I had a substitute teacher in high school, Mr. Flowers who was fairly old. (probably late 60s to mid 70s) He always carried a small pocket knife. He used it to cut string and unjam the pencil sharpener and stuff like that. The he said the other teachers never knew he had it, but he could trust us kids not to snitch on him. He was a bad ass. I asked him if having that knife in school ever got him into trouble, and he said no, and we got to talking, and he told me, that when he was around 16, going to that same school, he would go squirrel hunting in the morning before the tardy bell rang. He kept his shotgun in the back window of his truck. One afternoon during lunch hour the new principal called him into his office, and asked him if he had a shotgun in his truck. Mr. Flowers said yes he did, and the principal walked him out to the parking lot, and asked Flowers to see the gun. After looking at the gun, the principal took Flowers to his truck and showed him HIS shotgun! Just shows how much we have changed.

Terminator Nation well, all that took place in the 1940s or 50s. Mr. flowers has been dead for quite a while. Now if a kid were to leave a shotgun in his truck, swat teams would be called, lock downs would be enforced, teams of psycoloists would be hired to help "our youth overcome this horrifying attack"....what the hell America! chances are the damn thing aint loaded, and just seeing a boom stick wont kill ya!

well, some school is better than no school ya know. I agree that the educational system is not a s good as it should be. BUT my freshman year of highschool I had a big revalation. I am a big history buff. Around that time I stumbled across the old lewis hine photos of the 8 year olds working in the cotton mills and coal mines and meat packing plants etc. I realized how lucky we are to have a public education system. My great grandfather had to quit school in the 3rd grade to work at a gravel quarry. My grandfather dropped out his sophomore year to earn money to support his family. In one class we had some jackass who diddnt care if he flunked out and how "this school blows". He was acting up and disrupting class, and I got pissed and stood up and said in a decently loud voice "YOU MAY NOT REALIZE HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO BE SITTING AT THAT DESK RIGHT NOW! 90 SOME YEARS AGO YOU COULD HAVE BEEN HAVING YOUR HAND MANGLED IN A FACTORY MACHINE! BETTER GET YOUR DUMB SELF RIGHT, BECAUSE BEING STUPID LIKE YOU ARE RIGHT NOW IS A POVERTY TRADE. AND ILL GO TO HELL BEFORE I LET YOU DENY ME OF MY EDUCATION! SO SHUT UP SIT DOWN AND START BETTERING YOURSELF!" i almost got sent to the office for that. but mr. dumbass never opened his trap again around me after that.

when i was in highschool i was kind of shy, and i was getting picked on alot.
but the coolest thing was, my best friend was the most popular kid in school(i shit you not, he was a comedian and won the talent show because people like him)
anyways, he was friends with the kids picking on me and one day the kids stopped picking on me, and it was wierd for me.
it turned out, my friend had told them that i was mentally insane, and was waiting for someone to do something so i could kill them.
which was the farthest thing from the truth, i wouldnt hurt a fly.
but the bullies actually believed him because i was shy and didnt talk much.
this was how i stopped getting bullied...
today im still best friends with this guy and he always has my back:D

Laglemamu'g Gjiga'qaquj it`s funny how this describes my story so well, except for the part that it was your popular friend who stopped them.
what i mean is that i look like kind of a ``shy`` guy and i AM a very friendly guy, until you know me, but you get so attached to me that, when you realise who i really am, it`s too late for you to let go.
now, let me explain what exactly do i mean : i`m the kind of guy that scares people away, because, what are you gonna do when there`s a 6 ft tall guy looking at you like he`s seeking for revenge, annoy him? and why do i defind myself as ``shy``, is because im the silent kind of scary person. you know, not saying anything and never smiling. yeah, that kind of guy. and just to give you an idea, my public name, is scarecrow. but they are right to be scared of me, because, i was, as you said, going to kill one of them if they were to annoy me one more time. now you may go and call me deranged or mentally insane, but before you do so, let me ask you one question : who is more deranged, the bees in their hive, minding their bussiness, or the kid poking it with a stick?....

I unknowingly took a boot knife onto a plane at once. I was using my go-bag for reasons and I forgot to take it out of one of the pockets. I went through security without a problem and my bag (with the knife inside) went through the x-ray without problem and I didn't even know I had it until I started to unpack at the hotel.Thank you TSA, you make me feel so safe.

Knife laws are really sad.. There is a story at my high school about a girl a few years back with a perfect GPA and a 34 ACT score.. Practically a genius.. Had scholarships to anywhere she wanted.. Taken away because she was expelled after she forgot her purse at school, it was then searched because of recent bomb threats, revealing a Keychain utility knife.. Ruined her life

We get mass killer and other criminals because we make kids bottle up their anger. Let kids punch each other out every so often. They quickly learn fighting has consequences and pick their fights wisely and bullies learn that sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted.

I remember that one time in the 8th grade I was planning on running away (its 8th grade don't judge) so I had packed my school bag with knives. I had forgotten I had all those knives in my bag and I had brought the bag with me to school. Halfway through the day I had realized that I had 8 spring assisted 5+ inch blade knives in my bag. In my state spring assisted knives where illegal, so where any blades over 4 inches. So if i had gotten caught I probably would have been expelled. One of the knives was inside the side bag pocket and in the science classroom I dropped my bag down on the ground and one of the knives fell and opened right in front of one of the kids. I looked up at him ( I was sitting down) with a feeling of death on my chest, he looked at me and we made eye contact and I was just speechless. I was trying to speak but I had just gotten a big wave of panic/fear/sadness wash over me so all I could say was "p-p-please do not t-tell…" and the kid just looked at me, nodded, and ended up not telling. by the time I got home I was ready to faint. So yeah, thats my story.

My friend brought a gunstock to school to make a shortened one in wood shop so his sister could shoot the gun and the principle found out and gave him detention. The teacher stood up for him and said "it's a piece of wood, it's n differint than this 2x4 and the only reason you have an issue with it is because you want to" which is true

When I was in school we all brought our knives with us. It was considered normal back then to carry a pocket knife and nobody thought anything of it. A few of us used to bring our rifles to school on days when we had rifle practice. In those days schools actually had rifle teams. The only restrictions were that the gun had to be unloaded, locked in a case and we had to leave it with the principal who would lock it in the school vault and then return it to use at the end of the day when we were ready to go to practice. Those were very different times than what kids today are living in.

The interesting this was school shootings were rare back then. Most kids that owned guns and /or were on the rifle teams had respect for guns and used them for target shooting and practiced careful gun safety.

One kid brought a pocket knife to school to use in shop class because he was in carpentry and he needed to bring it to carve something for a project because he was very good at wood carving and the teacher was okay with it. The kid got suspended for 3 weeks and had to stay out after school for two hours for two days. The teacher even stood up for him to say it was a tool and not a weapon. Society is screwed up.

My grandfather was born and raised in Australia and he used to be a school principal in a country town school where about 110 kids went to school. He used to take a rifle to school in case any wildlife got aggressive towards the students which actually did happen at times and he ended up having to shoot hogs and kangaroos and the like every now and then. Imagine the uproar which something like this would cause even in the USA these days.

Really? I think if i would have brought a knife with me to school in for example the 4th grade i could of just said to my teacher "Yeah, i accidently brought my knife with me here, i was using it yesterday and forgot to take it out of my jacket so if you could just hold on to it until the end of the school time where i can take it with me home and put it away, you can like call my parents if you want to, i just dont want to be walking around with it here and getting into trouble" Then my teacher would probably just hold on to it and then give it to me and say something like "Yeah, yeah just do not do it again" and give it back to me at the end. I actually brought a cheap working knife for like cutting stuff that would kind of hurt a knife to kindergarten haha, one of the cool kids had brought one the day before and like started cutting a tree so i wanted to do it too, my kindergarten "teacher" took it off me and called my dad and he kind of thought it was pretty funny so he just went to the kindergarten and brought it with him home, and told me that it was a bad thing and i should not do it again. He still talks about it as a funny story at some occasions.

Being a creature of habit I would carry my knife on me during weekends and as a result accidentally brought it to school on occasion. I never got in trouble because I don't think anyone knew because I conceal them well. Honestly, I don't think I was the only one. But even in 2006-2010 it was not a big deal. Now days it's taboo. If I swing by town after hunting to get a soda with my fixed blade on my belt, some people will act really sweaty and nervous around me. It's like it's a sharpened piece of steel, not a nuclear bomb.

i remember seven years ago when i was in high school we'd keep our long guns in our truck so we could go hunting after school, and we'd even park in the school parking lots. only thing they would request we do was of course lock the vehicle, then leave our keys in the main office. today you can't even have a spent casing in plain sight or you're labled as a shooter.

When I was in grade school, all the boys carried pocket knives. The guys that didn't carry one were considered underprivileged, because how do you cut your meat at lunch time, sharpen your pencil, or play mumbly peg without a knife? The older boys (7th-8th graders) would often bring a shotgun to school and lean it up in the corner of the classroom. Nobody even paid attention. They hunted on the way to school and on the way home. Nobody even paid attention. Sometimes we would hear geese flying over, and the teacher would let the boys with guns run out and try to get one. Nobody was ever shot or cut, so nothing was wrong with it. Zero risk produces too many zeros in society.

I remember all the boys having knives in school. (and some of the girls) And if a kid got a new rifle for Christmas, more often than not, they'd bring it to school to show the teacher. And if a boy had a pickup truck in high school, they had a gun rack in the back window, with the gun hanging in it, in the parking lot. Most of the time, they'd leave the window down, and have no fear that their weapon would be gone when school let out. People were so much more honest back then.

I carry several tools at school
My SOG Fielder, Bradley Kimura III, Some weird gerber lockback...
A machete in my bag, along with a carpenters hammer and a 12 inch adjustable wrench.
The security pulled me aside and searched me one day, I put all of those on the table.
They confiscated the hammer and wrench, I kept all the bladed instruments and was never penalized for it.
This is how dumb school rules are.

Things have changed... I graduated in 1987 and things were different in Michigan back then. I carried a buck knife in a leather sheath on my belt from 1st grade all the way through elementary school. From that point on I had a different knife which I carried in my pocket every day until graduation. The teachers didn't mind as everyone considered it a tool and most boys my age carried one. Nobody ever said anything to me or anyone else for carrying one. Flash forward to my son in elementary school when we got a call and he was almost suspended for a butterknife my wife had put in his lunchbox by mistake. The world has changed... and not for the better in some regards. It's a shame really.

I remember in 4th grade I had an older friend who gave me this porno mag. Man, I was the coolest kid in class that week. Anyway, middle of the day I lose my wallet and freak out. I tell the teacher and she starts searching around for it. Long story short she goes into my bag and finds the mag. Man, talk about heart sinking. I remember she took me aside with mag in hand and said, "what if this was your mother?". Funnily enough, that was it. She didn't take it or punish me. I guess she was embarrassed too. That evening when my mum picked me up I confessed immediately. Not sure if it was guilt or expectation that I'd get busted anyway. I promised her I'd never do it again and threw it in a dumpster in front of her...Anyway, its funny how kids are so innocent and naive. Everything black/white.

It's so strange how the country is today as opposed how it was when I was a kid.
I carried a knife with me to school everyday from probably third grade on.
And when I was in seventh grade began carrying a large switchblade (five inch blade and spring broken so it didn't function as a switchblade any longer but I could flick it out in a second)
I knew lots of other kids who carried knives of various kinds and even the occasional switchblade, and no one ever thought anything about it and there was never any incidents with knives)

Another story, a kid brought an empty grenade shell to my school once and the school was evacuated and 5 or 6 cop cars showed up and he was detained or something. One thing to consider though is, in my area in Canada, we don't have security guards or anything its you go to school and leave, they didn't know that the grenade shell was empty or not so those precautions were taken.

One of my favorite stories for me about me bringing a knife was in 6th grade. So, my friend sold me one of his knives at the beginning of the day so I had to carry it for the rest of the day. And being the dumbass I was, I kept it in my pocket. Then, in history class, I dropped it on the floor and one of my friends picked it up and raised it over his head and said "WHAT IS THIS?" And I had to like grab it out of his hand as fast as I could before my teacher noticed what was happening. I wish I still had the knife, but I ended up throwing it somewhere in my backyard because I couldn't keep it a secret from my parents any longer

  • @SteadyRiot

I did the same thing with my Boy Scout outings... I'd use my backpack to pack my stuff in for the trip, and sometimes I'd forget to empty the pockets with my knife/knives in them.
Then in High School I got into the habit of putting all of my "pocket stuff" in the same spot so I wouldn't misplace it. Often times when I was in a hurry I'd grab my keys, wallet, pen, etc. and then clip my knife onto my pocket and walk to school. Sometimes I'd be there for two or three hours before I would notice because it was always there when I wasn't in school. Surprisingly I never got caught...
I think at this time I normally carried a CRKT Apache III or a Gerber Paraframe. I miss that Apache...

I live in Germany and I usually carry a grey Spyderco uk pk every day including school days even though my mom has always been a little concerned that my knife might get me into trouble. One day my 11th class biology teacher had trouble cutting something because the knife she had was pretty much completely dull ( you know how it is). So she just casually asked the class if someone had a knife so I handed her mine and she was really happy to actually get one. Feels good to know that you live in a place where people don't see normal, useful tools as dangerous purpose-made murder weapons

I really wish I were raised more like you. My mom thinks that if she just keeps me away from things like knives and shit, it will all be okay, so when my step father bought a pocket knife and taught me how to use a flint with it, I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I decided to find out where he put it after we were done playing with fire and took it the next morning to school. I thought it was so cool I just needed to show my friends (third grade btw) that I had a knife. At the morning recess, I went in the bathroom that was kind of a big open space at the urinals, and was just taking out the blade and putting it back in. A kid went in there and he's like "What's that?" and I tell him it's a pocket knife. He apparently gets scared and thinks I'm threatening him according to some other people later. (I do not actually believe that this is true) He tells a teacher and I hide it under my jacked on the playground. The kid yells to me as I go to the school office and tells me I forgot my jacket. I run over to him and I'm like "no no no no no no no no no." I know I'm fucking screwed at this point. I got suspended for 5 days. Now I think this only happened because of the way I was raised. If I were raised like you and was given knives by my parents and shit and had experience with them, I would not have thought that the knife was the coolest shit ever and I would not have even taken it to school in the first place.

I think I became the reason a lot of schools don't allow students to have backpacks now. I remember one day I was on the bus to my school when I felt something in my pocket. I pulled it out and it was a toy gun I had. And it looked real as fuck, I quickly stashed it away in my backpack and when I got to school we had to take our homework out of our bags and put it on her desk. I remember slowly moving the toy gun around and taking the paper from the bottom of my bag and bringing it to her desk. Then, when it was lunch time I had forgotten about it again and grabbed my linchbox out of it and the gun fell out and people screamed and I was expelled but not arrested because it was a toy and i didn't know I had brought it.

Hell, in the 70s and 80s I grew up in a small town. Almost every male had at least a Buck 110 lockblade on their belt in school. No one batted an eye. But for some reason, the school decided to ban chain belts. The reasoning was that they could be used as weapons. The funny thing was that I’ve never seen anyone use one as a weapon. On top of that, no one used their knives in a fight either. But in the end the belts were banned and we all still carried our knives.

Hey Jeff, I have been watching your videos for years and I love watching your story time videos. I want to share with you my story of bring a knife to school. I hope you enjoy it like I do
Back when I was in 7th grade I was in the army cadets. It was Monday morning and I was just coming back from a camping trip. On this camping trip I took my Gerber LMF with me and used it a lot on this trip. So Monday morning came and I was taking my coat off and getting ready to go into class. I took my binder out of my bag and bring the binder with me and lay it on my desk. Now my school bag I took with me camping because at this time I didn’t have another bag. So I’m in class with my binder on my desk. I open my binder to take out my homework. Every morning in class we went over homework first. So I open my binder to grab my homework and boom, right in the middle of my binder was my Gerber LMF not in its stealth because I forgot to put it back in. my heart drops, I quickly close my binder and look around. I am sitting in a middle of a packed class with my teacher right up front. Lucky me none saw a thing. I quickly close my binder and run back to my bag. I throw the knife back in my bag and run back into the class
The rest of the day I sat there worried about getting in trouble. Lucky me I was never caught with my knife. I wanted to share this story with you because it close to your story. I hope you enjoyed the story, and I can’t wait to see more of you videos. Keep up the great work.

To go around the rules about weapons, my school EDC during high school was basically prison rules. Anything that's normally allowed in a school can be used outside their intended purposes and unless you are caught using them maliciously, you can't get in trouble for them. I carried a few exacto knives. Long metal rulers in my back pack

this is a great vlog, i just can't explain my feelings towards your experiences, it brings me back to my very similar past, i have a couple of knife experiences myself, once, in third grade, i had went to a boy scout meet myself with my uncle over the weekend, and i had been given this tiny little keychain pocket knife, i put it in my pocket that day and forgot it was in that pair of pants, i got up for school the following monday and i still forgot it was in the pants, i hadn't done anything that made those pants unwearable, so i just put them on and went to school, mind you this knifes blade was less than an inch long and it was bout an 1/8th of an inch thick, sop i couldn't feel it in my pocket, it came all the way to recess until i noticed that i had the knife on me. i had the same feel of panic and stomach sickness you described, but for some reason it seemed worse, maybe because i was on a 504/IEP education program, so i was like a target for wrongdoing. i didn't think of having the knife initially as a huge deal and i thought it would be a cool thing to show my friend, the second he saw it, he went running to the supervisor for recess, i ended up being punished with a week of out of school suspension.
another time in my freshman year of technical high school, i was in the 2-day introduction to electrical and the shop teacher saw a knife clip on my pocket and he flipped out on me, he said "you can't have that here it's a huge security issue! give me that knife right now!" i originally didn't think much of having a knife in the shop in the first place, it was just one of those really cheap ozark trail brand 1$ walmart knifes, on top of that, i saw other kids in the shop there with knives on them and in their toolboxes, i know i was wrong there because since i see other people doing it doesn't mean i should do it.. long story short i told the principle that she could keep the knife or throw it away, i didn't care what happened to it, as i had another one at home, she insisted she call my mother to come pick me up and get the knife but i still insisted she should just call my mother and tell her about what happened, let me go home on the school bus and just throw the knife away. the principal saw this as a good enough deal and cut it with me, the only stipulation was that i serve 1st period the next day in In-School suspension. i was ok with it but i still am a little aggravated about it today... --btw i'm 17 and finishing my senior year now.
