  • Recently we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in a cultural exploration at Aligarh Muslim University, where we joined a group of students for iftar. Our aim was to witness how fasting students, far from home, arrange their iftar during Ramzan.
To start our day, Ayan, a geology student, led us on a brief tour of the campus, providing insights into university life. Following this, we ventured to the fruit market accompanied by a few others. Here, we purchased an assortment of fruits including papaya, apples, oranges, bananas, and grapes. Fruits play a crucial role in Iftar, offering hydration, natural sugars and essential nutrients to replenish energy levels after a day of fasting.
Continuing our culinary journey, we reached Medical Road accompanied by Ayan, Mir and others. We wanted to get some fried delicacies, along with rooh afza and shawarma. Shawarma, in particular, has emerged as a favored choice among the local youth for Iftar. The fire shawarma at the popular shawarma point was quite interesting.
Upon our return to campus, we collectively arranged our spread on the lawn, each of us contributing to the setup. Sharing in the communal iftar experience with the spirited youngsters filled our hearts with great joy. These cherished moments underscored the beauty of cultural exchange and the unifying force of food in fostering connections.
