    The concern about flame retardants in electrical cords, including those in appliances like air fryers, stems from the use of substances such as brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs), which may contain heavy metals or release harmful compounds.
    Possible Substances and Risks:
    1. Brominated Flame Retardants (BFRs):
    • Chemicals such as polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are used in plastic casings and cords to prevent fires.
    • BFRs are known to release toxic bromine-containing compounds over time, which may accumulate in the body and cause neurological and endocrine issues.
    2. Organophosphate Flame Retardants (OPFRs):
    • OPFRs like triphenyl phosphate (TPP) or tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) are sometimes used to replace PBDEs, but they also pose health risks, including toxicity to the liver and nervous system.
    3. Lead and Heavy Metals in Components:
    • Some flame retardants used in electrical cords contain lead, cadmium, or other heavy metals, especially in older or poorly regulated products. Lead exposure can cause neurological damage, while cadmium can affect kidney function and bone health.
    4. Antimony-based Flame Retardants:
    • Antimony trioxide is often combined with brominated flame retardants to increase effectiveness. It is classified as a potential carcinogen, and chronic exposure can lead to respiratory and gastrointestinal issues.
    If you suspect that a specific air fryer or electrical cord might pose a health risk, consider contacting the manufacturer to request safety information or certifications (like RoHS compliance, which limits heavy metals). Additionally, to minimize risk, look for appliances with third-party safety certifications like UL, ETL, or CE that adhere to stricter environmental and health standards.

    I’ve been hearing about aluminum being linked to Alzheimer’s for about 30 years now, but the more I think about it, the more I question it. I recently bought a small Italian espresso maker for the stovetop, the famed "moka pot" by Bialetti. I got a bit nervous when I found out it was made of aluminum, but when I started thinking about it, every household in Italy has a moka pot, that thing has been around since at least the 40s... Does anybody know if Italians have an increased incidence of Alzheimer’s in its population? Italians are amongst the healthiest and longest living people in Europe by the way, did you know that? Speaking of aluminum cooking wares, I don’t see Asian countries, where most of these aluminum pots and pans are made, using stainless steel instead. Sure they have iron woks, but everything else is aluminum I don’t even have to think about, I’m sure. Are these people dealing with an increase in Alzheimer’s cases? Most of these places are Blue Zone countries. Why would industry be using aluminum instead of stainless if aluminum is poison? Have you looked into the possibility of radioactivity in earthenware? Seems to me that would be a more serious problem.

      I believe the aluminum link was debunked, Teflon though, can kill birds from the air fumes, and if a canary can survive a coal mine and not a Teflon pan heating up, you need a different pan. I use an instant pot with the stainless insert, use a convection toaster oven which are way better made than air fryers. Cast iron from my great grandma, who still drives and lives alone. Eat real food, something your great great great grandma would recognize and cook if you brought it to her. Eat meat, veg, and if you have to because you can't afford it and you're losing weight, some grains. Avoid sugar besides rare special occasions, and any weird stuff. I've heard that the aluminium oxide layer on the inside of the moka pot will prevent the aluminium from migrating into the coffee. But if you cook something that is acidic or salty in Aluminium dishes or wrapped in aluminium foil, then you will have a fair amount of it in your food.

    Yeah that's the exact wall I kept hitting - even if its coated in ceramic its alluminium underneath.. so if you scrub it in the wash it will probably wear off and start circulating around.. only things I've managed to find are like glass or plain stainless steel tiny ovens. At this point, my concern is the smaller brands can they guarantee low electrical fire risks etc... tbh I think I will risk it and never leave it unattended

    It is good that you are conscious of the dangers but details are important here. Aluminum is bad indeed but totally not a problem if it's coated in ceramic. The reason why they make the rest of aluminum is because of the heat conductivity and light weight and low cost.

    • @HobbesnCalvin124
      @HobbesnCalvin124 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you. I’ve been trying to research this. Does anything leach out if the aluminum is coated in ceramic? 🤷‍♀️ I really don’t like the idea of a hot glass bowl sitting on plastic. Seems the fumes would be dangerous.

    • @netional5154
      @netional5154 7 месяцев назад

      @@HobbesnCalvin124 if the ceramic layer has been scratched to such an extent that the aluminum becomes visible, then aluminum can leach out. If the food only touches the ceramic layer, how could aluminum leach out? It would have to cross the ceramic layer, impossible.

    Your funny!I have never had a air fryer before because of the toxic crap..I just found The Wonder oven that i think might work for us...We needed one that would air fry bake and make toast....This does all that...What impresses me about it is the inside looks to be all stainless steel instead of aluminum mixed in steel and the air fry basket is stainless steel.The pan tho ARE aluminum and coated with ceramic...Ceramic is safe as far as i know but dont like that there is aluminum under that..Will probably use glass and stainless steel sheet pan to cook in it..Get the Oven on the 4th....Its pricey and small but worth it if no toxins coming in contact with my food..Our gov is so messed up to allow these cooking devices with all the toxins in them.Hope that changes someday...Ur right most people could care less about all this...Blows my mind and all the people who wrap food in Aluminum foil to cook with??!Crazy!They think were the crazy ones..lol.

    Thank Vegetable Police for this Informative video about Salton Glass Air Fryer. If it's possible, could you please make a video review about Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro? Both the fryer and the basket are made of stainless steel. Reviewers on RUclips praised it for having much less toxiticiy and making quality food. It also works as an oven and it's durable. Its 2 disadvantages are the price tag of US $400 and it takes a lot of counter space. You get what you paid for. Thanks again.

    I love ya for air frying a grass fed steak. Corn and soy fed meat causes metabolic syndrome and worse over time. Not only because of what it does to goo up ones filters, the GMO part means it has traces of RoundUp/glyphosate in the final product. The top 5 farm bill commodities the USDA subsidizes to FOOD INC are all GMO/RoundUp Ready crops. Sugar (beet/cane), wheat, corn, rice and soybean make up 60% of the western diet. I started limiting them two years ago when Wuhan Fauci disease was released. I friggin knew not to take the koolaid jab so I binged on nutritional lectures.
    Is there an air fryer you like besides the Salton? Or an updated one?

    The glass situation makes me a little nervous. Did you look into countertop convection ovens (or toaster ovens) which I believe are the same thing as an air fryer, except they have a door instead of a basket. Those things come in all-metal, I think.
    I am a loser instant-pot air fryer person and I was thinking getting another one, that’s how much I love it. But because of you, I will probably stick to just one or transition to a toast oven apparatus.
