Glad that keychron is getting more into different style of layouts like this HHKB one, and the keycaps looks so nice and the blue with grey ish colorway looks kinda.. calming, ig thats the word? :D And the tape mod?? Dang. Though i guess i have been hearing too much of deep ish sound profiles that this clacky ish thin-like sound isn't my tea, but everybody's preference is different.! Love the video, great quality and such a nice review, nice sound test too. :)
Wow thank you for your comment!! Yes it is nice to see Keychron venturing into these more niche layouts. It seems that everything's a 65% these days, so it's definitely a breath of fresh air to mix it up now and then. I agree about the colorway; I think Keychron has knocked it out of the park with how this board looks! I have preferred a deeper, foamier sound profile over the past year but the sound of foamless, clackier boards are starting to gain on me. I think the main difference is that foam tends to just drown everything to be very similar regardless of switch, case, pcb, plate, etc. Anyway, thank you for watching and I appreciate you spending the time to leave a comment. Means a lot to me! 😁
wanted to order it upon its release when I noticed its beautiful retro colors but I didn't. It is certainly one elegant piece carrying all the features we demand from one metal keyboard in a relatively good price. Still, hearing now the typing sound, I am not really into it anymore. I would expect one premium poppy/clacky sound or mild thocky. Perhaps it needs some modding or the tape one needs to be removed so the sound becomes deeper while I prefer clicky tactile switches for this one. Nevertheless, its design and manufacturing quality may only stand attractive.
Thank you for the comment! Listening to this keyboard again, I feel this board could benefit from some layers of foam to make the sound more appealing. I'm still in love with the design though 🌞
I'm on my second keyboard build (came from assembled Keychron V1), and was trying to find some nice keyboards but all of them had their little issues until I stumbled across this keyboard, I'm in love and a real sucker for the silver and HHKB look! Now I'm definetly gonna pick this up! ☺️
Hopefully this video was helpful for you to make that decision! I really do like this keyboard and think it's one of Keychron's more interesting offerings. Definitely their best-looking, though! Let me know how you like it if you end up picking this up!
@@TAZAKEYI think it is definitely one of their more interesting and best-looking options out there aswell! Although I really want it, I am still a little on the fence about it because of the uniquely odd HHBK Keychron-inspired layout and the fact that it will limit my keycap set choices. I am still pretty confident about it though, because all the other highly recommended cases are rarely sold from the UK and European vendors which means there would be a hefty cost to ship to the UK. Since I am not very experienced, please tell me if I am missing anything (e.g. any other good 60-65% cases soon to be in stock). I would really appreciate it if you told me what you thought! ❤
@@apo11ocat I didn't find the layout too limiting for my keycaps actually! The most important thing to remember is that the spacebar is a 7u spacebar, but you should be able to find the right size keycaps in most "complete" keycap sets!! I'm not sure if they ship from the UK/EU, but I would recommend giving NuPhy a look too! I've had a good experience with them so far and their boards are actually very reasonably priced (I'm sure you could find a coupon code somewhere as well to save on your order). It would probably come in at a little less than even this Keychron board. At this point, I've accepted that no keyboard will be my "last", so I just think of it as which one I want next.. haha. Not the most helpful mindset, but I think it makes the decision-making a little easier :- ) Good luck in your search!
@@TAZAKEY Thanks for the feedback! I will also definitely check out the NuPhy. Very unfortunate as well and giving me an existential crisis knowing the fact that no keyboard will ever be my last if I am striving for the "best" keyboard, even though it does help with the decision-making process. 😛 Once again, thank you for the helpful insight!
Just pulled the trigger on one of these myself. I dont know if the HHKB layout will suit me but I just loved the aesthetic and couldn't resist. I wanted something a bit more unique as my smallest board to date is a Q5. I can't wait to get this one.
Nice! The HHKB layout is surprisingly intuitive to use. I do enjoy having the left ctrl where caps lock usually is. The good thing is that you can just use VIA to remap or build some layers to help you with transitioning to the layout. I think you'll love it! Thank you for watching 😁
I've had mine since december and I did not realize that that it came with a keycap puller or anything lmao. Thanks for the free keycap puller. Also ended up swapping the stabs, and the keycaps on mine to PBTfans dolch that I really like, but the stock caps are surprisingly nice too.
I may not have realized either if not for shooting this unboxing video! Was just trying to show that quick start guide to the camera but realized that there was a secret 007 compartment underneath hahah... I am considering changing out the stabs eventually as well - I'm not 100% happy with my tuning of the stock stabilizers, but they're much better now after relubing. I think I may try a WoB keycap set on this eventually for an extra contrast-y look. Dolch sounds like an amazing colorway for this boar as well! Anyway, thank you for watching and leaving a comment. I really appreciate it!!! 😁
There is still resonance, which is even more obvious in the second typing test after modding the board. I think it still needs a force break mod tbh. Apart from that, it's a great board for beginners wanting the hhkb layout
Yeah I don't see Keychron offering a lot of WKL options, if any. Seems like they're becoming more and more experimental with their available layouts though, so I wouldn't be surprised to see one in the future. I'm also a fan of small keyboards with thick bezels 🌞 Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
I think a full white version would sell well too, but I personally think they made the right choice just keeping this HHKB-esque vintage look to the board. It's all a matter of personal taste though :- ) Thank you for watching!
That would be interesting for sure. I'm not sure the key sizing lines up with an actual HHKB however, so need to check that as well. If I remember correctly the HHKB has a 6u spacebar and is shorter overall.
Strange... Although I have the HHKB that this looks just like, I am strangely tempted to get this also. On its own merits it seems like a really really nice high quality board.. I'd turn off the RGB tho.. I dont need that stuff.. Thought I'd never have a staggered key layout ever again after my migration to ortholinear/orthogonal.... but the HHKB wormed it way back into my life. "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!"
I use an HHKB Professional Classic as my daily driver for work, not by choice it just kind of ended up that way hahaha 😅 It's honestly not the most convenient for working with spreadsheets, but there's something so charming with the HHKB. This Q60 is similar but very different in some ways. The weight difference is the most obvious. This is a brick compared to the HHKB on the desk. Once it's on your desk, you're not going to move it around much. I also really like the thicker bezels of this Q60 and it's boxy-ness. All in all, I have both and will likely continue collecting HHKB layout keyboards.. Thank you so much for watching 🫡
@@TAZAKEY I've also added the left-diamond key as a 2nd Fn key and also added the U,N, H,J keys as up,dn, left, right keys... This fosters my keeping my hands on the homekeys for as much as possible, and have become my preferred way of using arrow keys. Of course, this means my keyboard is in HHK mode. That's got me to manage the spreadsheet-navigation issue to one that is much easier to tolerate. Even got the Studio but couldnt vibe with the stock switches.. I just dont like linears.. Got MX Box Winters on them.. I'm a fan of lighter tactiles at the moment.
Thank you for watching! Yeah, I can see how that could be the case haha. I was tempted by the QK60, but ended up passing and went for QK75 instead. Also have a QK65 on the shelf that still needs to be filmed and built.. Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment !! 😁
Thank you for making this! Currently pretty torn between this, the HHKB itself, and the Q pro series. I want a smaller keyboard with this layout for Linux/unix and programming. Any advice or insight you might be able to offer?
Hi Anthony, no problem at all :- ) If you're looking for this layout, then I think we can rule out the Q pro series for now. That's if you know for sure that this is the layout that you would like to go for though! I don't think there are any Q pro boards right now that have the HHKB layout - the closest seems to be a 60% keyboard. Between this board and the HHKB itself, the main deciding factor will be how much you are willing to sacrifice future customization. The Q60 is going to allow you to experiment with different switches and keycaps down the line, but the HHKB itself will lock you in to one switch and pretty much one keycap set (quality Topre keycaps harder to come by). The Keychron also is QMK/VIA compatible, so you'll be able to adjust your key mappings very easily while you're getting used to the layout. HHKB is remappable as well, but you'll be limited by their software. That being said, I must say I love Topre and it's my desert island switch. I actually use a Realforce R2 with silenced 55g Topre switches as my daily driver board for work. If you're commuting at all with your keyboard, the HHKB is going to be a better choice - the Q60 weighs a ton! HHKB is also wireless unless you go for the professional classic, while the Keychron Q60 is wired only (this could be a deal breaker for some). To sum it up: Q60: customizable, aluminum case, wired only, QMK/VIA, very heavy HHKB: the original (!), can be wireless, locked into Topre but you may love it (many do), portable I know I didn't give you a straight answer, but it's going to depend on what you need in this board! Thank you for watching and the question! Let me know if you have any further questions! (Bonus note: Once you get one, you will start thinking about the other hahaha. I personally plan to purchase an HHKB as well in the near future)
