Roy Dean talks about jiu jitsu like a MD talks about medicine, so precise and masterful
I see two men who are humble enough to ask for help and are practicing the art of learning from a very good representative of Jiu Jitsu , there belt is irrelevant and it's probably there school, why find fault ,Roy Dean is a true gentleman show some respect he would not waste his time on these two guys if they were not honorable people ,keep training .
enter the bjj mats, put the white belt. the end.
@@ogarcao I do agree, however this looks like their dojo, so it's probably not bjj mats
I always hear black belts saying that their real learning started when they got the black belt. Humility, respect, and self improvement are things we should all aspire to. Big props to these Aikido guys for doing all of the above. And Roy Dean is such a great instructor. Learned so much watching this video. Thank you!
Roy Dean is by far one of the best instructors in the world.
Yeah, him and John Danaher.
I like seeing Roy in this conversational, improvised lesson setting. He's genuinely an extremely skilled teacher
I agree and an extremely badass competitor too back in the day
There is a big difference of breath between someone who often free roll and undergo pressure testing and who doesn't or never do at all. That is the purpose of free roll, to apply everything you learn in theory in real condition. Excellent Roy Dean
I enjoyed watching Professor Dean cross train the two Aikido instructors. If they incorporate Jujitsu in their training it will explain the ability as martial arts instructors. Roy also is a Aikido instructor as well. He's a true mixed martial artist. I look forward to seeing him explain and promote his skills and experience with other martial artist.
Coach AL
I rarely comment on anything I see. To open your dojo, humble yourself and then post areas you are working on as a martial artist, defines the word humility. I see others address their rank. Rank is based on their discipline and time. What is concerning to me is the arrogance that follows practitioners of any style. It is dominating BJJ at the moment. Most who study find that it is the love of "doing" Martial arts that quiets arrogance.
Quietly walk the trail ... don't look at your neighbor and judge him. You are both on the same path. That is what the study of art is about.
I respect these two individuals seeking wisdom and "doing" the work that is required to walk this path.
Roy Dean is amazing! Love watching him teach!
Thank you for posting this, I really enjoyed watching it. Please post more!!
Roy you are such a amazing professor. So patient willing to teach with pure heart. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! My respect for the two guys' training went up with time. I could not figure out why they were wearing black belts training BJJ, and then I realized they were at their school where they are instructors and class was starting soon. This video was great and I am now a big fan.
Thank you again Mr. Dean for sharing your valuable knowledge.
Roy Dean
I’ve watched you over the years from when you got your Black from teach Jujitsu to the Jujitsu Community and now you expanded to teach to others martial arts as well.
Your ability to break down step by step in bit size increments is impressive tactical illustrations that we all learn . Thank you for doing your park to share Jujitsu will the martial arts community.
Coach Al
So much help. Thank you @roydean and your team.
This is gold.
Roy dean. A true master
Tnx for the fantastic lesson. Greetings from the Netherlands
Great video. Very helpful... thanks for all you do.
Roy Dean is awesome
Great stuff, thanks.
Roy, you have such a clean technique and humble style.
Wie immer die Beste...Oss
Roy Dean is a Vulcan in the jiu jitsu universe!
Roy, you operate like an Assassin always hit your mark!
26:43 I love it
Roy "mmHMMMM" Dean. Love the videos!
Fantastic session here. Also important to note that it highlights how deficient aikido alone can be. Always assuming that someone will run circles around your arm means you never learn basic standup throws against some resistance or striking. You need it all in addition to solid basics or understanding of concepts on the ground.
Amazing 👏
Very helpful thankyou
Please post more! Rolling videos are awesome too
Love seeing the mutual respect here 🙏
Very Good.
Massage that opening Roy.
I appears that the two black belts clearly aren’t Jujitsu Black Belts. It’s good to see Roy Dean spreading Jujitsu to other martial arts .
Nice harai-goshi at the end!
Akido blackbelts...So really this is Roy Dean doing a private for two BJJ whitebelts right??
Ok make sense. Soon as he said he couldn't get out of a grape vine I'm like wtf. I'ma a white belt and I know what to do
Yeah makes sense neither one seemed too confident in mount
I guess they're as good as any if they pay 🤣
@@ronthemogul yup i was wondering how come a black belt was not able to get out of that
oooh now it makes sense
Genius
more belt demostration please
The two white belts are black belts in Aikido. See the Aikido banner in the background?
You Are the best máster tour tenido Is perfect anda ver y good
Yer man’s Gi sleeve is at his elbow
"Okay, guys. This is what's called an oil check. Get over here..."
Man, this doesnt seem very private. It’s on the internet 😂😂😂
我喜歡你的技術 非常好👍
What do you mean
If I cross trained in Aikido, I would wear whatever belt a new Aikido student would wear.
Not criticizing really.
Just seems more appropriate.
He's in their school so I think it's fine. I would say that if they went to his school and wore their belts it could be misconstrued.
phoenixamaranth It wouldn't matter as Roy is a black belt in Aikido as well.
What arts are they black belt in?
Aikido
Who else is looking at that collar like a good choke
You know what now that I had chance to look at this he might not which I think he is not a bjj black belt. He might be in some type of jj or some other art that just add bits and pieces of bjj to the art because its incomplete. That may explain why he dont have the basics of Gracie bjj.
What art is their black belt from?
judo it looks like
+Sam Rogers I think it's Japanese jiu-jitsu, there's a video of them rolling before.
I would say traditional Japanese jiu jitsu.
I thought it was Aikido.
Yep it's Aikido
If I go into a school of any other martial art, I'm not wearing my jiujitsu black belt. Doesn't seem right. But I guess that's just me.
17:45 they tango
Is it weird seeing black belts learning this
These are not BJJ black belts. It’s either aikido or Japanese Jiu Jitsu
For that Uchimata, it looks too tight and and the hand placements look wrong to me: I don't like where the left hand is at. Remember Uchimata is a lifting throw. How can you lift him when you are pulling him down?
There's a "sloppy" version of Uchimata which is taught which is more of a leg sweep than a lifting throw with the leg being used mainly as a counterbalance. Plus, he's teaching a BJJ seminar here, so some Judo throws need to be modified to work in BJJ since you want to land on the ground on top of your opponent in a position of control more so than in Judo since an ippon doesn't end the fight in BJJ.
@@killersalmon4359 That Uchimata is Illegal in Judo...
You can instantly tell that they trains different discipline just from the gi, much thinner and more similar to a Kenpo Karate gi as opposed to a BJJ or judo gi. Additionally, they clearly did not earn their black belts in a ground art, considering one of them is still exclusively grape vining and the other has no idea how to escape. I’d love to see them show some Aikido to Roy Dean for some just general fun.
Roy Dean is good, but why are these guys wearing black belts? Come on!
Read some other comments and it makes sense they have Aikido black belts.
They're Aikido black belts. I think this video is the result of a seminar that Roy Dean taught at their Aikido class on BJJ, on how to link BJJ and Aikido (there's another video up where he shows how to go from an Aikido throw to a BJJ choke on the ground). Here, it looks like he's just giving them a private lesson on pure BJJ.
The guy at the end has some experience in Jujitsu but clearly not black belt status. In private training BJJ it looks odd to see a black belt learning fundamentals.
They're most likely Aikido black belts. I was confused at first too, wondering why black belts couldn't escape Grapevines into a Trap and Roll, and connecting it to an Elbow Escape. Then I saw the aikido background and it was like oooohhhh. Also if you look at their Gis, they are very different from the standard BJJ Gi that you see Roy wearing
XgamersXdimensions I thought so. But what baffled me is not the belts. Its having Bjj experiance. They clearly have it that's why he made the statement that hr always has problems with escaping the grapevine. So he attends training they just decided to where belts from another art. So I was just wandering why didnt they bring the belts they train bjj in. That's all. I just thought it was still quite odd.
Actually, we do not train formally in BJJ, so we are wearing our Aikido belts. This lesson was held at the Aikido dojo in Chicago where I hosted professor Dean for a cross-training seminar.
Aikido Agatsu Cross training to add to your formal training of Aikido Hmmmm okay that's better clarified. As a formal trainer I can tell you that you picked one among the best. I'm sure you know that but if you are aiming to retain the information and be able to implemented into your self defense repertoire private lessons or some form of formal training is necessary to remain sharp because Bjj is not a stand still art its constantly evolving. What you may use to day won't be as efficient 5 years from now especially against a formal trainer and you'll be surprised how people that don't formally train learn just by watching RUclips or UFC fights. That's if you want to stay sharp. But to each his own
+Aikido Agatsu Roy actually has some really good escape stuff from Mount on his YT channel, you might be interested in checking it out.
What's with jujitsu dudes and their soul patches?
Only white belts comments like they got belt obsession.
those students should be wearing a white belt not black.
them 2 are in their own aikido school, they are black belts in aikido and just had roy come and teach them some BJJ stuff
