Stainless may help if its rivited in the right places and balanced after, but if you want solid, get a Asko washer, the ones I have opened up have welded stainless steel spiders, not aluminum!
@Photonicinduction haha yeah, I figured out how you did it, although with a good drive plate I don't see why it shouldn't work at full power ( I don't have a variac yet) the next one I will be more careful with, no big flywheels yet :D
@Begbucks only time I pull appliance motors is when I want to use them for somthing, so a wrecker to rip them out was never needed. but it would make it a more cost-effective way of recycling them.
@readyset yeah, most people who own there wouldn't be inclined to DIY :(, they jsut see the repair estimate from the service guy and opt to buy a new one.
not in Aus, Lg is one of their main brands, so they get alot of LG washers, are cheap bottom of the line washers, where LG here in the UK will only offer us now with ones with the direct drive.
the drum brackets or 'spider's' as we call them in the UK, offten also fail due to limescale, however most don't fail untill they are at leat 15 years old
So far have ours for 7 years with zero problems. Today thought draining pump had failed but just 2 Aussi 50c coins stuck in drain tube. Also pulled out $1, 2 x 20c coins as well. Amazed that the 50c coin can actually end up down in the drain tube.
FYI, those motors are what's called "universal motors", They can be run on AC or DC since they're a brush type motor with an armature and stator winding to develop the magnetic field. They're not terribly efficient, but, since they are easy to configure, they're a cheap way to cover a large field of applications. Vacuums and a lot of kitchen appliances use these too, and hand drills. Oh well, it's still fun to watch a machine beat itself to death with a few well guided nudges!
@ilovemiele1 lol, top loaders not washing well?, you need lots of water to wash well!, front loaders are pitiful in the amount of water they use. and no, I don't care about how big my water bill is.
From my own experience I refuse to own a hotpoint washing machine. Mum currently has one and she hates it, it has been repaired so many times that the only original parts are the motor and control panel. Everything including the chasis has been replaced because hotpoint never replace a machine unless the parts become obsolete.
@ilovemiele1 advanced technology is going to be the downfall of these applainces because there are so many things to go faulty. a bad inverter drive can see a machine scrapped because its too expensive to replace (at least here it is) we do get good quality machines like Asko or Miele, but they cost a hell of a lot of money. I'll stick to a upright with basic mechanical switch, water pump, 2 valves and a motor, all of which are cheap and easy to replace.
Makes you wonder if this sort of stuff is just engineered failure so you keep buying a new washing machine every few years. Why else would you make a crucial part out of a weaker material? Loving the playlist feature btw!
@Aussie50 Aussie, you know so much about washing machines. You taught me so much. I was very intrigued. Your Australian accent also made listening so much better. Thank you for your videos I will be watching more.
I wonder if the newer LG direct drive washers still have that weak bracket you mentioned. Just bought one new last year 2014 when our old top load decided to come apart in the house. Have you messed with the direct drives yet? Looks like a giant stepper motor to me.
@Aussie50 yes i know what you mean, and yes it is just there and america and places like that. i feel bad for you too because i like to think everyone gets the opportunity of well bult, easy to fix things like we do in the uk, but unfortunately not. the problem with the ones you get shipped over is, they are terrible expensive and hard to repair, well its quite the opposite over here. and although miele are very dear they rarely last less that 15-20 years, left alone and untampered with. :)
@Aussie50 better than the crappy toploaders, which waste water, dont wash as well, and look hideous. think some people are really far behind in technology. front loaders ftw

tttttttt tttttttt tttttttt tttttttt

@sprogdiklis yeah, 2Hp on a VFD would be interesting.
I'll see if this drum survives its own motor power first.
@naterade21 yeah it really sucks, they would be okay if they made the drums properly!
RUclips sayd The washer from hell is age restricted. What does fire have to do with having to be 18
@Begbucks only time I pull appliance motors is when I want to use them for somthing, so a wrecker to rip them out was never needed.
but it would make it a more cost-effective way of recycling them.
@revhed89 yeah it might have been a bit much :D
@towrecker It'll be 'Ringing Hells Bells' by the time I am done with it :D
AC/DC all the way!. I wish I could get rights to use it in my videos!
Wow I'm dying to see the autopsy of the big copier...
@readyset yeah, most people who own there wouldn't be inclined to DIY :(, they jsut see the repair estimate from the service guy and opt to buy a new one.

It’s really a shame that manufacturers use alloy like aluminium die cast drive spider and even today they are probably even worse than ones back then
@AcaAllertor127 bout 5kg. but i had already destroyed the drive plate with the 10kg flywheel
the drum brackets or 'spider's' as we call them in the UK, offten also fail due to limescale, however most don't fail untill they are at leat 15 years old
@msylvain59 yeah I'm working up to that very soon!
Ok👍👍👍 its cool i love it

I borrow them from the scrap yard and bring them back in pieces :D
ac/dc .....that washer is on the HIGHWAY TO HELL , so yup ac/dc fits in more than one way :)

Have one of these and its been going for years, wash is a tad long tho.
drive plates go bad, thats why they're getting scrapped
@TheMathew123456789 then find another channel, I am a teacher first, wrecker last.
LOL that was mad with the drive plate in there! :P Good video mate.
LMAO at the flywheel.
If Intellowasher Added DD [Direct Drive] Why Intellowasher Going Unbalanced Of Heavy Loads Like WD-1274FHB Was Like That.
I get an ad for appliance repairs on this video, haha. (RIP)

3:43 that is the washing machine that we use! It's such a good one!
Those bearings in the washer are probably worn out
@Aussie50 Aussie, you know so much about washing machines. You taught me so much. I was very intrigued. Your Australian accent also made listening so much better. Thank you for your videos I will be watching more.
LG just sucks at any device or machine! I have a dvd writer and a dvd reader of LG on my old computer and they never have been working properly.
I wonder if the newer LG direct drive washers still have that weak bracket you mentioned. Just bought one new last year 2014 when our old top load decided to come apart in the house. Have you messed with the direct drives yet? Looks like a giant stepper motor to me.
Yes they are made with that same shitty alloy
@Aussie50 yes i know what you mean, and yes it is just there and america and places like that. i feel bad for you too because i like to think everyone gets the opportunity of well bult, easy to fix things like we do in the uk, but unfortunately not. the problem with the ones you get shipped over is, they are terrible expensive and hard to repair, well its quite the opposite over here. and although miele are very dear they rarely last less that 15-20 years, left alone and untampered with. :)
cool. cant wait till D day.lol
I would rather have a reliable washing machine with stainless steel parts than one that's going to fail when I need it.
@Aussie50 better than the crappy toploaders, which waste water, dont wash as well, and look hideous. think some people are really far behind in technology. front loaders ftw
How interesting and fun to watch
