All these restomods are basically wiping out the stock of untouched 964s. At some not-that-distant point, an OEM 964 may end up more valuable than the modified cars.
The profit margins on these restomods must be beyond ridiculous. Yes they are beautifully made, detailed and have some reasonable engineering input. However I believe the curve of diminishing return to value would be beyond vertical 😂. I mean for considerably far less money one could get a GT Porsche, with amazing performance and enough change to buy the lady a few more Tiffany diamonds rings 🤗
@SparklingWalrus 993 has the best engine and suspension. No doubt about it. But the 993 GT2 Wing is Fugly! Even the 993tt rear wing looks a little like melted cheese pizza 🍕 😋
Give me an RPM Technik CSR for £100k or a Ruf if the budget would extend that far. Rennsport are wonderful, but a different proposition from the Singer came up to our local meet up in Cumbria in September, it was simply jewel like.
Yeah, seems odd Ruf doesn’t get the respect they’ve earned. The new SCR is a techno marvel and brilliant car. Maybe they are just for folks “in the know”.
A member of my local PCA chapter here in the States just took delivery of his Singer after a four year wait. (1.2m US$) Jewel like is a very accurate description. I’ve had the opportunity to see it twice now at two gatherings this month and it is truly a work of automotive art. You can pour over it again and again and discover one new subtle nuance after another if you know 911’s well enough.
Thinking about it, you are 100% right. That's the thing with 911s, they can be so very many things which is what makes them interesting. I think if there is an answer to all this it involves a very big garage!@@guywarren5555
A retromod is a backdated car, which turning a 964 into a Carrera 2.7RS lookalike is. A restomod on the other hand means the restoration of a tired car that adds modifcations along the way. These don't have to be forward or back dating but can be an integrated roll cage, a different, larger capacity or forced aspirated engine etc.
@brianhimmelman420 because a "updated" 964 with modern suspension and some carbon panels / uprated engine is a nice drive while still looking original and no one really does that. Backdating a 964, IMHO, just makes it as some sort of freak that tries to look like an old car while not being so. Singer does it best tho, and I understand their decision to base their car on a relatively widely available model... it just looks wrong in my eyes. I would really like to see just a lightened updated 964. Speaking of big mega money 911s, RUF does it best with their carbon cars... just looks right + Tuthill for the older stuff that you can drive to the limit... The rest are just trying to copy SInger..
Fortunately there's plenty of G-body car's available for such a project in either left or right hand drive .. at least for now anyway!, maybe it's not such a surprise that there's opportunistic guys that see how potentially lucrative a business transforming the remaining and more affordable 911s are left in the world for more budget conscious builders and buyers!,I guess it was just a matter of before this was going to happen!?, unfortunately that still means though for 😢 most of us these kind of reto- mods will still be out of reach financially for most of us but its got to be a very exciting time for anyone that could muster up 250,000 quid and is willing to wait the few year's it'd take to realise their dream car!🥳🙏
I like the term “retromod” as signifies to me you’re making a newer car, older. Restomod is to me restoring a car and modifying if, maybe with more modern bits.
Resto talks to the restoration of an old tired car, and Retro talks to the back dating to look like an F body (no impact bumpers). Mod talks to the upgrade in components. So both are right. Most people say restomod.
You’re correct, that’s what that looks like. For 250 k who’s painting this thing? Nice car but come on now, for that kind of money we shouldn’t see rust on the door hinges.
Hang on a minute - either the interior is or isn’t done by the same team that do the Singer DLS interiors. There shouldn’t be a need for ‘apparently’ . So which is it?

Interesting business case regarding brand value. Theon has a huge problem now as of course the people that can afford a Singer or Theon care about economics.
All these restomods are basically wiping out the stock of untouched 964s. At some not-that-distant point, an OEM 964 may end up more valuable than the modified cars.
I bought a 964 two years ago for that very reason
If nobody else but these , At least the tuthil and this renn sport use gbody and gunther and kraeger use 993
Only singer and Theon use 964 I think
Some day I'd like to do for the 928 what these companies have done for the 911. Very beautiful car. No wonder there's a long waiting list. Thank you.
Would love to see a 914 restomod I think the front blinkers would look good as the headlights and use the pop ups for fog lamps!
Those deep-dish rear wheels are the business! 😍
Superb 👏 thanks for sharing 🏁
Love the 81 vintage Borg Fila tracksuit top . Very nice touch

I would go RUF as i think they seem to make the best sounding flat sixes, even the turbo's they make sound awesome!
Great video. The presenter is top-notch!
Hower, that Singer is so good-looking. (Modern-day 930.) The others can't hold a candle to it.
Yep
930 turbo is a trash car with archaic suspension. All of them need restomod

Both of those are much more refined (and faster) than a Rennsport. Nice if you want refined, but not as raw or involving as a Rennsport.

One of the best Swiss Tony impression I’ve seen in a long time.
backdating a 964 is a shame in itself.. .
Why?

Rennsport are primarily G Body based on 3.2 Carreras, though they have done quite a few 964s as well.

Now I want one, too!!!
That's a real shame the steering wheel is on the wrong BLOODY SIDE....nice try though

No it's on the right side😊
I don’t understand backdating the looks but do understand forward dating the underpinnings. Would anyone backdate a 992 to a 964 or 993 if they could?
There is actually a singer for sale at the moment for less than £1m, but anyway
I have the 83 Fila original top in wool :)
The narrator said "Retromod", but the title is written with the term "Restomod". I wonder if it's the same or if not, what is the difference.

I really think your Katie Price comparison misses the mark somewhat. Those are not the kind of mods anyone wants to see on a 911.
Or buy an 67/73 911S and still have some money left, there just as thrilling full chatt 😎

£2,000,000 for Singer DLS . It’s what happens when money was cheap .
Probably £500k for build
£1,500,000 profit 😂👎

Porsche finally got sick of this and are going after Singer.
RUF will always be the goat
Porsche by the numbers? The 911 is the poor mans 928. The 928 is by far the single biggest slam dunk in collectible porsches

Go home you’re drunk. Porsche wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the 911.
I would take a VW bug over a 928 any day of the week. 928 is garbage. Looks stupid.
Try and debate on mechanics, build, facts? That’s what I thought - emotional reasoning
