I'm doing it in reverse, I imagine myself 10 years younger, and I try to transfer my current knowledge to that younger self, like if I remember something important from the future but in the past (hard to explain), maybe I will feel something in the past and my old self would spawn a new universe with better me in it by acting differently... At least that different me will be happy because of my help.

There are children that excel at something and keep at it whle still young(either at own volition or while being bossed around by their parents). They are usually called child prodigies, wunderkind, indigo etc. Thing is just when they become adults they just blend in and realise that they aren't competing against children anymore and nobody's gonna give them cookie points for doing what's normally expected from a self-driven motivated adult. Some become successful in their field but others lose interest, develop depression etc. Lifelong learning is what matters.

Whenever I feel like I'm too late in life, I remember that even if you give me 50 years to do an essay, I would leave it to the last day to finish. Therefore even if I had more time by going back to my childhood, I wouldn't be productive with it. It is not more time that I need, it the exposure and motivation to change my mindset to get things done.
Great video, I resonate with your videos a lot. I sit in my room as a 29 year old adult and think hard about the message you are trying to convey each time you release a video.

If growing up with overly controlling parents has taught me one thing it's that you have to give your kid free time to do whatever they want otherwise they'll end up seeing the things you take away from them as luxury and will never try to learn things just for the hell of it. 4 years of being relatively away from my parents in uni without their rules and restrictions proved that I CAN get bored from playing games all the time and try to learn new things just because they look interesting. However now that I have way less free time it's incredibly hard to dedicate time to something that isn't a responsibility. I want to say if I could go back in time I'd try to spend more free time on learning things that just look interesting but I know even then my parents wouldn't take me seriously and I wouldn't have any chance at getting better at things I like.

@@zUJ7EjVD honestly I can't really say how easy or hard Mushoku Tensei is compared to other novels because it is the first Japanese Light Novel I'm reading.
I can just say that Visual Novels are definetly easier and that Mushoku Tensei has much monologue of the protagonist figuring things out about magic and the world which can be quite tiring sometimes.
But as with everything in Japanese the more you read the easier it gets because much of the vocab is used over and over again by the author.
I would say rather than how hard or easy it is compared to other novels it's more important to just read something that you really have an interest in because that is what will keep you at it even if it is hard sometimes.

As for Mushoku Tensei, like I said there are the monologues and I think the protagonist is horrible somtimes. He's is the definition of a pervy asshole haha
But other than that it's definetly enjoyable, compared to other Isekai
I just think Overlord is better but probably harder language wise at the same time.
      Rikaichan is really handy 👍
I'm using yomichan tho which basically does the same
As for reading I'm using my kindle, where I can also just tap on a word to look it up in a custom dictionary.
There are many other really handy tools, check out Textractor if you want to read a Visual Novel.

But even then there are ways to refresh plasticity in adults by doing some breathing excercises (maybe missrembering), before a cognitive demanding task. I think the topic was brought up in Andrew Huberman's podcast, here on youtube.

I know you'll likely never see this comment as the video is a year old, but I wanted to say thank you.
I found your channel via your Japanese videos. I'm someone who after numerous years of trying found it very difficult to retain Japanese, and I have often found it difficult to retain any habit or hobby I've started. I've tried my hand at writing, music, drawing, running, programming, and more and most of the time I've just stopped after a while due to a lack of motivation or discipline.
I'm rambling but my point is, your videos and this one in particular have helped comfort me and made me feel that things are actually going to be okay. I am married, I have a kid, I work a job which is not perfect but is certainly good. Sometimes I get caught up in the mindset of "if only I could go back and redo everything, I'd be happy"
But I realise that I'd ultimately just find a new way to be unhappy. Happiness isn't something you "get", it's something you already have, we just often choose to ignore it and focus on all the bad things day to day.
I wish you all the best, anyone who is reading this. Life is a crazy weird time and we are just sort of along for the ride, but let's take a moment to breathe and enjoy that journey.

My entire month gets ruined whenever i became aware of one of those child prodigies who has done more things than ive done or ever dared do at age 14. This might sound very melodramatic, but to me it feels like a life and death situations. Even when i do put effort into the things i care about and to improve, everything moves slower than expected.
It mostly sucks so much because i dont know what lesson to come out of it besides me doing everything wrong somehow. I still have plenty of free time, possibly just as much as i did as a child, but everything is so cognitively weighed for no reason. I wished i could just do something i like without so much worry of applicability or how worth it is. I wished i could just sit in bed or go to sleep for once without my mind spiraling about everything i should be doing or shouldnt be doing or why everything is actually a bad idea.
Something i hate even more now is the fact that my motivation to improve in this regard is primarily dictated by comparison with others and being more productive.

    • @Livakivi
      @Livakivi  6 месяцев назад +1

In terms of comparing yourself to others, its not always a bad thing, but it should rather be something that can be used as a reference rather than something to judge yourself by.
It's difficult to separate the two, but at the end of the day, only you have your own set of circumstances that no one else has, and so does everyone else, you are the only one who can make do with whatever circumstances you have at this very current moment, regardless of what "could have been" if you started earlier or already had those things at the age of 14 or earlier.
Anyhow, its better to just not think about it, avoid analysis by paralysis and "just do it", no matter how "behind" you might be, which is also kind of a very subjective and perspective based concept, which in reality is intangible and irrelevant most of the time.

Not that it was perfect but I think a normal childhood spent with a balance on school, sports/music, and play is optimal for most kids. If anything, I'd probably just prevent myself from doing all the cringey stuff we normally did as kids, pick and focus on a single sport, exercise more, and probably just put in a tad more effort in music, aside from the obvious choices of investing in bitcoin and moving to new zealand prior to this pandemic.

I would never even think about getting into gaming again, no matter pro or not. this is a huge time wasting thing, and even if it makes you happy in the moment it doesn't mean you should game 6-8 hours a day at age 16, drugs also make you happy in a moment. Gaming skills will never transfer to your real life and therefore it's literally wasted time, I was surprised you even mentioned games at all. Studying feels boring because the method they use in school is without application, you learn math just for the sake of learning it, or solve problems that you have no interest in, if for example you had to learn something because you wanted to make that thing, but without math or programming it was impossible this gives you actual motivation to learn it, and even if it feels boring you still want to push it until you get somewhere or just fulfill your curiosity for that thing. If I could get back in time I would definitely not play games so much, but the other important thing is that I would leave my parents house at age 18 or 19, even if I had no skills or a job, we here don't have this culture of 'kicking out' kids at 18, it produces hikikimori and I'm one of them. The sad thing is that I don't feel like I'm mentally ill or very shy, I'm not, but decade old neural pathways cannot be easily erased even if you really want it to.

Basically, sometimes you have to put it some effort and grind towards something before it becomes enjoyable.
Not finding enjoyment in anything can also be a depression symptom as well, so if the issue runs deeper, should probably look into that.

I did a little bit of the Dogen's Pitch Accent course, and doing an anki deck I found from there. I don't focus on pitch accent too much right now, I'm much more focusing on comprehension than output.

Not to mention, until you get access to the internet all your entertainment and study materials would be intended for little kids...

Couldn't agree more. Most people who learn a new language as an "adult" (I mean not as their mother tongue nor at school) wish that they starter earlier.
But it's just wrong to think you learn languages easier as a child. How could one, for example, grind the 2k/6k deck if they didn't even know 6 000 words in their mother tongue ?
There definitely is something wrong with how overrated children are at language learning. They don't do it because they're good at it, but mostly because they have to.

Your content is very high quality, and i think you don't get the views you deserve. And I think this might partly be because you name your videos poorly in the "SEO" sense.
Just something to think about, as I want to see you succeed, and for your content to reach more people.
You have a pretty well-defined target audience, which is the self-improvement-focused gamers basically. So do some research, notice what you yourself are inclined to press on in your recommendations, and start implementing the same patterns for your own videos.
