    Did you just call HUSNG's a "low variance form of poker"? OK...

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад

      Yes believe it or not husng's are one of the lowest variance forms of poker. It's all relative and there is certainly still a lot of variance in husng's. But it's low compared to most other formats, such as MTTs, 6max, cash games and spin and goes. Less players creates less variance.

    • @thiagomagnini338
      @thiagomagnini338 6 лет назад

      Wouldn't be so certain about it being less high variance than cash (even 6 max cash for that matter). I do agree that they may be of lower variance than MTT's and Spin and goes.
      It also depends on what the speed is. If you're playing regular HUSNG's it might be a little bit more reasonable, but Turbos (to some extent) and hypers tend to be a straight up shovefest most of the time. Of course, you can have a certain amount of edge in them if you adjust your P/F ranges correctly, but even when you're profitable variance is still gonna play a HUUUGE part in them

    • @TimeHandler
      @TimeHandler 6 лет назад

      heads up pays 50% of the players in the game but it will only ever pay them 2x their money..... low ROI usually because of the fact you will mainly be playing turbo/hyper turbo meaning the edge is very small.... meaning the variance will be very high.... double or nothing would be low variance because you can gain a 10% edge with relative ease on many tables.... on heads up to play with a 4% edge (winning 52% of games), lets say the site takes 3% rake on a game... you only make 1%... meaning you will make $1 on a $100 heads up on average.... then the problem becomes getting enough $100 games that are not impossible to beat the rake in..... can you get 100 of these games a day? maybe across multiple sites, but you would need a lot of cash already to handle swings of the 100 dollar games, and would be better off investing it elsewhere, unless for some reason you ONLY want to play heads up, which wouldn't be very professional. Really good pros use their playing ability where-ever the highest hourly rate they know of is, even if it means mixing fifty50s on stars with mtts on party poker, all at the same time as playing a particularly soft cash game or two.... whatever pays the bills.... In 2018 though, good luck making a living off the game, its really hard and you need a lot of cash, or actual talent.

    • @razersedge2k974
      @razersedge2k974 5 лет назад

      @@AdamCarmichaelchannel Not even close....HU is probably the highest variance out of any other game except MTTS. Cash games are probably the lowest variance 9max, but 6max isn't too bad either.

    People forgot to say that there dad gave them there 50k starring role for passing your uni course! I’m from the real poker world where I grinded from 1-2c to winning Sunday majors for $40k in 3 years been broke 400 times as every mtt player online who isn’t staked has! Played with the best players on earth and beat them now I got about £4 to my name cos my bankroll managements so bad! But still living the matt dream!

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад +1

      Haha I was certainly not handed a 50k starting roll. I finished uni with $30k of student debt and I started out with $400 to play poker which I saved working a part time job. The MTT world you're from has a lot more swings for sure, I specialised in heads-up sit and goes in which I had a consistently good win rate over a 6 year period playing the highest stakes in that format. You are right in the fact that if you don't have good bankroll management you will never have much to show for it, almost regardless of how much your earn.

    Don’t see how the travelling all over the world had any part of the poker journey as during this time you mention losing and going broke time and time again...also don’t see how playing online poker in Portugal or Bali would be any different from playing in your nans conservatory?
    The final part had me bemused the most....so you got crushed at most stakes but when you finally got in the big games with the big players you suddenly won everything and money that could last you a lifetime...then you made the decision to quit immediately after finally winning big money???
    Sounds like a very odd story...I would be more susceptible to believing it if you told me where or what websites you made the big money or actually showed legitimate profit graphs that could be found online with your poker alias.

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад +3

      Hey Kirk, thanks for taking the time to comment. This video was intended to talk about my journey through poker. I thought travelling the world was pretty relevant as I have spent the majority of the last 6 years living in different places whilst playing poker. As I started out playing the lowest stakes in the games, there were obviously tough periods when I tried to move up buy-ins and lacked the skill level to beat those games at first. Maybe I highlighted too many of the bad times, as I was one of the best winning players at almost every buy-in I played whilst moving up. I played $200/$300 games for 2 years from 2013-14 for example and was the highest volume player/one of the biggest winners at that level. By the time I started playing $1000 heads-up sit and goes, I had already made a considerable amount of money through poker and had a very good skill level at my format. It was still a risky move that almost backfired, but I was able to earn 3x what I was previously earning playing at the high stakes level. I didn't 'quit immediately' as you put it, as I spent 2 years playing 60 hour weeks at the $1ks from 2015-2017 which allowed me to achieve all my financial goals and weigh up what I wanted to do with my life going forward. I played under the poker alias "adamc1988" on Pokerstars from 2011-2017 if you want to do some digging. Thanks again for the feedback, even though you weren't exactly singing my praises, I do appreciate you making the effort to comment and I'll take your criticisms onboard for future videos :)

    • @salimajahimha
      @salimajahimha 6 лет назад +2

      Adam Carmichael Did not mean to be over critical but maybe you did over do it on the amount of times you said you lost or went bust instead going into more detail about the times you won.
      As a consumer who was looking for advice or training I would want you to send me links e.g on poker pro labs or something that actually shows your overall profit. I did try to look yesterday and can see some graphs but everything else seems to just say zero unless you register.
      As I said don’t want to come across as too critical but from my point of view and maybe others would just want to see hard evidence of your winnings as would give me more confidence. Thanks

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад +5

      Hey maxmaxmax29, I wish you the best of luck on your poker journey. To get very good at poker you need to treat it like a professional. This means having set grinding hours, daily study sessions and looking after your mind and body through exercises, diet and meditation. You need to absorb all the information you can from forums, reading articles, conversations with better players, training sites, coaches, mentors and anyone who has achieved what you set out to achieve. You need a lot of self awareness to be constantly evaluating your weaknesses and working on improvements. Each day you should be getting better and making small steps towards your bigger goals. Work hard, trust in the process and you can make your dreams a reality :)

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад +1

      Good question Manol. I got lucky in this respect and started poker with some of my uni friends so didn't have to search for players to live with. The best way is to network and become a part of the poker community at the stakes you play. Find the forums on 2+2 and the Facebook groups where people actively engage on these topics. Obviously it depends on where you want to live, what stakes you are playing and what your personality is so that you gel with the guys you live with. Where are you from and would you like to move somewhere different to live with other poker players? Feel free to join my free Facebook group using the link in the description and ask the question in there. I have 500+ players from around the world in there and I'm sure many would be happy to help :)

    Never did I hear you mention the word "bankroll", let alone, "bankroll management". Did you ever wonder why you went broke so many times?
    You do realize there is variance in poker? It is also hard as fuck and it will drive you insane, it is not the get rich quick scheme you thought it was. That is why you are not a "professional" or "high stakes pro", and you are now searching for another source of income. Do us all a favor and leave the poker world, get a real job- it is clear you do not have what it takes to beat the games, as it takes studying and learning- this is not 2005. Anyone can call themselves a "high stakes professional", they do not have to be winning in order to do so, thanks for reinforcing this belief of mine.
    BTW, not respect for anyone who grinds HUSNG against only fish, if you were actually good at the game then you would isolate fish heads up in order to make a living. Good luck coaching people to do whatever the fuck without any real experience whatsoever.

    • @AdamCarmichaelchannel
      @AdamCarmichaelchannel  6 лет назад +2

      Talk about going in! I feel a lot of pain in your message and I have empathy for you. I'm guessing you've had dreams of making it as a poker player yourself which never worked out and has left some painful scars. As for myself, I played HUSNGs professionally for 6 years (2011-2017...not 2005) at the highest stakes in that format and I'm just sharing my story. I hope one day you will be in a position to help others to, keep your head up :)
