    Hey! Could you elaborate a little on how beneficial post MBA opportunities would be in the next 2 years, given the COVID-19 situation ? Especially if one is going overseas from India

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад +4

      To a large extent the opportunities will depend on how the economy bounces back in the country you graduate from. Larger, stronger economies are expected to bounce back faster given the resources at their disposal. The biggest impact has been on current students who're already facing the brunt of it. The expectations is that things will be better for the coming batch since they have 2 more years. But these are all theories for now.

    Hello, I have 4.5 years of work experience(IT) and looking for a business management programme. Currently I hold an offer from University of Auckland for MIM(business).
    Should I consider MBA in India after preparing for Cat or should I take this MIM course, considering the prospects and networking opportunities it would provide me in Auckland?

      With the experience you have, you've already crossed the stage whether either of those 2 options will add value. both are meant for freshers or folks with under 2 years of experience. Why not aim for a mainstream GMAT MBA?

    Hi Sameer ,
    How do you think MBA would be affected in China ,considering the current scenario ? Do you think people would change preferences of their universities in China?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад +2

      Fear is a very powerful emotion. Based on the current sentiments, it seems like many international candidates will not be too inclined to go there. However, as the situation changes back to what it was earlier, the number of international students may increase gradually.

    My undergrad college has tied up with Coursera for free certificates across the board. I graduated in 2018, still, the college has offered me the access.
    If I put in the hours and and get around 5-10 of those certificates within brands like Pennsylvania, London Business School, IE, Urbana Champaign, I've enrolled and started brand management, marketing analytics and a few others, do all of these really make a difference in front of the recruiter later on alongwith my MBA? As in talking points based off of these certificates leading to reasonably increased chances of employment given that the certificate is relevant to the profile I've applied for and carries an LBS, IE, Pennsylvania etc tag.
    Basically the query is on how should I go about this, what's the upper limit for these certificates before going overboard and anything else that I should be aware of that I'm missing out, Sir......

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      It a good gesture from your college to offer this to students and alumni. It's like fully paid buffet. And just as you would in a buffet, be selective in what you'd want to add to your plate. If you genuinely feel any of those courses will help you with what you plan to do, then go ahead with it. But don't do it to impress adcoms. There are already too many folks waving such certifications on LinkedIn, just because they're easy and cheap to get. And adcoms know that these short courses aren't very selective and rigorous.

    Hey Sameer,
    Hope you're keeping well during these unprecedented times. Im reaching out to you for some advice regarding going to a grad school this September. Due to the current circumstances, is it a smart thing to consider going this year? Since you're a consultant, what's the vibe you're getting from the aspirants who are on the same boat as I'm? Thank you in advance for taking the time!
    Regards
    Akshay

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      It sure is a tough and confusing time, Akshay. Whether it's a smart decision or not is for the candidate to decide, based on their personal priorities and appetite for risk. But here's what we've been seeing on the admissions consulting front. While a lot of candidates are still on the fence, a few have already started working with us on their essays. This is quite unusual, since the traditional approach is to first get a test score before moving on to the application work. But here's the logic behind flipping the order. It's going to take a while for the test centers to open. And for those who're clear about applying, delaying the application work till the last moment wouldn't be a good idea. So they're switching the process, to complete the essay work earlier and then focus on GMAT. As long as you're clear about the school choice, and the score doesn't deviate too much from your expectations, the application content isn't dependent on the GMAT / GRE score. And you'd still be ready with a strong application before Round 1 deadlines. Sounds logical?

I have a bcom hons grad degree from St Xavier's College Kolkata with ~63% marks. Prior to that I secured 94% in +2 and 10gpa in 10th. Please suggest if I should give GMAT or cat. And in case I do give GMAT and secure 720+ marks, will I have a chance to get into any of the top 10-15 colleges?

      Considering your experience level, it's too late for CAT programs. Sure they won't stop you from applying, but you'll be an outlier. Your profile is closer to GMAT programs. We don't comment on chances based on the limited information you've shared. But as a general input, your GMAT score (while important) won't alone be the game changer. We have a video coming out this week on how to get into the top MBA programs. Keep an eye out for that.

What are the best MBA options do I have for leadership programs in Banking and Finance sector? I have had taken some virtual GMAT tests and scoring around 580 with about 10-15 days preparation. Maybe with 3 months of prep I can improve on that. Also I don't have deep pockets. Maybe can afford Upto 25L without financial aid or scholarships. Apart from that I am willing to do part time job to support the course. Let me know. Thanks.

      Considering your experience, one year MBA programs would be a better fit compared to 2-year options. The opportunity cost for those is also lower. However, the budget you have in mind would be too low. Most applicants finance their MBA using a combination of savings, scholarships and loans. The GMAT score could surely use a big spike to get above the average scores for your target programs.

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      Professional growth is also quite a subjective term, so you'll have to get more specific. Here are 3 ways to do that.
      1. Are you looking for a change of role, industry or geography (like most full timers do)? In that case, it is not a good fit.
      2. If you're looking for a skills upgrade that'll give you a better overview of areas that you currently aren't aware of, it would help.
      3. The third type of growth is within the same company. This would again depend on whether your HR dept recognises it and will give you credit for taking it up.
      Which of these 3 did you have in mind?
      Another important thing to keep in mind is that PGPMAX is not the flagship product for ISB, like the PGP. So the market awareness wouldn't be comparable.

    • @jitendrasuryawanshi8911
      @jitendrasuryawanshi8911 4 года назад

PGPMAX was to get into good paying job of choice which iam struggling to get. When applied to pgpmax they expected my application. But want to Double sure before spending 40 lacs .kindly guild me . @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      Thanks for clarifying. They might have sounded enthusiastic about having you onboard, but that's mainly driven by their own interest. From what you've shared, doesn't seem like it'll be the best vehicle for you to get to where you want to be. It'll be better to hold on to those funds in your savings account rather than part with them with no guarantees on the other side. Do you agree, or is there another perspective that we may have missed out?

    I have been working for a broking firm since July 2015 for sales(mutual funds mainly) and trading part
    never changed the job because it was in my comfort zone...and later I started preparing for CFA exams
    so it was easy for me to prepare for exam with the current employer.
    now I want to get into asset management, consulting, M&D deals or Portfolio management.
    mainly don't want to do sales and get ahead in life and also Indian employers want to me to do MBA before getting into any MNC
    i will be appearing for my CFA level 3 exam coming December(June exam shifted to December coz of the pandemic situation)
    what exam should I target for, CAT or GMAT?
    for GMAT I am confused about which country to select.
    mainly preferring Canada, Australia or Germany(i know the language problem but my real sister lives there)
    I have done B.Com(Hons) (65%) 2014
    Post Gradute Diploma In Marketing Management (72%)2015
    both from Panjab university
    sir plz help me with the decision

      Good to see that you've already read our blogs. You're right. There's a growing interest among experienced professionals to get a reputed international degree not just to put a tick mark on their bucket list, but also to open up new opportunities given the glass ceiling they've hit. The challenge is that there aren't too many good options at this stage. Have you checked our our article the Sloan Fellows program? It's full time, offered by top-notch bschools and attracts students with 15+ years of experience. Would that be of interest?

    I have 5.5 years of work-ex and a further gap of 3.5 years (civil service prep). What are my MBA options? Should I only consider a full-time MBA for executives program? And does my gap preclude the better universities around the world?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      While bschools allow for applicants to explain the gap, it's unusual for candidates from other countries to have 3+ yrs. You do have the option of using the optional essay, make sure it doesn't end up purely as an excuse. Use the rest of the application to highlight the fact that the gap doesn't reflect the 'real' you. Show them how you've done better than your peers in the last 5.5. years. Do you have any programs on the list?

    • @MBACrystalBall
      @MBACrystalBall  4 года назад

      Considering the age and experience mismatch, the longer you delay it, the lesser the value of the degree. A high GMAT score is always good to have, but we can't use apples to compensate for oranges. Think about who you'd be competing with, and what you can do to get at the same level, if not higher. The gap will be there, no matter what we do, from this point onwards. Point is, do we keep worrying about what's not in control, or accept it as a limitation and move on to what we still control. Would you agree?

    • @prashanthjohnpulikal8592

Consider my responses in the context that most KGP grads who work with us aim for a different league of programs. Things get a little iffy with the others, as you may already know. Also, in the worst case scenario if you have to return home, the brand recall among local recruiters wouldn't be very high.
