk. Back in the days before the internet, I knew almost instinctively where to go to get good music. At that time there had been a record and tape shop on Granby St a few blocks away from the former Judge's Chambers on Monticello Ave. I don't recall having seen this album there at the time ( I picked up anything by Roy that I saw in any record store ); I wound up buying what was a follow up, Lots Of Love. Lots Of Love was the culmination of the projects done with Nigerian multi_instrumentalist, Fela Kuti. To this day Lots Of Love remains my favorite Roy Ayers album. It was not until years later that I even became acquainted with the work on ACOTW. It seems like this one was a sleeper - I don't know. Yet still as far as Roy Ayers endeavors, go it's solid! 😎 To this day, my favorite track on the album is River Niger. Third Eye is somethin' 2 cruise to and I'm warming up to the others as well 🎼🎵🎶

I too am a life long Roy Ayers fan since the 70's. He brought that jazz fusion on those vibes. I have probably all his albums either on vinyl, cassette, and CD. I don't think my 8tracks withstood the test of time. But from college to the military Roy had something for every journey your ear and mind could endure. Another one of favorites was Everbody loves the Sunshine especially on a beautiful weekend morning. I loved to ride and listen to that jam while cruising. All his music so mellow and funky in a smooth way. Still putting it out there.
