Hells Froze Over

- Had to run out towards the overlook on Hells Revenge Trail to repair a control arm bracket on a Toyota truck. When we got there it was raining and beginning to snow. Everything was wet and shortly we were soaked. We couldn't just pick it up and carry the vehicle out with the axle not being tied in I was worried about causing further damage to the shocks. So we stuck to welding it together but with the water came the fun of dealing with electricity in the rain. This is the day I got sick and why in the last couple videos my voice sounded rough. Anyway, we finally got it together and the customer showed up to drive it out. We helped him on a couple hills, but it drove out and onto the trailer under its own power. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

Half way though this video I realized there aren’t too many real men who can or would do what you do. You are one rugged dude Rory and that goes for your crew also.
Bunch of hard workin rockpeckers. 😁😂👍✌️
@@lestaylor3641 yup as my 99 year old mother use to say “ they ain’t no lazy a$$e$”
I jumped on here in the comments section to say something of the same effect, but you pretty much summed it up. 👊
@Fuzzy Knuckle you must be crazy!
@Fuzzy Knuckle lol, had to pollute this channel with your stupid politics huh?
The talent on display here. The Best offroad wrecker design. The best offroad driver. The best offroad mechanics. The best offroad camera work. Calm attitude. Again I say it, the King and his men at work again!
Took the words from my mouth... I would also add the hardest working, most fun-having, underrated talent on youtube.
By far better than Matt's off road recovery
All of these guys are good. No need to put down Matt, Robby or Paul. They all have their weaknesses and strengths. All of them do great work and have great videos.
They are the best at wrecking but if one of them thought about putting covers on the wet seats they would be warm best wreckers😆😆😆😆😆
Matt wins on weather sealed cab
Be an off-road recovery guy they said - it'll be easy they said. Yeah, right. Thanks for showing the unglamorous side of this and thanks for all you do for the stranded people and their vehicles!
Damn that was terrible conditions, thumbs up to Mike for walking in the rain for killer footage.
The sign of a sensible man, "walking away and taking a breather" a true achievement to recover that truck.👍 Thanks guys a very real world video.
Rory, you always impress! With the crazy landscape you work in, you & Trail Mater take it all in stride... The BOSS of Moab!
Good to see you giving the underside of Trail Mater a solid cleaning on the way in. Tough one there, great job!
I have welded since 1968. I much prefer stick over mig welding anytime. I worked in the Seattle area in a sawmill as a mill right for about 25 years. I have welded in bad weather, gotten shocked just like you in this video, but I don't think I have ever welded in conditions any worse than this video, my hat is off to you my friend.
Ah... winter operations. I feel your pain. Water falling from the sky makes everything a pain. Walking away for a breather can help a lot. You regrouped and got it to drive out. A testament to your professionalism and drive. Two guys getting the job done. Thanks for taking us along.
Neither rain , sleet ,or snow will stop Rory and TrailMater, Great video,Thumbs Up, Wouldnt mis any of it
I’m sitting in my living room and I can almost feel that cold to the bone feeling you guys are experiencing on this one.
I’ve been electrocuted a couple times just because I was to lazy to go to the panel box, but never been shocked by electricity that will melt steel. Can’t imagine why you would be in a bad mood.
News flash, the power in your panel box is what powers welders and 100% capable of melting steel.
It'll make you invent some new curse words. Especially when it hits you so hard you can taste copper.
Whoever made this call for this rescue. Called the right person.
I commented prior to the off road wrecker Olympics.
This video proves it will be boys amongst men.
The others will be fighting for second.
Great job and keep up the good work.
Great Recovery/Repairs on the Toyota Rory!
Miserable. Cold conditions, but you got it done and didn’t have to tow it out! Great job Rory and Mike! 🤙😎
Mad respect on going out and doing that job in that condition. That’s the kind of day where you just would rather stay in the garage and dink around doing nothing important.
Great job guys
New definition for Slick Rock! Trail Mater is AWESOME, once AGAIN! Matt should just give you the trophy! Where are your doors for Mater? GREAT JOB!
The trailmater team is amazing. Crap conditions and don't give up. Get the customer out and safe! You guys ROCK!!
Cool. quite literally. First time I’ve ever seen the trail traversed in the “wet n wild” mode. You guys are tough as snot ! 👍👍
Nothing better that a plate full of bacon and a cup of trail mater in the morning ....🤣🤣
this rescue just shows what amazing people you guys are. The views were still amazing as always. Hope you all got dry and warmed up soon. Excellent trail fix and assisting the rig to get off the trail safely.
And so the recovery orchestra goes on never missing a note or beat
Calmness personified hats off to you and your team for doing such harmonic recoveries irrespective of the weather peace and blessings
First time I’ve seen Rory a tiny weeny bit fed up. But persevered in the rain, snow and streams.
At least laying under the vehicle it acted like an umbrella ☂️
Great job Rory and co.
Great job, well done. I hate working out in the cold and wet, with hands exposed. Sorry, I can only give one thumbs up. As much as I enjoy Matt, there is a lot of difference recovering from, stuck in sand, to recovering broken rock crawlers. Apples and oranges. Trailmater for the win.
That was a fantastic recovery. Who else would come out in this kind of weather. Rory and team are not fair weather riders.
Nice work on getting the stranded dudes out of that mess. I've had 2 tow truck drivers that wouldn't even load me up on a rollback on the highway when it was raining because they didn't want to get wet. Keep up the good work. Would love to be able to wheel out there in that terrain. All we have here in PA is sloppy sticky mud trails through the woods.
Wow it's a whole different place when it's raining! I wish you would have a tarp in your truck so you don't have to lay in the wet 🥺
When you get electrified like that it brought back some memories from my past as a pipe welder for a refinery.
Makes ya get fired up lol.
Mike and Rory this was a recovery to remember.
I was feeling cold when you were on the main road. No doors. No back glass. No heat at all. Add rain to the mix.
Good fix.
That was hard work in the rain and cold …..respect to you Rory 👏🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Days like this no amount of beautiful scenery is going to make it better. Great video guys. 🙂👍
Hi Rory, Mike, I thought Trail Mater had everything it needs for recovery! You don’t even have a hot chocolate making machine or a coffee making one - Unbelievable, buck up guys. Having got cold on the way out and then getting rained on didn’t help at all especially with a wet back, front and all over. Cold is bad enough, cold and wet is a nightmare. Kudos to you for sticking it out. Stay safe and stay awesome.
Oh the joy of stick welding in the rain. The feeling of electricity passing through your arms to ground is such a thrill, NOT! You are definitely a die hard. Great job as always!😀👍
The bad thing with welding with the JK is not having the hoist to lift with for mor room to work. Warmer while getting there, not as user friendly. Great video as usual. You guys are very hard workers.
At least Rory keeps it 100, and he don't feel the need to lie-n-cover for a foreign auto-maker,👍, you guys are awesome, thanks for sharing.
#1 DRIVER will not leave anyone behind that's why You are #1Driver!
Amazing display of true grit & get it done. I want you on my team when the world comes to an end! 😊
Dang 3 links will get you every time! Good job on that craptastic weather day!
Thanks Mike for the good angles and overall filming !
Appreciate the footage...
Wow there’s something about watching the tires go through the chocolate milk that’s super satisfying, nice camera work.
Nothing but skill and determination here
0:55 sums it up beautifully. Wet, cold and grey day and you guys are excited to get to work. 😅
As an electrician for 54 years, a person only gets electrocuted once. Then they are dead, since that is the definition of electrocution. A person can get shocked, as I did throughout my career, without getting electrocuted, hopefully. It is amazing what you are doing with those vehicles. Keep up the good work. Entirely different from Matt, on Matt's offroad recovery. The offroad enthusiasts in your area don't know how lucky they are to have someone with your skills and equipment to call on as needed.
Your attitude is always so positive. I’m looking at the mud, how cold it is, the water nothing good about that situation.
Neither rain or snow nor mud and sand keeps Rory from completing the task at hand.
Great job as always guys, thanks for bringing us along.
thanks for showing us the other side of recovery when it's not sunshine, lollipops and unicorn clouds. Epic and professional as always. Maybe it wasn't
in the video, but carrying a steel wire brush on a grinder and hitting the area where you're gonna weld will make wonders. Not to mention....those 7018 rods hate water
and humidity.
I'm surprised Mike didn't go " Hey....I'm gonna ride in the customer's truck to get a different perspective". Code for getting warm. Those conditions were just
horrid.👍
What a miserable trail repair. I got cold just watching this. I can only imagine the words that were said off camera. 🙂 In the end you completed your recovery. Great Job Rory. Mike, I’m equally impressed with your skill set. Keep the videos coming please. Your my favorite channel. MORR is second.
Man that was some gangster shhhhhh! Good stuff Rory!
Great trail fix. Bit rough to execute but got it done.
Mike got some great shots!
Hey Rory & Mike !!! Think I would have soaked up the seats in ""OL"" blue for that ride as you still got soaked anyways !! 🤔🤔 Anyhows ,, You did an outstanding job of getting the Customer out of there in 1 piece !! Bet you fired up the furnace in the Shop when you got back for sure !!! 🙃😉😊👍👍👍👍👍
You guys are awesome. It great to see such talent being used for good. Thanks for giving me motivation to keep my dreams alive.
An awesome video as always. I love your rescue Truck, If they ever did a remake of Mad Max they would want to borrow your rig for their film shoot! Take care and carry on Sir!
It aint allways roses. A+ for sticking to it & getting it towed out.
Geeze. That is hard core. Everybody out there needs to weld in the rain just once to appreciate what you just did there! Not fun or enjoyable for sure. Cheers!
Just total experience there Rory.
Have you considered the cheapest, thinnest plastic tarp you can find with some paracord and the big nail looking tent stakes to create a temporary shed over parts of the rigs in conditions like this recovery? If there is space on the truck to carry it. Think of the tarp as a one time use thing if the price is low enough and bill the customer as materials used. Nice job on the recovery.
Been there before Rory, when the job has to be done you do it!! Get shocked while welding is no joke for those that never have...😎 The way you navigate Hell's Revenge regardless the weather is impressive!!!😃
The wet seats in Ol Blue seems trivial at this point ... LOL Great video you guys Rock !!!!
What a miserable, dangerous recovery but as usual Rory and Mike had a plan and you got the job done.
You need to call PRP and get some heated seats with removable cushions. You can pull the bottom cushion out when it is wet and the heaters work amazing!
Working in the cold is tough. My dad had an auto repair garage in Miami and if the temps got in the fifties he wouldn’t work, he was born and raised in Miami. He hated cold weather so the Army sent him to Germany in the late 1950’s. LOL
M12 heated jackets don’t have anything special other than a barrel plug to power them… I added an outlet on my motorcycle and use a coiled cord. I bet it’d work mint in the ‘Mater
Edit.
Y’all are incredible, insane, and the best at what you do.
Did Roary pull the needed park permit to build that coffer dam ? 😳 😉😁😅🤣🤣🤣
I feel for him laying in water welding. When I was younger helping build pipe fence, got lit up a few times.😉
Another fantastic job!!!! Shockingly good!!!!
Great recovery and AWESOME Channel boyz!!!🎸🎸🎸 NW Montana
Easy money ,easy repair ,its dry out ,no rain or snow hear ,virtual welding i don't feel electricity at all ,.LOL All other locals can't touch this an were wise enough to stay home. Good job Rory crew ,I am experienced under water welder ,with rods treated with resin to prevent shorting an electrical current flow but the Rory is not in a dry diving suit an helmet. Your a lot better than i am ,good job ,good video.
Hope you are warming up now great job and true patience thru adversity pays the bills you are priceless bud great job!!!
You are the most dedicated person( and the guy with you is the second) thank you for the ride.
Great video stay dry my friend and God bless you all
Another fine job!!!
"I want to do off-road recovery too because it is so easy" 🤣🤣🤣
I really felt your pain in this one sir. This reminded me of a twisted up drive shaft in a ton and a quarter dodge. Old Army 'five quarter' in Grafenwohr, Germany horrible winter mud and snow.
Looks like a "jolting" good time! Keep up the good work gentleman! Cheers to you guys! 👏😆
Not sure what you charged for that recovery - but whatever it was, it should have been double. An excellent display of getting the job done no matter what.
Shes stayin nice and cleanish!
Wow, that sucked. You guys were so professional to stick at it and complete the job in atrocious conditions.
Conditions have to be pretty lousy for Rory not to be his normal chipper self. I've spent my time in the cold/wet. Taught skiing for years and years, and 37 and rain/snow was the coldest I ever was. Miserable. Totally understand not being our normal smiling Rory!
Paul and Matt are going to need every trick they have come the tow truck Olympics. I like all of you guys but if I was a betting man Id have to put my money on you Rory.
All of it and everything I could beg borrow or steal
"...but, the seats are soaking wet, because we left the windows down." LMAO...
Probably a good thing you had the helmet on to hide your hair going straight out when getting lifted while welding. It is never fun working in the cold, wet rain or snow. I have been lifted while stick welding a time or two, not a pleasant feeling. Some really good shots from Mike again. Thanks for sharing.
If you have to freeze & get soken wet... you get to charge tripple! It's a Thing! LOL
Rory and Mike y'all did a Awesome job and Rory I'm sorry that you got shocked a few times but I'm glad you are okay and you're a Awesome guy Rory getting out there in that crazy weather
Extra watch, like and comment!👀✔👍
Rory, you're a real trooper!!!
"So easy i wana do offroad recovery too" ! lol. feel your pain .
The novelty wears off real quick!
Thanks for keeping people and there
Crap safe. Moab is nothing without you. And remember telling people no can be the safest thing. Positive attitude . And detail Dan appreciates what u do for the moab internet 4x4 community. I thought u were a good dude before the you tube exploited the crap outta u and your ability! Please don't sell out. Remember your roots!
So much better that the other guy's when it comes to actual real recovery videos.
Shocking you got that Toy out!!
When I hear Rory laughing on the trail, that's when I feel like maybe I should buckle up. Hahahaha...yikes!
I did well drilling for quite a while welding casing together laying in the mud. Sorry you had to go to that brother! 🙃
Left the windows down and the seats on the blue wrecker were wet. Bummer dude. Sometimes one just has to embrace the suck. Way to tough it out to get the job done.
Rory made the comment his hot chocolate was gone. Mater has everything else, except the heater and doors. What about a coffee maker or microwave for hot chocolate? He's got the cooler! 😁😁
Nicely Done Tough Guy!!! See below.
You Forgotten to place a rain suit in the tool box. Had to be real cold laying in frozen water. A hot cup of coffee will feel real good.
How many would actually go out into the middle of nowhere and get down in the mud/snow/rain and do welding? Obviously Rory and his trail mater team will do what they have to to assist folks. Yet another great video. Great job.
Today, while I'm at work and silently bitching about how cold it's gotten - hopefully I'll remember this video of you lying on your back soaked to the bone and getting repeatedly zapped with an arc welder. New expression'll be:
"Yeah, this sucks - - but it's not Hells Froze Over sucks!"
Thank you for sharing this and giving me a new perspective to gauge things against this winter! Ha!
👊👊👊👊👊
Awesome recovery Rory,Mike
Wow, what a video you guys definitely earned your money on that one!! thanks for making that. Sorry you were so miserable.
If this is the storm I think it was, it was a pretty cold and miserable day in Moab! Was not expecting to get snowed on in Canyonlands, but still had a great trip (that fortunately did not require help from your shop)!
Enough to piss off the Good Humor Man. I swapped a transfer case in the middle of New River once. (We built a coffer dam while one guy went to town to get a spare xfer case.) That was bad enough. Welding in a running waterway is not something I care to emulate!
