Great content. No disrespect…Whenever I hunt my dogs with more than one person, I always handle my dog until he doesn’t break. For example, I never shoot the first volleys of the morning until the dog proves that he doesn’t break. You’re pup Is excellent; great drive, obedience in check, and marks well. My trainer always said it’s your fault and not the dogs. My background…the youngest is a master hunter. Keep up the great hunts, thank you.
I appreciate you watching and the advice as well! I gave her a slight correction when she crept on that first retrieve and in the moment I thought that would be enough to keep her steady. Obviously it wasn’t and in hindsight I wish I had held off on picking up the gun. I also think I made a big mistake by setting her up where she couldn’t see the birds as they were being shot
Thanks Tanner, I appreciate it! I was hoping to do some river floats up here but I haven’t been able to find any ducks on the smaller rivers and the big ones are a little too much for the kayak I’ve got
@@HokeOutdoors we have. This is my first season of ducks too so we’re just figuring it out. It’s been some of the most fun I’ve had hunting! Love your videos man, you almost single handedly got me into it.
@@HokeOutdoors I am down in Florida, so not quite started yet. Will be my first season (at 47) so trying to learn as much as I can. Primarily using a canoe, kayak, or hiking in, so have enjoyed your videos.
Hey Hoke you might need to replace the recoil spring on your shotgun as much as you shoot it and as long as you’ve had it for , my Browning A5 had the same issue that yours was having, I replaced the recoil spring and gave it a cleaning and it was working good as new
I appreciate the tip! Replaced the recoil spring last year so I was pretty confident that wasn’t the issue. Ended up having some gunk in the recoil lever spring which was causing it not to load another shell. Got it sprayed out and haven’t had any issues since 🤞
Hi , really enjoy your videos. It's not a bad thing having your dog SWIMMING in the pond when ducks come in as they won't flair from the movement (obviously don't shoot your dog 😁) Your dog's keen as , she'll have better days and worse days as she learns. Don't knock the keenness out of her. My dog even lies next to me when I'm in the layout blind with no undue effect on the birds. Enjoy your season, ours finished at the end of August.
@@HokeOutdoors Not so many ducks but we shot well. Mostly private land here, so if they're not around the property you hunt then that's it. Got a couple more properties for the pheasants so had a good season and the young dog went real well. I'm looking forward to watching the rest of your season.
^^ It’s a Franchi. It’s been a good gun for 5 years for me but the saltwater and mud up here have caused issues. It all comes down to just needing to clean it better.
You need to put a correctional collar on Rue before something BAD happens buddy! She is GOOD dog, just need to have control of her at all times. Luv the videos! GOD BLESS ALL!!!👍🤗🙏
Completely agree about needing to have more control. She’s got an e-collar on, I’ve just been caught flat footed a few times and haven’t been quick enough in using it
@@HokeOutdoors I totally understand that! I know how it is in the excitement of the hunt, just dont want to see something BAD happen! BEST OF LUCK this season!!!👍🤗🙏
IDK what it is but all of my friends have had bad luck with Stoegers. Aren't they made by Benelli? I have a Franchi Waterfowl Elite which I also think is made by Benelli and after testing 6 different shotguns it has performed the best
What are you trying to get from the poor dog? All i can say is at least your not hitting it or mistreating, but from what i can say its in the top tier of what any hunter should hope for. Be glad for the dog you have.
I know it might seem harsh but everything I was doing in this situation was for her own safety. A breaking dog creates an unsafe shooting environment, especially if your hunting in a low profile hide like layout blinds or a pit blind
@@HokeOutdoors >it wasnt harsh, just seemed overly expressive, i had chessies, and if she broke wasnt a big deal. Yes you dont wanna risk the dog but then you have the gun, just watch your shots. My dog, ill never get a better one. Best dog i could ask for, even if she didnt score crap in a trial.
I did that the previous couple of hunts and she had been very steady. I put her in a bad spot to start with and was trying to reign her back in the rest of the hunt
Can we just fundraise some money for you to get a new gun. Seems like the entire time I've watched you (like 3+ years I think?) you've had issues with that gun. I've had a Maxus for 5+ years and I can't count on one hand the amount of times it's failed to function.
Haha I'm thinking about grabbing something new before too long. I just really like how the Franchi fits me and how it patterns. The only other guns that fit me as well are the A5 and SBE lineups but both of those have their own issues

Cool , I miss duck hunting haven’t been in years . Lots of fun ,
Why did you stop going??

Nice Thomas! Only 19 more days here!
Seeing many birds down there yet?

Much appreciated, hope you enjoyed it!
Said it once I’ll say it again Hoke you never disappoint with your videos always entertaining and super enjoyable!
I appreciate you watching!
Dude go buy a Winchester Sx4 lol awesome video as always! Keep them coming!
Thanks Hunter! I’ve just never been a fan of the how the SX4 fits me. If I pick up another gun it would probably be a Beretta A400
Learning a lot from you!

I always use a frame pack for duck hunting
It’s been a game changer for me this season
What kinda guns do you guys shoot ? Because I wanna know what not to buy
Avoid the Franchi
That is the Franchi affinity 3. I personally love mine and haven’t had a problem with it. Keep it clean and it works like a charm.

Hey man I love the hunt! Accidents happen. How did you teach rue to stay by you and not just run off?
Thanks Mike! Cory did the majority of her training along with some help from Tim Springer at Dynamic Retrievers so that would be a question for them.

Yeah I've had some issues with Stoegers as well, they are made by Benelli but I believe they are manufactured in the US instead of Italy
Hows the salt treating those shotguns? Lol
Haha that mud/saltwater combination up here is something else!
What’s the camera called that you have on your shotgun cam and where did you get it from?
Shotcam
It’s a ShotKam, should be able to find it with a google search
Ayyyy
Not sure why your gun keeps jamming. What are you shooting?? My stoeger never never jams like that.
