Another reason why we have to thank the movies, in particular their portrayal of Knuckles. The movie portrayal reminded everybody what Knuckles the Echidna is supposed to be, and now it looks like it’s beginning to (finally) translate into the games once again. The sonic the hedgehog redemption arc has arrived people
This is why sonic 2 is my favorite movie of all time. They potrayed everyone perfectly and made me love sonic again. Ever since lost world, I havent enjoyed anything sonic becaus of how boring and dry they felt for such a long time. Until sonic 2, I became a fanboy again.

Knuckles was able to evolve back to a good character “hopefully” but shadow is now always going to be a edgy hedgehog now. So wild to me hearing Roger normal again after listening to the dialogue in Frontiers, it's really showing his range as a VA tho which is neat. Loving Dave's new direction he sounds miles (get it) better here than he did in TSR!
@@jakeriese4862 People think Sonic's voice will be different in frontiers because there was a leaked recording of his dialogue and gameplay at a games con but the video was filmed with a literal calculator of a filming device (I'm exaggerating, it was probably an iPhone but the audio is not very good) and his voice sounded deeper. But I am 100 percent certain it was a mixture of different things that made it sound so deep. 1. is the audio recording quality being bad, 2. Roger very much could have just F'ed up his voice at that particular scene cause this was only one scene of many that will be in the game and 3. is the fact it could be the engine. Frontiers is using a different engine than the other games i think and this is the first open world game sega is making. The audio could be coming from the player model and maybe the echoing of the voice in the world causes it to sound deeper, as well as the crappy audio from the recording device.

@@Terminal_Apotos Funny thing is Scott Dreier is my favorite as well. But I didn't mind Dan Green in the beginning. He had a tougher version of that voice to me in the early eps of Sonic X. His voice as Pharoah was actually a good voice to use for Knuckles if he'd actually used it. But then he got goofy and growly. I mean Scott's portrayal in Heroes made for a decent transition to that but still. I didn't hate Dan BUT Travis Willingham did a good job sounding a LOT like Dan Green but... somehow more comforting for me? Like he was able to mellow out the voice sometimes. I actually love his voice for BOOM (Though hate the characterization of course). So Travis is my second favorite voice. This voice isn't bad either tho.
I love how knuckles isn't a dumb joke punching bag in this, he may have had trouble with the camera, but that's only because he's lives on a sorta remote island his whole life. Very nice!
Honestly, "It's my job to protect the emeralds, not use them," is a pretty good reason as to why Knux doesn't have a superform he uses often unlike Sonic, despite him having a closer connection to them. He just decides to not try to use them for that reason, 'cause he doesn't think it's his place as guardian to do that. Good stuff. Edit: To clarify, I know Knux has Hyper Knux, but that was only in one game. That's why I said, "Super form he uses often," as Sonic has used Super Sonic multiple times. Hyper Knux only had one in game appearance, and it's not clear if him ever using that form is canon to the games or not.

It's not that Knuckles doesn't have a super form because he does. (In fact, I think anyone can have a super form.) It's just that he doesn't feel like he allowed to do use the emeralds' power to transform.
I know people have gotten too used to Knuckles being made fun of. but it’s nice to see him at least be allowed to seriously talk about the Master Emerald, without someone saying “oh, you mean the rock battery you keep losing?” And he’s like NO, the ultimate source of power that keeps my home from falling, which I also grew up with.
I love how Knuckles there isn't "funny idiot" like in all modern games, but a guy who knows a lot about ancient technology and his tribe, it's a good sight because Knux is one of my top 5 fav sonic characters and seeing him "dumb" in ways what can get explained (Not good in technology becasue he is typical "Wild life guy who uses primitive ways to destroy his enemies") really fits his character

I love that not only did we get a knuckles voice reveal, but they tied Frontiers into this video, mentioning that Tails was looking into the emeralds when he learned about the Starfall Islands! What a clever way to make the transition a bit more seamless!
Oooooooh the tie-in to Frontiers was so well done. I love how it explains how Sonic, Tails, and Amy learned about the islands in the first place. Now I'm interested to see how Knuckles would arrive there. Can't wait for the prologue animation!
The cherry on top would be if the Sonic Frontiers Prologue series starts off with Knuckles storming off from the interview after smashing the communicator device.
Knuckles acts and sounds great! Dave B. Mitchell's new voice direction really shines here, as he sounded a lot like some dumb jock in Team Sonic Racing, but now, it seems he's playing into his "Scott Dreier" and "Travis Willingham!" (Also, that "Oh. No thanks." (0:42) is such a mood, and how he wouldn't hesitate to hurt Tails (1:56), and I love it. I love him.) Knuckles himself is written pretty well here, and it's always great to see Sonic and Knuckles interact with each other (and freak out when Rouge is mentioned). And we finally get some confirmation as to why Knuckles doesn't use the Master Emerald to transform into Super Knuckles like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles! As the guardian of the Master Emerald, it isn't his place to use/abuse its power, much like his ancestors and forefathers before him, but since Sonic isn't under that regulation, he's allowed to without any consequences (2:11). And did I just hear Tails tease Hyper Sonic (2:17)? We also know that the Master Emerald doesn't just up and disappear. Knuckles will often leave his island unattended if Sonic can't save the world on his own (Heroes, Riders, '06, Lost World, Forces, Team Sonic Racing, etc.) (2:55). And finally, we get a tie-in to Sonic Frontiers, as Tails discovers a mysterious island while looking for the Chaos Emeralds and asks Sonic and Amy to come check it out with him. That's it. That's how the story begins (3:36). In conclusion, Knuckles is back. No more of that bumbling idiot we've had since 2010. EDIT: Also, a bit of a hot take, but I think I prefer his voice direction here rather than in Sonic Frontiers and the prologue animation. Coming back from those, I still heard a little bit of that "dumb jock" in his delivery at times, so can I say that his delivery in those were slightly inferior to what we got here or not?
Travis Willingham (the voice of Knuckles from 2010-2017) left after Forces to take time for his (at the time) newborn baby with his wife, Laura Bailey (the voice of Blaze and Omochao from 2010-2011), who also left the series. As of Team Sonic Racing, Knuckles is now voiced by Dave B. Mitchell and Blaze and Omochao by Erica Lindbeck.
Man, Dave Mitchell sounds SOOOOO much better than in TSR. I’m really loving that Knuckles is back to his gullible, but serious, emerald guardian life we haven’t seen since….. 1998? It makes me happy that they’re bringing in his Sonic Movie 2 personality into the main games. Hopefully, Frontiers Prologue will give us a very good explanation as to how he ended up in the Starfall Islands.

Seeing Knuckles and Tails’ dynamic here is so sweet!! I love how Knuckles was worried about Tails being in danger at the start and is doing his best to get the technology working to call him (despite later breaking it in his anger lmao) but then he also wouldn’t hesitate to fling Tails off the island if he got a little too close to the emerald haha. Tails’ enthusiasm vs Knuckles’ very straightforward and short tempered nature is so fun! I hope we see more of them interacting in future :)

I love Dave’s interpretation of Knuckles. The last time he was just doing an impression of Travis’s Knuckles, but here, I feel like he really put that serious character tone back into Knuckles. Oh. My Gosh. That Tails Heal file on his desktop is the cutest thing ever, and is an incredible Easter Egg to Sonic Battle on the Game Boy Advance. Even the icon itself looks like the customizable chips Emerl uses to store moves learnt from Sonic and his friends. As a matter of fact, Tails' desktop is covered with all sorts of cool Easter Eggs and references. The Tails' Heal icon was the one to make me comment though.

@@Terminal_Apotos Funny thing is Scott Dreier is my favorite as well. But I didn't mind Dan Green in the beginning. He had a tougher version of that voice to me in the early eps of Sonic X. His voice as Pharoah was actually a good voice to use for Knuckles if he'd actually used it. But then he got goofy and growly. I mean Scott's portrayal in Heroes made for a decent transition to that but still. I didn't hate Dan BUT Travis Willingham did a good job sounding a LOT like Dan Green but... somehow more comforting for me? Like he was able to mellow out the voice sometimes. I actually love his voice for BOOM (Though hate the characterization of course). So Travis is my second favorite voice.
This voice isn't bad either tho.
Loved the Starfall Islands being teased at the end, really nice way of making everything feel like part of the same universe.
I love how knuckles isn't a dumb joke punching bag in this, he may have had trouble with the camera, but that's only because he's lives on a sorta remote island his whole life. Very nice!
Honestly, "It's my job to protect the emeralds, not use them," is a pretty good reason as to why Knux doesn't have a superform he uses often unlike Sonic, despite him having a closer connection to them. He just decides to not try to use them for that reason, 'cause he doesn't think it's his place as guardian to do that. Good stuff.
Edit: To clarify, I know Knux has Hyper Knux, but that was only in one game. That's why I said, "Super form he uses often," as Sonic has used Super Sonic multiple times. Hyper Knux only had one in game appearance, and it's not clear if him ever using that form is canon to the games or not.

Knuckles acts and sounds great! Dave B. Mitchell's new voice direction really shines here, as he sounded a lot like some dumb jock in Team Sonic Racing, but now, it seems he's playing into his "Scott Dreier" and "Travis Willingham!" (Also, that "Oh. No thanks." (0:42) is such a mood, and how he wouldn't hesitate to hurt Tails (1:56), and I love it. I love him.)
Knuckles himself is written pretty well here, and it's always great to see Sonic and Knuckles interact with each other (and freak out when Rouge is mentioned). And we finally get some confirmation as to why Knuckles doesn't use the Master Emerald to transform into Super Knuckles like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles! As the guardian of the Master Emerald, it isn't his place to use/abuse its power, much like his ancestors and forefathers before him, but since Sonic isn't under that regulation, he's allowed to without any consequences (2:11). And did I just hear Tails tease Hyper Sonic (2:17)?
We also know that the Master Emerald doesn't just up and disappear. Knuckles will often leave his island unattended if Sonic can't save the world on his own (Heroes, Riders, '06, Lost World, Forces, Team Sonic Racing, etc.) (2:55).
And finally, we get a tie-in to Sonic Frontiers, as Tails discovers a mysterious island while looking for the Chaos Emeralds and asks Sonic and Amy to come check it out with him. That's it. That's how the story begins (3:36).
In conclusion, Knuckles is back. No more of that bumbling idiot we've had since 2010.
EDIT: Also, a bit of a hot take, but I think I prefer his voice direction here rather than in Sonic Frontiers and the prologue animation. Coming back from those, I still heard a little bit of that "dumb jock" in his delivery at times, so can I say that his delivery in those were slightly inferior to what we got here or not?

Travis Willingham (the voice of Knuckles from 2010-2017) left after Forces to take time for his (at the time) newborn baby with his wife, Laura Bailey (the voice of Blaze and Omochao from 2010-2011), who also left the series.
As of Team Sonic Racing, Knuckles is now voiced by Dave B. Mitchell and Blaze and Omochao by Erica Lindbeck.

Hopefully, Frontiers Prologue will give us a very good explanation as to how he ended up in the Starfall Islands.

Seeing Knuckles and Tails’ dynamic here is so sweet!! I love how Knuckles was worried about Tails being in danger at the start and is doing his best to get the technology working to call him (despite later breaking it in his anger lmao) but then he also wouldn’t hesitate to fling Tails off the island if he got a little too close to the emerald haha. Tails’ enthusiasm vs Knuckles’ very straightforward and short tempered nature is so fun! I hope we see more of them interacting in future :)

That Tails Heal file on his desktop is the cutest thing ever, and is an incredible Easter Egg to Sonic Battle on the Game Boy Advance. Even the icon itself looks like the customizable chips Emerl uses to store moves learnt from Sonic and his friends.
As a matter of fact, Tails' desktop is covered with all sorts of cool Easter Eggs and references. The Tails' Heal icon was the one to make me comment though.
