The best player you will ever see. Unbelievable talent. He had no protection in the 1982 World Cup. Every tackle was career ending. George Best had to put up with the same thing every week with inferior players trying to break his legs.
He just stood up and continued playing after being brutally fouled one after another. He didn’t even complain let along rowed over 18 rounds on the pitch.

I watched this game in 1982. There was an episode when Maradona, being in the penalty area of the Hungarians, tried to hit the ball through himself, flying behind him in pursuit of him. He was closeely guarded by a defender. It was the most beautiful moment in the game, showing how gifted Maradona has. But he was not included in this video.

Maradona was a midfielder player not really a striker but he was actually a real 10 a real midfielder so yes wen the team need it he always used to go back and help the defenders , he was a complete player , Messi and cr7 the strikers that’s why we can’t compare them they don’t even play in the same position , also wen the team didn’t have any good striker he always used to start it and finish it, like his first 4 or 5 years in argentino juniors wen his first game was at age of 15 years old, in that time argentinos juniors was a real poor team but maradona had the goals score for 5 years consecutive in the Argentina league, so that’s tells you Maradona did everything he was the real God of futbol 🥅

The game was FAR slower in 1982 than modern football. So its not a far comparison, the players probably covered 30% less distance versus modern players..

Mészöly told me to ask Garabas, they had played against him. Garaba said that against Boca Juniors two of them were marking him, chasing him through the whole match, couldn't even hack him up. Mezey (ass. coach) asked me not to hack him to avoid red card, just bother him constantly and the defenders behind me would help. Early in the match Maradona took the ball past me, I was looking back, nobody's behind me... He was world-class, beating everybody within three meters, recieved the ball and wasn't even there anymore, he scored twice against us."
But that time it was a correct decision according to me. the same thing did Kaizer Beckenbauer in 1986's world cup to tackle Maradona (5 defenders actually). because he was unstoppable. later Beckenbauer was asked by the press media whether it was the correct format for Germany. he told exactly what the hungarian's coach replied to the media. the truth is situation demanded that time to follow that Format.

Thus, Maradona ran everywhere he was a playmaker and also a striker unlike today's Ronaldo who just stands not far from the opponent's goalkeeper and by doing a 30-50 meter sprint think they are great footballers. At the time he was only 22 and referees did not yet protect him. By 1986, he had received the protection he needed!

Amigo defender of Pelé, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldiño and Brutaldo. This is not about the highest scorer, it’s about ability and technic, great firness, speed, and most importanly, passion.
