What Sarah Said is one of the most gorgeous songs ever written in my humble opinion. I can't put into numbers how many times I've heard this song with misty eyes. Wait, I can: every single time I played it.
Outdated comment on 4 yr old video but I wanted to say this.. I first heard DCFC going thru a bad breakup almost 20 years ago now (time flies).. the song "Soul Meets Body" was a nonstop go to for a long time.. I've seen DCFC live several times, mostly b4 Chris Walla left the band and once after. Ben Gibbard is an extraordinarily talented and multi-versatile musician and song writer. I honestly thought after Chris Walla left over different opinions about the Kintsugi album that Death Cabs best days were behind them. I liked Chris and watching him play a guitar and work the board or play keys all at once during shows was watching a true master. Absolutely incredible. That said, DCFC lives on thanks to Ben and his genius. The latest LP from last year, "Asphalt Meadows", is rich with the Indie bass riffs we all love. That said, the song, "Pepper", is my favorite from that album and Ben's vocals are on point. What an incredible song writer. See ya in DC in September Ben! P.S. If any of you found this 4 year old video and thought audio quality is questionable you're not wrong. They're way better live. not sure what happened 😕
I was offered a spare ticket to see these guys recently and I took it, despite knowing absolutely none of their songs. I was blown away by their pure songwriting talent and musicianship, not to mention the seductive and mesmerising stage lighting. I now have a new favourite band. DCFC are simply incredible.
Took my wife to see them at this show. They've been her favorite band since high school (about 10-12 years), and this was her first time finally seeing them live. It was never my favorite music to listen to when we were in her car, but it never bothered me. After seeing them live, now I'm a fan too! This was an EXCELLENT show! Not only was it a joy for me to see my wife so happy, but I really enjoyed myself too! Fantastic sound, and very unique lighting. I can't wait to take her to see them again someday! And I'm thrilled to have this show recorded for us to watch again. I'm glad to say that Death Camp for Crunchie made a new fan out of me!
Billson Gilberts Thee old, ive been a fan longer comment. The, their first album is the best, or, I’ve been a fan since xx and it’s good to see them getting popular comments. You are so cool man.
i remember going to see Pedro the Lion somewhere in LA waaaaaaay back in the mid 90s. the singer came out and said, "hey we met these guys in Seattle and we really liked their music so we invited them to come on tour with us...they're called Death Cab for Cutie." we liked them.
The first time I heard them live was life changing. Death Cab had been my favorite band for years and finally in October of 2018 in Dallas I saw them live (and at the very front about 10 feet from the stage); I was entranced the whole show, my wife (who isn't a fan) said watching me sing and cheer and smile through the whole show brought her just as much joy as she thought I was feeling. I felt like I was on a cloud when Transatlanticism, tears streamed down my face and I was just in absolute bliss. I love this band so much and cannot wait to see them again, you can bet I will be at every show in my area for as long as they grace us with playing.
Felt every word of this :)) Could not agree more. I'm simply giddy and entranced at their live shows, and almost always cry haha. DCFC has such a special place in our hearts and cannot wait to see them live again and again and again.
Phenomenal, this metal head loves these guys, glad I discovered them by accident about 4 years ago, I was searching for new death metal bands, and there they were, I was hooked, I mean one can't go 100 miles an hour all the time, sometimes we gotta hit cruise control roll down the windows and enjoy , smell the flowers. Pit stops in life in a positive way. Thanks Death Cab. Forever on my playlist. Here's my go to bands in no particular order. Slayer, Pantera, Exodus, Napalm Death, Motorhead, Cro mags, Hatebreed, Death Cab for Cutie, also by good mistake Brian Jones town massacre, yes they had me at massacre lol
This setlist is truly incredible but watching him sing 60 & punk was worth watching this whole thing. How Ben sings that song is very honest and real. Death cab has been one of my favorite bands since Transatlanticism and through the evolution of their music they have truly found a way to be ever changing while still holding true to the roots that we all love. I still miss the old stuff and Chris Walla but this was amazing to watch.
First time I heard/saw DC was the video for Soul Meets Body I remember really liking it Then heard Possess Your Heart on the radio Then Equinox Then the final straw Follow You into the Dark It was then I FINALLY decided this band needed a deeper dive! I was hooked! In my not so humble opinion I truly believed these guys were the best band Alternative or otherwise to come along since R.E.M. Maybe the best in the modern era I've always been drawn to intellectual songwriting and they still have that market cornered Still have not seen them live But I will! Thanks for this video!
I'm amazed at all the negative and critical comments... especially regarding the vocal mic sound. You all do realize that this was a live stream? It's not a concert DVD with post production. Live sound mix rarely translates well to live streaming. I don't care what band it is. I can almost guarantee you this sounded really great in that room and the "plosive" stuff wasn't as much of an issue. I think given the fact it was live streamed, it sounds pretty good. It's just funny how easily we throw around public negativity and criticism these days just because there's a "comment section". Geesh.
One of the many things I love about this live is how Ben's energy here is giving the original tones of the songs a more optimistic twist. Like the studio versions (which I love) are melancholy, and here they sound more lighthearted and uplifting (which I also love). In a way it teaches you about perspective, like there's two ways to look at a sad song. And depending on your headspace, it gives you options for which version you're gonna listen to
I saw DCFC in Chicago the next night, they played the entire Transatlanticism Album. So good, I went to see them in Indy two months later. Thank you The Current for freezing in time this amazing performance. Might have to go see them in Louisville.
I just want to give a HUGE shout out to Jason McGerr for those amazing drums on Transatlanticism. It's one of those songs that has so much depth that you would think it wouldn't translate well in a concert setting. I was pleasantly blown away. It almost brought tears to my eyes.
UPDATE: My 15 year old also likes DCFC, so he and I went to the concert in Seattle a couple days ago. Totally unprompted by me, he said "Wow, that drummer was awesome, I wanna start learning to play" (The drums I bought him TWO years ago have been collecting dust in the corner of his room). Side note: By the end of the concert he also said he wasn't feeling well. I figured it was because we were standing next to the speakers and the bass was vibrating us the whole time. After a while I started to get a little green myself. Turns out it wasn't the speakers. He had to have an emergency appendectomy last night.
I discovered Death Cab in 2007 when I was 13 at a record store that does not exist anymore in my hometown. The precocious child in me was intrigued by the bleak undertone of Death Cab's lyrics. Fast forward 13 years later, I still cry listening to their songs. As you get older, with all the disillusionment of how you thought life would be and how it ended up being, Death Cab lyrics hit you different. To some extent, I feel understood. Less alone. Maybe life is supposed to be this way. It's been my dream to watch Death Cab live, but too bad I live in Indonesia and as it happens to be, not a lot of people know about Death Cab. Maybe in some other lifetime.
I couldn't agree with you more. DCFC just puts my mind and heart on rewind and all the 'what ifs' start playing through my mind. My son introduced me to their music when he was in middle school. He's 30 now and we still talk about and share DCFC discoveries. This concert being one of them!
I was lucky enough to have seen Death Cab for Cutie live back when I was in college. My school would do a yearly concert towards the end of the year. My freshman year was Blink 182, and the next year was Death Cab. They are honestly one of the most underrated bands out there.
Just saw them a couple hours ago in Atlanta. They spent a long time sound-checking, came on and nailed it. Wonderful show. He let us sing a verse of I will follow you into the Dark, he looked at us like, "you got that, sounded good". Kind of Choir, Choir! meets Death Cab. Fabulous band that has a devoted following in ATL.
Absolutely love Pictures in an Exhibition (especially this live version). Chorus reminds me a lot of Nirvana, which is why I love the song even more. Cool!
First show I ever saw was DCfC in Tulsa at The Brady Theater in '09 with Ra Ra Riot and Cold War Kids opening. Saw them again a few weeks later at the Ryman in Nashville, then again at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville with Frightened Rabbit opening. Amazing all 3 times. So much respect for Ben as a songwriter. He's one of the best to ever do it, IMO. They'll always be one of favorite bands!
Seen them 3 times live and something surreal about it , the live instruments , the people around you all singing in harmony , feels like you in a room with all your friends
As I listened to this in the middle of the night, I have tears falling down from my eyes. It was so nostalgic and beautiful. I feel like I was there watching the concert. DCFC has been my favorite band since high school and it's my dream to see them sing live one day. Thank you for this video 🥺
My word of advice..See them in an indoor venue..They are playing at The Sylvee in Madison this fall. That will be an amazing show.i saw them at Summerfest in Milwaukee a month ago. Like I've told my friends, If they would have had Marshall Tucker Band's sound system, that concert would've been a 9.5.
@@douglaswilke8582 I'm sorry for the late reply. But thank you so much for taking your time to leave a comment and for sharing your experience. And yes, an indoor venue will definitely be a great place to see them live. Unfortunately, I live pretty far away, but for now I will save up to travel and see them someday ^^
yes me and my wife were there too and i agree the live set was amazing, most especially how they treated their final song transatlanticism. i remember ben telling the berkeley crowd to be kind to each other, in a most sincere way. major props to dcfc!
Saw them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley with my girlfriend. It was her first time seeing them, and it was my second time. They are so great live, best band I've seen in concert. Anyone else feel that tingling sensation from your head to your spine when you hear great music?
Absolutely love that stations like The Current live stream tour performances. You really get a sense of the energy, not too far off from seeing them live. Minute Markers: 45:00 I Will Possess Your Heart & 102:30 Black Sun (My two personal favorite DC4C songs!) Thanks guys!
Planned a vacation to Florida from Ohio to see them in St Augustine, a birthday present for my love who introduced me to Death Cab for Cutie by playing the song "I Will Possess Your Love" for me. They did "Autumn Love" as part of their encore that night.
This just happened and I missed it! My all time favorite band, out of all genres, I listen to everything but country. They have no bad songs/albums out, and none of their stuff gets old! Great vid, Cheers!
The one big thing DC4C is missing is that well produced live show on RUclips. Coldplayish....cameras, sound, etc. These songs like Summer Years deserve it. This is a nice raw video.
I don't know how I missed this before. I really enjoyed Ben's Live from home videos he posted during CoVid. Sometime in the not too far off future we shall see DCFC live again I am hoping.
Seeing them on Monday night at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Seen them twice before and they never disappoint. Great to see a preview before the actual show.

This just happened and I missed it! My all time favorite band, out of all genres, I listen to everything but country. They have no bad songs/albums out, and none of their stuff gets old! Great vid, Cheers!
Ottimo gruppo, buona musica. Continuate così
The one big thing DC4C is missing is that well produced live show on RUclips. Coldplayish....cameras, sound, etc. These songs like Summer Years deserve it. This is a nice raw video.
Soul meets body, what a great live song!!
I don't know how I missed this before. I really enjoyed Ben's Live from home videos he posted during CoVid. Sometime in the not too far off future we shall see DCFC live again I am hoping.
this band gave a great concer ty
I Will Possess Your Heart... and my heart will go on for this great Band
Seeing them on Monday night at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Seen them twice before and they never disappoint. Great to see a preview before the actual show.
Can't believe this much is still around.
Hah! Here's the daily dose. Great shots, great mix, looks and sounds phenomenal! When you can't get enough of BenGib

Wish they would have done this set in Chicago! What a great set list.
