nice to hear someone associate more complex emotions with keys/modes than just "sad" and "happy". i've always been interested in subtle expressions of fear, frustration, despair, shame, resignation etc.
Dorian and Mixolydian and such are NOT keys. They are modes. The only 2 types of keys are: - Major keys and - Minor keys. I understand that this video is for beginners who are trying to learn some songwriting tips from RUclips and all that, but this part of this video is misinformation that will lead people to misunderstanding this part of music theory in the long term if not corrected now. I hope this helps, and I hope everybody have a nice day!
Bit confused. When you show the chord progression in c major and c minor, you go from 4 to 5 to 1. When you show it in C mixolydian, you go 4 to 1 to 5. When you show it in Dorian and Blues, you go 1 to 4 to 1. Wouldn't it at least make sense, if you're going to go from F to G to C in major, to go to F7 to G7 to C7 in blues? Would appreciate help from anyone. Thanks
+Consolous Complete agreement here, I'm always looking for something new and different to create, and lesser used ways usually are the only ones I have passion for
North Guitar True, I love to think outside the box in my music and not limit myself to what radio wants. Although you might want a few that are radio friendly to be noticed, you should be able to grow on as a musician on the other songs.
however their producer George Martin knew TONS of music theory and heavily compensated Beatles ' lack of knowledge, guiding them; so yeah, learn your music theory if you want your music not sound like crap

Please press the "caps lock" key
On the different 5 keys which genre would you say that comes to mind!?
There isn't Lydian. Could you teach us choosing the best KEY?
G Major, Dm, E Lydian, B Mixolydian, C Aeolian and so on. what will do?
+Maro Angel songwriters rarely use Lydian.
+sammy reynolds Better reason to use it and have a unique sound.
lots of people use Lydian in rock. Steve Vai, Satriani, Paul Gilbert

He reminds me of Mike from Breaking Bad
dude sounds just like alan alda
key colors = modes
It’s kind of funny the Beatles didn’t know much music theory, but a BERKLEE instructor used them as an example!
Why is that funny?
however their producer George Martin knew TONS of music theory and heavily compensated Beatles ' lack of knowledge, guiding them; so yeah, learn your music theory if you want your music not sound like crap
Music theory describes the mechanism of music. It applies whether someone knows it or not.
I don't think the Beatles would of had a clue what the mixolidian was when they wrote that song
Charlie G maybe not in name, but they still chose the chords that reflected the emotion they were trying to convey, so it's really a moot point.
Really, do you think that the Beatles knew about the Mixolydian mode ?
Perhaps not, but the employed it.
