Just for the record - that isn't Gary, it's Ted May. Central Announcer 1985-2002. I know the guy personally :)

Used to love watching this when I was younger, thinking the last light that was on in the village was your own light, cos everyone else had gone to bed! 😆

I wonder if anybody knows when Central stopped using the ‘sleepy village’ closedown screen...it was great

Gary Terzza announcing in his Central days. He is now one of channel 4's long term announcers since joining in 1991

Some ILR stations on the slide (which indeed looks quite old for 1986) were gone by then - Gwent Broadcasting ("GB") and CBC had merged to become Red Dragon, ditto Radio West and Wiltshire Radio to become GWR (and from there ...) By the end of Central closedowns the following year, they were also plugging GWR which overlapped with their region in Swindon.
Marvellous stuff, of course. I've always loved that closedown sequence - though a far cry from the Bull Ring ...

No, just came on when a programme was not from any ITV company - ie films. Each region did similar things

Anyone else used to switch on teletext at the same page, off and on again just to see if it was the same? 😂

He's just given out a spoiler for V. No need to watch it now.
