    Is it D.O.T. street legal???

Street legal varies by state to state however most require headlights, tail lights, turn signals, backup lights (which are not found as standard on most military vehicles and MUST be added) windshield and windshield wipers, seat belts for all passenger locations. Custom lighting above the windshield may be illegal in some states or must be covered with a shroud when on road to comply with local state laws. Even with all of the above mentioned requirements some states will refuse to grant an on road title which will force the owner to register the vehicle in a state that allows the additions. Once you have an on road title for a state that is friendly to these conversions one can usually pass inspection and have an on road title issued in their state. Oh and another issue with many states, the VIN number, military vehicles do not bear a standard civilian VIN number, some "custom manufacturers" can issue a street legal VIN number. Some states will permit the builder to create their own VIN number following the states rules on "home built" vehicles.
