I second this and might even encourage sloping the board a little so it's a little egg ramp into the duck house so if a duck lays the egg, right up against the top of the board and wall, it will gently roll back into the duck house as soon as mama duck moves away. You could even attach it to the door rather than the coop, so when you release the quaken, the quaken won't trip on the egg ramp/ bevel.
Look at Abby learning. She seems to be adjusting well, in spite of the unfortunate shock. Thank you so much for sharing. I am planning my own homestead and your videos and those of others have really helped my planning process.
One of my "jobs" on the farm as a kid was the opening and closing of gates for dad to bring the tractors through. I don't know how many times I got bit by the electric fence attached to that gate, probably hundreds if not thousands. :)
When I was really young, I was playing in a ditch and got my shoes and socks wet. I put them on the electroc fence to dry 😂 and yes, I had gotten shocked before so I should have known what was gonna happen.
Poor Abby, once bitten, twice shy. A lesson she was going to have to learn eventually. In regards to the chicken eggs, while a great idea, wouldn't you have to increase the amount of hens significantly to make a worthwhile profit?
Sadly as far as the fences go it often only turns out to be the best way for them to learn, but having the voltage as low as possible because they'll never forget. Glad she's okay though, looking forward to how things turn out this summer :) All the best from Bournemouth, UK
Abby, you have shown me why leashes are made of non-conductive materials. On the duck eggs: a little board by the door could help, or you could go inside and collect duck eggs before releasing the quaken.
The thing i love the most is getting my lunch and watching your videos. They just give such a wholesome vibe, thanks for posting them Morgan! Btw RESPECT AND FEAR THE FENCEEE
Spring on a farm is just so charming and fantastic. Such a great feeling with new budding life, the sweet baby sounds in the air. The fresh air and blooming flowers. Your farm is so wonderful, my heart is melting into a puddle watching this.
Suggestion. Put a small wedge shaped piece of wood against the duck door to make the eggs roll in instead of out. It would only need to be 1/2" or so thick and an inch or so wide.
It is wonderful to see the highland back in the pasture again the little calves are so cute and fluffy. Glad to see the little duck with leg problems is doing better. Lovely video. 💖
I’ve never really been a outdoor type guy but watching your vids and your gift of storytelling is really wanting me to get into owning a few chickens or ducks in the future
Morgan, your videos keep getting better and better. I love this one and I'm happy to see everything and everyone is doing so well at GSF. I felt so sorry for Abby Girl when she was shocked by the cattle fencing and yelped in pain from it. I'm glad she's alright, and hopefully, learned a lesson from the experience. Take care!
Poor Abby, what a way to learn about the electric fence with her wet nose, it made me feel sick hearing her cry out like that and poor Morgan knowing how much he loves all his animals it must have hurt him to see Abby like that. Take care Abby girl you have so much still to learn but follow Toby and you'll be fine. Love to all at Gold Shaw Farm xxxxxxxx
I jumped & winced hard seeing that. Poor baby. I have no real clue how that would feel other than the few times I've positioned my tens unit wrong & got that shock.
When I was a kid, I got my feet wet playing in a ditch and put them on electric fence to "dry". I had gotten shocked before and should have known better 😂 wet socks did the trick though.
It is heartwarming to see your spring pasture with red and black calves gamboling against the carpet of green. It’s especially cute to see ethe two guard dogs watching the chickens thru the fence. I love this video. Things are really paying off for you Morgan. Well done!
Awe....my heart just broke.....poor Abby. I was so excited to see the cattle out in the pasture....but poor Abby yelped helter skelterr. I know she has to learn....but whoa. I still love you Morgan but that was hard to hear and see.....I know that you were upset too.....but she'll realize.
I have to say, I absolutely adore you, your family and your farm. I discovered you recently, in my 3-rd university year and binge-watching your videos is so relaxing (especially now when I'm studying for my finals). Your enthusiasm is contagious, you give your animal friends such creative names, your family is amazing and I like so much the way you don't fear showing emotions.
I laughed too hard when Abby got shocked. I've been there more than once. We actually had to put up an electric fence to keep our dogs inside of a chain link fence that had some places we were concerned they might escape. We haven't had to plug it back in for years.
Awesome to see the cows out. Seeing Toby play with the calves is super cute. Didn't know in the birth of the newest that it was darker as well, awesome to see the 50/50 split in color there.
Great Spring video. All the animals seem so happy to be out of the barns/coops. Poor Abs had a tough learning experience and we all felt for her. Hopefully she is a quick learner. Can't get enough of those sweet baby calves. Hugs from N.C..❤️
Great slow-mo in today’s video ~ the ducks coming out and Toby enjoying his duck egg was terrific! Ty Morgan. I’ve been following your channel since CoVid shut everything down and I first checked out YT.😊
Over the years, I have been watching your videos, and it has been inspiring to see that growth. It's been some time. I just can't wait to see that next video that's produced. Don't know why it's a challenge for me to make it to view a "live stream." You and your wife have held my fascination since the beginning. I am amazed at the progress of the "farm." Your animals are a joy. The dogs and cats have their own story, and I am waiting with bated breath for that book to come. Your stories and what you do are the icing on the cake.
It always amazes me how fast time flies and how fast your dogs grow. I still remember Toby being a puppy and now he is a full adult and a superstar guard dog, I think I have never seen a dog that was so perfect for his job as Toby. And now even Abby got so big, even though she is still a puppy the difference is so huge compared to when she arrived.
The two dogs are doing so well because they have a smart and caring owner and trainer in their master. Toby and Abbey get the attention and training they need to succeed.
Morning...glad to see the cattle out enjoying the great outdoors! Boy, your fields look super green and healthy. Are you going to change their winter housing for this coming winter?
Letting the cows out when the grass isn't tall and luscious is actually good. They don't get the scours as bad, since they also are eating hay. Love watching calves play. Especially when running around with tails twisted over their backs.
I totally love goat cheese and goat yogurt. Whenever there is a choice between cow milk cheese and goats milk cheese, I go for goat milk cheese - whether it is cheddar, Edam, Gouda … whatever. There must be a movement because where I get cheese, the options for goat milk cheese are increasing all the time. Good luck with your enterprise in the beautiful State of Vermont. From what I can see in Morgans videos it is a beautiful state, a paradise.
you might think about hiring a trainer to bring out Abbey's herding instincts. Once she learns how to move cattle she will be able to do so better than you could ever hope to. She is never going to be Toby, but she has other qualities if you are willing to educate her how to use them.
Wrong. If u want a dog herding, better get a dog specialized in it. Many dogs are not good 'jack of all trades'. Some traits can conflict with each other, and better not motivate them together.

Hi Morgan and Alison, Pablo, Ginny, Toby, Litl Barn Cat, Molly, Abby and all the cattle, having gone around the farm doing chores, I didn't see the Weird Silkie Chickens.
Poor sweet Abby, she got a buzzcock, she's going to remember it. Of course the cows are comfortable with cool popa Toby, he is a general after all.
Yep, she won't be doing that again! No real harm done and she'll have learnt the lesson sure enough
duck egg issue is EXTREMELY easy, just nail a board across the bottom of the door (inside), this will prevent the eggs rolling down the ramp.
