Great video! This is my dream espresso machine and there is very little content here on RUclips about it, so I am excited to see more about the machine from you in the future!
These machines can be awesome. However I opted for a GS3 after reading of many many issues of reliability with single group slayers. Have first hand experience of machines going down and poor service to get parts, often waiting much too long and having unusable machines. Reliability and service is paramount when dropping this kind of money on something. LM wins in this category hands down
Hi Kyle, I watched this video maybe 10-20 times already since launched, LOL. I've been wanting to upgrade my GS3 MP with either Slayer or Strada EP1, but I am enjoying my manual flow profiling using a manual paddle (3-6-9-6-3 bars while brewing), I believe Slayer only have pre-brew and full brewing and can't do manual flow profiling like GS3 MP but ofcourse this means consistency and repeatability. Can you share why you'd go for Slayer over Strada EP1? I know you mentioned, Slayer vs GS3 but Strada EP1 is the same level as Slayer than GS3. I'm a fan and keep it going bud! Cheers! Congrats with your September Coffee 💪

Great video. After watching this I have decided to stick to my Folgers instant coffee and brown water. Hey thanks for this video, I love this machine because of its looks :) I have had a couple ECM machines for a few years. Just yesterday I had a chance to play around with a Slayer 2 group machine that a friend who owns roastery and coffee shop is selling. I have to say the actuation of the steam wand and hot water arm left me a bit disappointed but otherwise it's an amazing machine. All that said, in my opinion, I don't think there's a more beautiful machine than the Kees Van Der Westen Speedster. That's my Ferrari poster. My end game.

Beside the productivity/comfort aspect of having it plumbed in, why don't you plan to keep it with the water tank? Thank you very much!

I would like to hear your thoughts on at what price point would I notice a quality improvement with a electric grinder, asides obvious from workflow. Especially for a home user that brews maybe only 4 - 5 cups a day. Cheers!
Love the video - not many people have paid $US10+k for one to use and review. Thank you! Do I understand correctly that there are two flow settings - preinfusion, and brewing? So you can’t ramp manually from one to the other - it goes directly from, in your case 2 ml/sec to 9? Hmm. BTW, isn’t 9 ml/sec basically a fire hose? In my flow profiles, I generally use around 1.5 ml/sec so I can’t quite get my head around 9 ml/sec - is that basically a turbo shot - or *incredibly* fine grounds? Am I right in saying you have to lift the lid to make those needle valve adjustmemts each time you want to make a change in flow? I’m a Decent owner, so maybe I’ve been spoiled, but a) I don’t expect to have to pop the lid every time I want to make a change, and b) I actually thought the Slayer allowed the user to manually / gradually transition from pre infusion to infusion with the paddle, rather than it just acting as a glorified switch in between. But maybe I’ve misunderstood what you’re showing here. Having said all that, she’s a thing of beauty and I’d give my right arm to have one for a month.
1.5ml/sec (needle valve setting) and 9ml/sec (9bar) is the flow of water with the group fully open with no resistance (ground coffee). Yes you lift the tray and and adjust the blue knob for the needle valve, it is pretty much set and forget. It is not a pressure profiling machine
Hi Kyle, I am upgrading my Linea mini to a Slayer, I have a niche zero at the moment and I really love this grinder and wish I could keep it… Do you think the Niche can pair up with the Slayer, or do I have to go for a higher end grinder ?
The best espresso shot I ever had in my life was pulled on a Slayer machine, it was not even close, even compared to some of the great LaMarzocco machines there was a noticeable difference in just the smoothness and sweetness of the shot, completely opened my eyes to that ‘next level’ of espresso we’ve all been chasing but rarely get to experience. Really love the machine, just won’t ever be able to justify buying one to the wife! Haha
Great review and one of the most desirable coffee machines I have ever seen.. however you really ruined the workflow with the ad tbh.. 😅 Also a question: (how) is pressure profiling different on manual machines like robot/flair58?
It’s either that or a separate ad but then most people skip and I’m trying to be creative! Flair and robot will have variable flow profiling which allows you to change the flow on the fly. The slayer had set pre brew flow rates
@@KyleRowsell I appreciate that creative idea! But does it make a difference to you when people (like me) skip the ad in the middle (particularly from a revenue POV)? Interesting and thanks for the reply. I do have a robot and am absolutely in love with it. I was just wondering whether the output/quality/taste of shots with similar flow profile would also be similar or whether it cannot really be compared :) (Not gonna lie, the Slayer would be my absolute endgame but at a later point in my life so thanks so much for the great review)
@@ThePlayahans it’s not about revenue at all tbh. That doesn’t change. It’s about staying creative and ensuring that my videos are cookie cutter in nature. Also RUclips rewards on the algorithm big time for view retention. That truly helps with growth.
I am curious about the reasons that you did not choose Decent. DE1 is capable of using a lot profiles with precision and its group head controller can be used to control the flow manually like Slayer does.
@@SteveKuznetsov Where? The Decent is not a commercial machine in any way. The steam power is abysmal and not comparable in the slightest to a commercial machine.

@5:42 Well, at this rather ”professional price point“… Do I see this correctly that you are using an additional Acaia scale? Would you have expected them to include a scale in the drip tray - despite of having a different ”work flow“ with this machine anyway? So, their flow profiling is mainly time- and pressure-based which needs to be second by user action - and thus nothing that is determined by ”weight“?
It's a nice looking machine but way to expensive for what it offers. There is no heat exchanger for the coffee boiler and no isolatian at all. Furthermore the pressure transducer breaks way too fast and isn't needed. A second pid and an internal pressure gauge would be better. There is also no usage of the 24V pump. Alright Alright Alright! Very nice, your comparisons to Lambo/Ferrari posters is right on! So glad you’ve been able to afford one finally! Slayer is a dream machine.
Is this part 1 of 2? Feels like you left a lot of things out. Not a lot of talk about the espresso. Does it suffer from uneven extraction because of the super slow pre brew, something Scott Rao and John Buckman were talking about. You didn't address also that the hot water tap has no mixing valve + other minor things. Is the shot mirror useful comes to mind, cause I've seen people adding additional mirror. Love to see a workflow video of it.
I wasn’t addressing the brewing mechanics in this video like slayer shot extractions. The video would be too long. I’ll be covering a lot more in future videos.
The GS3 MP paddle does not stick, at least mine does not. you can adjust this pretty easily if it is an issue. I was lucky enough to be in your position a few years ago. There are a few reasons I did not pick the Slayer. 1) The Slayer can only be plumbed. realistically the feed method you have would not be ideal for 90% of users. 2) Cost and availability of spares. This is something that most people don’t consider. 3) Power consumption. LM is 110, Slayer is 220. That pretty much speaks for itself. Having a machine go from cold to hot 365 times a year adds a lot of wear. 4) The LM GS3 MP has no limitation when pulling a shot. The Slayer does! However, in a commercial environment, I would pick either a Slayer or Synesso. Leaning more toward a Synesso if money was not an issue.
Hey! Thanks for the comment friend! A few things you’ve noted are out of date: 1. Slayer now has a rotary vane so no external pump is needed. You can have a water tank below with a hose and it’ll draw water. 2. Slayer is 110. This model here is 110. But I hear you. The gs3 is also beautiful. And I’d love one!
@@KyleRowsell Yes, the GS3 has a rotary vane as well. My point is that the solution you are using to get around plumbing is not something most people will consider. It is a liability as a gallon water spilled on wood flooring can do some major damage. Addionally you can get bacteria growth in plastic containers. why not RO and plumb a line in? I think if you lived with any machine for 6 months you will get used it.
@@KyleRowsell that is the reason why remineralization is important. Doesn't TWW have a commercial system? Have given any of the barista hustle recipes a try and compare to TWW?
The decent is a engineering masterpiece in terms of its capabilities for espresso profiling. This is naturally a more mechanical machine with commercial parts for a cafe setting
Its definitely nice machine or (dreaming machine) nice review from a to z and finally nice to watch you again 🥰 (don't forget share with us your experience in updated eureka single dose) see you again 🌹
True. But spring levers operate and profile very differently than a flow profile capable machine. It slams with 10+ bars after preinfusion and slowly ramps down.
Man, I hope your experience is different but multiple friends of mine have had slayers on their bars, from single group coffee carts to high volume three groups and every single one of them had major complaints about how often the slayer was down and needed service. Every one of them has now replaced their slayers with La Marzocco’s.
I’ve heard those things as well, I’ve also heard of every brand having its own issues. So far so good but I will keep everyone posted. I’d love to be the test pilot to see how true this is in the newest model.
What types of issues are most common with the slayer machines and what options are there for getting them serviced. Are these issues more likely in a high volume setting or is it just as likely with light home use? Thanks.
I paused the video exactly when you show machines that are capable of flow profiling just so I could confirm and complain about the fact that you didn’t include the GCP with the dimmer mod. For shame!!! Jk love your videos Kyle thanks for making specialty coffee accessible to the masses and not just the snobbish elite!
I'd argue you're really better off cross shopping against proper 1 group commercial machines like Synesso MVP Hydra and 1 Group LM Stradas for your use case. Coming from a comercial 2 group as caleb falk mentions 240v 10A (2400W) operation is not it.

@@KyleRowsell good. Also, I've seen some hour long Lance Hardwood...I mean Hedrick (😁) videos, so no problem with longer reviews. 😉
how much is it
The GS3 MP paddle does not stick, at least mine does not. you can adjust this pretty easily if it is an issue.
A few things you’ve noted are out of date:
@@finder2267 because as I outlined the profiles I get from TWW are superior for me. And RO lacks the alkalinity espresso needs.
@@KyleRowsell that is the reason why remineralization is important.
Doesn't TWW have a commercial system?
Have given any of the barista hustle recipes a try and compare to TWW?
how would something like this compare with the decent?
The decent is a engineering masterpiece in terms of its capabilities for espresso profiling. This is naturally a more mechanical machine with commercial parts for a cafe setting
@@KyleRowsell Awesome! I really do love videos like this! Helps make my decision for an espresso machine easier in the future!
Its definitely nice machine or (dreaming machine) nice review from a to z and finally nice to watch you again 🥰 (don't forget share with us your experience in updated eureka single dose) see you again 🌹
Eureka video soon
Prebrew flow adjustment with knob under the hood. "Laughs in Decent" :D However: Nice looking machine!
Haha for sure. Decent is incredible!
What's that odd espresso machine that was shown during the flow profile section? It was on 4 tall legs.
Sptk-1
@@KyleRowsell cheers
Single?
Great video - just noticed the title misspelled ‘single’. Wanted to let you know early on in case you needed/wanted to reupload
It’s too late to reupload. But yes I noticed. Thank you!
The espresso equivalent of a Roon Nucleus! I want both.
Thank you for showing how you "plumbed" the machine. That would be a perfect solution for me.
You’re welcome
It doesn't have a non burn steam wand!!!! I think that's shocking but there must be a reason, what's the reason?
It's interesting how flow profiling is such a big deal today when back in the day of spring levers this was the norm.
True. But spring levers operate and profile very differently than a flow profile capable machine. It slams with 10+ bars after preinfusion and slowly ramps down.
Still my dream machine but just too expensive. Making do with a Breville Dual Boiler instead. 😅
Boom, totally agree. La Marzocco is itt
What types of issues are most common with the slayer machines and what options are there for getting them serviced. Are these issues more likely in a high volume setting or is it just as likely with light home use? Thanks.
IMO, they should ditch the screen altogether and have BT/WIFI along with a mobile app (assuming here this is not the case).
I would have loved to see you brew a coffee with the slayer in this review.
I did
I paused the video exactly when you show machines that are capable of flow profiling just so I could confirm and complain about the fact that you didn’t include the GCP with the dimmer mod. For shame!!! Jk love your videos Kyle thanks for making specialty coffee accessible to the masses and not just the snobbish elite!
Haha yeah, it’s an amazing mod. Especially now that there’s a more official version. Couldn’t include them all!
Checking out at your weird squarespace mashup. Just thought you might want to know
So are you opening a shop?
I’ll share more soon Daniel!
Need to get a review on the bezzera eagle tho
Single group. Noticed a typo in the beginning
I'd argue you're really better off cross shopping against proper 1 group commercial machines like Synesso MVP Hydra and 1 Group LM Stradas for your use case. Coming from a comercial 2 group as caleb falk mentions 240v 10A (2400W) operation is not it.
Secret Roastery...👀👀👀
👀
0:48 Signle Group?
Oh no…
@@KyleRowsell Haha, life is like that, you're just making coffee and coffee content, making the world a happier, more caffeinated place, and then some jerk on the internet points out a spelling error and ruins everything.
In all seriousness, love your content man, you're doing good work in such a competitive space.
@@geraldl5221 haha it’s all good. I appreciate it. And thank you!
@@KyleRowsell Let it this way, nobody cares
Back again in this video
Can't believe that there are people that from all that video, you noticed only the "signle" thing
The finger pointing the moon, and you are still looking the finger....
Love the first video text saying Slayer Signle group :D
So do I
@@KyleRowsell glad that you like the machine, its awesome!
I love that your production value went up dramatically for the past few months... Keep up the great work!
I think your next Machine review should be the Sanremo YOU. It looks insane.
@@royack there was talks of me getting a test unit from Sanremo for a video. Haven’t heard anything in a while
Signle Group?
I know… it’s a spelling mistake
Great video Kyle!
But I’d like to caution you from storing your kids toys, or anything else for that matter, in a room with exposed fibreglass batts. I’m a carpenter and always wear a decent mask, gloves and goggles wen installing these batts. There’s a lot of speculation within the industry about the long term health effects of the glass fibers, should they get into your lungs. Some say it may be the new asbestos, but I don’t think there’s sufficient research on that yet. So, to be on the safe side, I’d recommend you get some plasterboard on these walls soon and wash the toys before handing them to your kiddo.
All the best and thanks for all the great content!
Thanks for watching out for me on that!
Simply amazing 🤩.
Congratulations young man this is something extraordinary.
Enjoy your new Lamborghini coffee machine lol.
🧡💜💙☕✌️
lol the typo in the intro...must hurt you 😀 good content thanks
It does
