  • Bob Harwood's journey with meditation and how it led him to the most profound knowing that life has to offer.
This talk was recorded at the TAT Foundation's August 2022 Retreat at the TAT Center in North Carolina, USA.
Bio: Bob is a general contractor who designed and built hundreds of homes and commercial buildings over a period of more than forty years. Today, he and his wife, Carol, manage two commercial office parks with 55 business tenants and they pursue many different interests. Bob had an active role in developing the TAT retreat center, and has given many presentations during past TAT retreats. In his spiritual autobiography, "Pouring Concrete: A Zen Path to the Kingdom of God," Bob recounts his path to the resolution of dozens of existential questions. His search for truth came to an end on August 17, 1999 when his past sense of personal selfhood vanished after hiking in the mountains and pursuing a meditative activity that he calls "ATA-T" (attending the actual minus thought). He realized on that day that he was NOT who had always imagined he was, and that no separate volitional entity had ever existed. He also realized that duality is solely a product of imagination, and that any sense of separateness is an illusion.

I love this talk. I have listened to it about 8 times already. I wish TAT would upload more of the talks. I live in Australia so its hard to attend your talks. I know it takes a huge amount of time to edit the talks but it's very much appreciated. Damian

Thanks for this publication, very helpful in conjunction with Richard Rose's little 30 page helper booklet : Meditation.
    I „thought“ I "heard" Shawn Nevin's smile at minute 12:00 - and I realised I hadn't ever mentioned that before:
I remember this „magic“ of "cosmic humour" which Shawn Nevins also has. This cosmic humour (I don't have a better word for it) is extremely lovely and at the same time full of countless deep layers for grasping, and it feels/sense very familiar to „something“ which is no-thing.
I am also very familiar with the paradoxes of science (Minute 17:00), school and adult teaching/education, etc. I asked similar questions to my teachers and drove them crazy (in physics, religion, languages and maths). I had also told them that something is definitely wrong with it, that something was either missing or inaccurate or distorted.
With the onset of puberty, I gave up or got distracted or both. In retrospect, it was very enriching for me to be able to make this correlation (for myself) with Richard Rose's content on sexuality.
Something I can better describe today in a metaphor, something like an Excel spreadsheet where someone has messed with the formulas..... so that the columns (space) and the rows (time) distort everything in the calculating space in such a way that it cannot be corrected. The only chance is, to omit everything, every time, every space, every formula .... to get as close as possible to a „blank excel sheet“ .... (detachment) .... and from there to THE ABSOLUTE ..... This methaphor as well helped me „to understand/grasp“ the topic of the Vector and the Jacob's ladder more deeply.
This metaphorical Excel table is such a distorted huge chaos (the calculating spaces, formulas, columns, rows and inserts in boxes and checkboxes .... IT IS such a MESS ..... (simulation upon simulation) ….“Nobody“ and No-Thing can correct it. (I'm right there with Howdie Mickoski and Richard Rose....) but we can find our way back BIT by BIT (and never via Qubit 😉) via the vector and at the same time the reversal of the vector and the Jacob's ladder. The roadmap from/by Richard Rose .....
Ps: I am also grateful and again motivated to be able to share "my perceptions and sensings" here, which 99.99% of people consider to be crazy and pathological.
    Pps: From minute 32 😅.... funny part….

I would love the luxury of going to my group when feeling stuck. The only groups around are yoga enthusiasts who practice to feel "yummy", new age meditators who get off on the hypnotic tones of Tibetan and glass bowls and Wiccans who work to make life more pleasing with seasonal rituals and white magic (decorating the cave). I think most of us don't have access to a like minded group and your advice is not only inadequate, but a slam on our concerns and need for support. When the man said he was frustrated and discouraged he need some practical response- not to lean on his "group"- one that most of us don't have.

Appreciate your comment! TAT (a.k.a. us) is Rose's organization which he founded 50 years ago. We have a listing of groups meeting in person and online who mostly follow the group self-inquiry comfrontation style. Each one is different, but you can find more info here: tatfoundation.org/forum/#TAT_Foundation_News. Search on the page for "Local Group News".

I fuckin love this . But I've gotta bring up the Eckhart Tolle and David Blaine story (1:30:30). I fucking love Eckhart Tolle, and I still fuck wit him, and I'll prolly reread his first book, but when I heard him tell that story, it spoke volumes 2 me. As far as spiritual ego and comparing himself to Blaine n stuff.
But idk, it's a different story if Eckhart said that it response to to Blaine asking him that. But the story I thought I heard Eckhart Tolle tell initially was, he and his wife were walking around Vegas and encountered Blaine holding his breath under water. And Tolle just said " well i can stop thinking for 7 minutes."

Isn’t that okay? He can stop thinking. Can David Blaine? Let it go.

@@victorsandblom5506 amen. We can stop thinking. And let it go is good advice. It's just that, I think there's a difference between some sort of skill/identity/accomplishment thing (Which is actually all fine in a lot of cases) , and spirituality. To blend the two would be spiritual ego, I think. It spoke volumes to me. All I'm saying. I still like Eckhart.
Even how you're like " he can, but can David Blaine?" implies that you're making some kind of sport out of nondualism.

It's _"mistakes"_ :) Yet according you there is no mistake in _not_ remembering either, nor in your performative self-contradiction or my pointing this out. Neither in your next reponse, should there be one, nor in case of your not responding.
      Did I miss something ?

Clinton was supremely arrogant. This guy is in a room with 5 other people. Way harder. He is very authentic.
