What are the benefits of a barrel colony? New to gamefowl and trying to learn. Thinking of building a colony. Not having good luck with barrels and tie cords. Owls are wiping me out. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Central Oklahoma located. Thanks

they're good short term pens if in a shaded area but long term I wouldn't advise. Sorry to hear about the owls, If you are using barrels try to make doors on them and lock your birds in the barrels at night. Or, I guess you could put the birds in the barrel colony overnight and put them back on cord during the day

Hey what do you think about using 5 gallon buckets for bantams, would it be to small?

I would consider them perfect for nest boxes, but too small for housing. On the up side, you could probably put a pair of bantams in each barrel comfortably
