    Congratulations, it's a difficult plant to grow even here in its native region, it's amazing how you managed to find a suitable crop for it

    Violacea's, one of my favorite orchids. It actually makes me sad to see the blooms fade away on these. I do loose leaves in the winter. Most cattleyas can take a few cool nights in the 40's. So these cattleyas are very sensitive to cool temperatures? I love your Stanhopea. I would love to see a care video on these types. First time I have see one mounted.

    • @orchidhouse
      @orchidhouse 3 года назад +1

      Yes it is one of the most sensitive Cattleya specie when it comes to cold. I bring mine indoors below 55 F to be on the safe side. I'll work on a care video for Stanhopeas but I am still fairly new to growing them. Most of my Stanhopeas are actually potted in a basket which is the best way to grow them I believe but I can't resist mounting some and they seem to be doing fine. After all that is how they grow in nature LOL.

      You have a keen eye. Unfortunately, I have not been very successful so far. After one year, it has grown a decent root system but I have had 3 spurts of buds and they blast every single time. I do not know why. If you are successful with yours, please feel free to let me know how you do it. If I get better at it, I will post a video down the road.

  • @coypeahen
    @coypeahen 3 года назад +1

    Water them all the time. Does that mean you water them everyday? Would you water them twice on a hot summer day? In Mumbai, we’re at 42C and the humidity at 55% today. Under a shade net. I do hose them twice a day. Thoroughly in the early mornings and a shower in the afternoon around 3:00. I’m suddenly feeling diffident....

    • @orchidhouse
      @orchidhouse 3 года назад +1

      Yes I water it every day. While I seldom water twice, I could. At 42 C (very hot) and 55% humidity (not that high) I would think it is wise to water them twice. Mounted orchids have exposed roots and they dry out fast. It is nearly impossible to overwater them. The only time I would not water is when temperatures are low (below 15 or 20 C). It sounds like you are doing the right thing. How is your plant doing? If it is healthy and blooming you should continue doing what you are doing. Every environment is different and you can always give general guidance on how to grow a specific orchid but we each have to try out strategies on our own.

    • @coypeahen

      Olivier, I began using a hose this year, after realising that my orchids are thirsty all the time when I use just a sprayer to water them. They’re picking up quite well. They’ve all got new growths and new roots, and some have sheaths. The dendrobium are doing especially well. I’m hoping I will have flowers by June. I hang terracotta pots filled with water to up the humidity a little. I’m so hoping I can manage to do this, living on the 20th floor. I try to get the water8ng done before the neighbours wake up, and the overflow dries up. One lives in hope...

      It is impossible to reply without seeing the plant. Is it potted? If yes then I would check the root system first and surely change the watering habits but it may ba too late for this one?
