As the parent of a student with an IEP who has a brilliant mind but who struggled through college due to executive function challenges, this makes me smile!
If you don’t mind me asking, what are executive function challenges? Sometimes the brilliance in kids is harder to access and recognize due to how kids are taught. But it’s there, despite a lower GPA.

Personally for me as a teen with a learning disability it means I struggle with actually starting the task that I need to do, planning and generally structuring my thoughts. I had to learn how to do things through a different process to my peers because I just could not follow the way they were doing it and understand it like they did. I thank you for recognizing that we aren't just dumb, it really means a lot because growing up I thought I was just born stupid but it turns out that the education system generally can't be an effective one size fits all approach :') Even writing this paragraph is testament to how great an alternative approach to my education has been. As you said, it is harder to access the talents we may have, largely because the challenges we face in corresponding what we want to do with real action taken

That’s why I’m a strong supporter of having options, private school, homeschool, tutors, online programs, etc. Every child has something they are really good at. Like Einstien said, “if you judge a fish by it’s ability to climb a tree you will always be blind to it’s own gifts and talents.” (Paraphrasing here, but that’s the message. ). You have something wonderful to share with the world. Always remember that. :)
He’s been on all of my Special Olympics teams since the beginning of my Special Olympics career. He’s been on The Special K’s his whole life, and it’s amazing to watch him react to his acceptance letter from a University he’s told me he always wanted to go to. Steven is the man!!

I heard her, and yes- she loves him dearly. My son is blessed with similar teachers here. They've all in one way or another this year cried because my son is graduating and they're going to miss him. It would be easy to find him through Special Olympics, he has been a contender for years. His name is already revealed, And I am certain social media would provide answers. If you can and are willing to provide monetary assistance then there is a way to get it to him

Of course, finding/looking for a minor can get tricky, folks should be protective but.. If it happens- & you can send a 'gift', that would be wonderful, if you don't you tried. There's always a way you can donate to causes that touches your heart, your generosity would be appreciated in other ways to many other deserving folks/kids/ animals. ❤
