This is so insanely fast ! Their first 50m split time was faster than the Olympic mens 50m sprint and yet they carried on at this sort of pace for 400m !

I tried a monofin a week or so ago for the first and last time. These woman make it look easy. You need a strong dolphin kick. And endurance and lots of training. A snorkel would have helped me, as it is much easier to swim without having to come up for air.

How do they get air when the snorkel goes under water cause when my snorkel goes under water I breath water and choke???

You have to blow the water out after your turn

It's funny how you can't really cheer the competitors on since they are submerged for the whole race compared to a normal swimming competition.

This began as a competition for Soviet naval frogmen and spread from the military to the public in the USSR. About 30 years ago at Stanford U. Pablo Morales let me try his monofin. It hasn't caught on in the USA but I think it's cool. The American analogy is underwater hockey. It started with navy frogmen stationed on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay during WW2. It is still played there and is a great game for people who don't need to breathe.
