I was lucky enough to purchase tickets to this entire run at the Lunt-Fontainne Theatre (early and late shows included), on the 1st night (10-15) Bill Graham gave out plastic felt covered black "Top Hats" to the audience and asked everyone to hide them under their seats until the last song and then after a great show the audience then "Tipped their hats" to Jerry on Broadway, it was a trip for the audience and a sight to see for Jerry and the band to witness 1200 - 1500 audience members with top hats bowing, clapping and lighting up lighters in a joyous celebration. The Jerry "Magician" poster with Jerry Garcia conjuring his guitar out of a top hat still hangs on my wall today. Jurassic Blueberries

Great shows. The first show, first time I walked into that theater I saw how small the place was and thought, Oh Yeeaaahhh!!! Shmokin'? It was beyond smoke, it was.....beyond the beyond. It was a true blessing to have been there. Definitely some of the best shows I've ever been to. And then there are the electric sets Being here was like winning the lottery. Maybe better. No, surely better, cash comes and then it goes and goes and goes, these shows will always be with me.

This acoustic show is quintessential proof that the band was guided by a higher power...the first time I heard this was on an 11 song press called JGB
" 4 finger bag "....and over the course of next 10 years played it as loud as I could in every campgtound, hotel, and parking lot that I could. There are rare occasions in the observation of art and energy where some of the observers can feel the root of the sound or light waves that were created in that moment. So to those of transcendence, carry on....
    Now the nitty gritty.....Bluegrass....yes.
To the father, Mr.Bill Monroe, Lester and Earl Flatt, Sonny Osborne ....they took the anceint folk notes that found there way from Scotalnd ,Ireland, Europe, and so on....that transformed through the craggy river bottoms in the Allheganny, Blue Ridge, Smokey Mountain settlements....but what I think trully spawned its rebirth was thre great depression and the stories of Woody Guthrie and rest of the great story tellers from that era that we'll never know the names of. ALL of these men are furthermore the fathers of thus music, without them we wouldn't have such a historical and brilliant recording.
And its fucking GRRRREAT to finally have the rest of it!!!!!
To my ears ....the old and in the way recordings are about the only thing on this level. Yes we have the Garcia/ Kahn and the Garcia/Grissman records . Oregon state pennetentiary and the solo Jerry acoustic sets.....But the Braodway tapes are a full band and thats what sets these tapes apart.

But I remember! this movie theatre wz showing 'Caligula', like 24/7, non-stop. He invited this chick up the fire escape to smoke a jay & wz thinking he's gonna get a piece......ALL she wanted wz to listen to the shows, as the side doors were open lmao sure can't say I blame her.

I wz a bit harsh myself...I wz, "What!!!". lmao and then all I could think of wz a show at The Meadowlands. Long to short, the person I wz with met old travelling friends, (Alaska, Germany[alas, not I ] ) and they dosed his drink w/out him knowing. He told me he woke up on the race track, to the sound of the bugle, starting the horse race. ( I'm laughing so hard, I can't type this). On the other hand, Jerry did get his start as a banjo player on the blue grass and folk circuit. I think he wears this music pretty well. I feel like I could be hearing this music in the hills of North Carolina. Clapton, by contrast, sounds a little stiff on the old time stuff.

its so hard for me these days to hear Eric play....(unless it's from the 60's)...with Cream or Blind Faith....the ONLY time he has ever sounded really great to me....Now he is sounding so predictable and just downright BORING......I think it's because he is really not that cool of a person......when I heard him talk about how he hates Muslims and Black people etc etc ....etc........complaining that he feels like they are "taking over" his blessed England .....he sounds like an old fuddy duddy who never took LSD or even smoked weed in his life......So his slack sounding playing reflects his dry personality.....To make great art ...REALLY GREAT ART.....you must first be a REALLY GREAT PERSON.....(not an asshole)....True beauty comes from within.......
