As I sit here watching your videos I wait to hear the words that my father will be well he fell off our roof two days ago and landed on his head broke 5 vertabrae including one in his neck his collar bone his clavicle his 12th rib he ruptured his adrenal glands and his brain is bleeding... Your videos have soothed my pain I held my dad's head in my hands as it appeared he was breathing his last breath I prayed without ceasing and kept him stable until the hilocopter arrived praise God he's going to survive I have had thousands praying God's love is great.. I want to thank you for your videos I do believe they are breaking down barriers between cultures and they have helped me through this hard time. Thank you!
I’m ashamed to admit I have not heard Chris sing this before. As soon as it began I thought of my dad who I know was not a vocal praying man, it was always mom. My mommy prayed for everything and I find that I do as well. Mom and dad are together again in heaven and I look forward to the day that the Lord bring us all home as one whole family as it was always meant to be. Please don’t hold back a moment to pay someone a compliment, but their coffee etc. I was blessed the other day to pay for a bag of candy for a wonderful woman who told me she practice’s paying it forward but no one ever did for her. It was her birthday too. She said “I can’t wait to get home and tell my mama”. Her joy melted my heart.
Hey you nailed this reaction! They are the meaning of power couple, way stronger together than they could have ever been alone. His songs just hit you right in the Heart, it's a gift straight from Heaven.
JJ......... you are such a good, decent, and genuine person! As natural and genuine as people come. You approach each one of your reactions with an open mind and an open heart, and I really enjoy watching you allow the music to reach you. Absolutely no pretentiousness, just comfortable in your own skin. My hat's off, and congrats to you!!
You get it man! So many people want to just listen to music hoping it “sounds” like they want it to. They don’t “Listen” to the music and usually don’t appreciate real songs from the soul. This guy can fill everyone’s needs. He’s a once in a generation talent.
Absolutely love your sweatshirt! I am a mature white woman who emphasizes and stands up for injustices in our world. My two very best friends are African American and their my family. So in my solidarity I protest and I wear daily a Black Lives Matter face mask. Today while exiting a store and holding open the door for a 60 year old white man, he looked at me and said all lives matter you know. Instead of causing an altercation I simply stated yes all lives do matter. It’s such a shameful, scary world we’re living in right now and it astound me that people feel that they can say anything they want. Chris Stapleton’s music is my escape. I could literally listen to him for the rest of my life! Love and happiness to you and all your viewers! ❤️
Lost my Dad on April 4th, 2019. Walked into his hospital room as he was taking his last few breaths. It was a very difficult thing for me to witness. He's with my Mom, and my sister now... miss you Daddy *!
I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my Dad in 2004. Seems like yesterday. You’ll smile and laugh again...I promise. May not seem like it now...but you will. My heart goes out to you.
Randy Spires dude...I feel ya. I lost min a couple yrs ago. My mom died many yrs ago. It’s a different world without your pops. I have so many more questions!
Lost my dad March 19 2005. He would call me just about everyday. Still have a recording he left me on my phone. I always told him I’d see or talk to him later. That’s the last thing I told him before he passed. And I will someday!
This song is the perfect testament to his talent. It’s not easy to create something so beautiful in its simplicity. No overproduction, no bells & whistles....just well written music & lyrics tied together perfectly with an amazing performance. It’s a special thing and an under appreciated art to be able to pull something like this off and make it so memorable. To be honest, It makes me a little upset at God for putting so much talent in one person. Keep the reactions coming.....you’re good people. Much love and respect.
This song makes me cry. I lost him some years ago. I miss my dad every day. He's was the Lord now no more pain. I watch the cancer eat him alive. God how miss him.
Thank You for the Back Story. I mostly listen to country music, my whole life (66 yrs). I hadn't idea how this song was written. Chris is beyond amazing. Love Ya❣️
We played this song at my Daddy’s Funeral. We played the song right before they escorted his casket out of the chapel to take to the grave site. I took care of him the last five months of his life. I listened to my father say his prayers every night and every morning.
Chris Strapleton wrote a song about how a tree viewed a battle in the Civil War. It was titled "Sticks That Made Thunder." I guess he can write a song about anything.
These are a few songs written by Chris Stapleton to other artists (He’s written over 200): Adele - If It Hadn’t Been For Love Alison Krauss & Union Station - Miles to Go Sheryl Crow - Homesick George Strait - Loves Gonna Make It Alright Lee Ann Womack - There's More Where That Came From Kenny Chesney - Never Wanted Nothin' More Josh Turner - Your Man Darius Rucker - Comeback Song Luke Bryan - Drink A Beer Thomas Rhett - Something to Do with My Hands Blake Shelton - Ready to Roll Little Big Town - Front Porch Thing Alan Jackson - Talk is Cheap Kellie Pickler - Ring For Sale Brad Paisley - The Best Thing I Had Goin’ Miranda Lambert - Nobodys Fool
Glad you did this one, been waiting to see if you would do it. One of my favorites. Simple but it still touches your soul just like all the rest. Just listen to everything you can by him.. You'll never go wrong. Keep 'em coming.
Absolutely he does! I love him so much! He recognizes talent no matter the genre, and is SUPER respectful and REAL. I love that. This fan isn’t going ANYWHERE! I listened to country in the 90’s bc my bf did. I love Reba, Martina, and all the greats, but I stopped listening completely when we broke up. Chris Stapleton is an anomaly. He “brought me back from bein’ too far gone!” LOL I listen to Chris and some 90’s country here and there, but if it weren’t for Chris and Morgan, I still wouldn’t listen to country-except Carrie Underwood because.......Oh. My. Gosh. That voice!!!! She’s my female equivalent to CS. All love to everyone! Have a blessed year, and stay safe! May God bless you all!
Tears streaming down my cheeks, lump in my throat, miss my HERO(father), my BEST FRIEND(daddy) and my GUIDE THROUGH LIFE(W.C.PRITCHETT). Look forward to the day when we are together again. GOD BLESS ALL YOU FATHERS WHO HANG TOUGH AND STICK WITH IT!!! Thanks for the video Jamel, and the LORD'S BLESSING be upon you!!!
I’ve seen the clip you showed at the beginning, explaining the writing of this song. Such a great story. The other song you mentioned is “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton, another of my all time favorites. He’s in the rock n roll hall of fame three times, as a solo artist, as a member of Derek and the Dominoes and as a member of Cream. Another country song I would recommend is “Believe” by Brooks and Dunn. It’ll get ya right in the feels!
I just found your channel and this song today. I have listened to Chris Stapleton several times, but have never listened to this song until just now. Thank you Jamel for reacting to it. The tears came in hard and quick. My Dad died in 2007 and still miss him terribly. Thank you and keep those reactions coming!
Brother, organize something to bring us all together to talk about various music genres & how music is a thread of life. Love your reactions. Peace & blessings from NJ.
Thanks for keeping your reactions clean. I’ve tried to listen to several others and they can’t finish a sentence without an expletive. It’s nice just to be able to hear your reaction. I hadn’t heard this one either. Beautiful. Love Chris and Morgan.
My dad was my best friend. I miss him daily. He was so trustworthy, you could tell him anything or any secret and it didn't go anywhere else. In spite of all my chaos, he still loved me through it all.
It may sound crazy but I've thought Chris and his music is Gods gift to the world. His music makes me feel closer to my mother who passed two years ago. She just loved Chris's music.
I just heard this song on the show "Yellowstone". It started out the show with this song and it instantly grabbed me. I had to find out who sang it! So powerful and the harmonica just brings you right there into the song! Beautiful!
this song her makes me think about my dad. he just past away on june 11 and he and I have talked about why didn't prey as much as he used to. basically rn this song is giving me a good cry lol
I'm glad that Mickey Raphael on harmonica seems to have added another singer-songwriter to join, and I don't think he's left Willie Nelson entirely. There's another video which describes a similar process for WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO. His ability to tell a good story - fiction or one from personal experience - means he's likely to be around for a good long time, giving us enjoyment.
Thank you Jamel .. nice work .. yeah cant listen to Chris and not feel what he is saying … truly a blessing in my life , as a musician of over 40 years Chris is the kind of talent that only comes around once in a generation .. in fact in his case once in a lifetime cause we wont be hearing anyone ever who sounds like him .. I mean I can impersonate and sound like just about anyone but Chris is another story. thanks for the vid I am new subscriber tc J
First, don't stop listening to rap, just be more selective about what you consider good rap. Same with country music, not much of it that I like but what I like, it has a message and is delivered by great voices. Second, I have heard a lot of Chris, as I truly enjoy his talent, as a hard rock fan, mostly because most of his stuff is more like the blues, the basis fro hard rock. I had not heard this before and I must admit, it shook me a bit, as someone who just buried my father a few months back.
I like songs that tell a story. 3 that come to mind: 1952 Vincent Black Lightening (covered by the Del McCurey Band); Copperhead Road by Steve Earle; and The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzerald by Gordon Lightfoot.
I love this song because you don't get a lot of songs like this where they sing about a father's faith and how they pray for you. There are a lot of songs about your mom like that but not your dad.
The song in the commercial "she wonders what close to wear" is from "Wonderful Tonight" written by Eric Clapton while angry that his then wife Patty Boyd Harrison was making him late to a party.
If you like his more country sound the steeldrivers is the way to go. It's labeled as bluegrass but that bc they have a banjo and a steel guitar. I saw someone earlier in the comments suggested "blue side of the mountain" but as a way to test if you'll like the style I'd suggest "if it hadn't been for love" he doesn't flex his vocal muscles too much on the song but it tells an interesting story
I love all music but have a soft spot for raw music that has not been over 'processed'. Chris has narrowed my choices even more. Makes me realize how shallow and greedy most music and musicians have become. I pick more meaningful choices and artists who truly feel their craft now. Life's to short to waste listening to manufactured talents and filling the pockets of the big promoters of it. Music should leave you thinking or feeling you've experienced something, not just noise to blot out your life.
Thanks for the response:) I did not mean that all music must be profound but it shouldn't be repetitive and mindless garble or a social media rant put to music. Once you reach 15-16 you need more 'meat' with your potato's.... :-o
SO FUNNY, "I'M NEVER LISTENING TO RAP MUSIC AGAIN" I'm addicted to Chris Stapleton and it's all because I just happened to watch a reaction video one night of Tennessee whiskey...its ALL YOUR FAULT!! Wow so this is what real music sounds like. Unreal talent.
We Kentuckians sure are proud of this ole boy!!! Love me some Chris !
This man has a gift. Thank you so very much for playing this with him. ❤️💕🔥🔥🔥🔥🙏
Love the song, love the reaction, and love you brother who's better looking than I inside and out, and I love our Lord Jesus Christ.
I'm so glad you reacted to the back story. I'm 70 and was raised by a strong quiet godly man and I miss him

I kept expecting to hear that thumb plucking bass notes until you'd find 'right ones' for the song's key.
Yeah I have in my Playlist on Chris Check it out👍🏾
Before his performance of Tennessee Whiskey at Farmaid, he introduces the band in song. Mickey is there playing and it’s amazing!
