- Maurice Ravel's "Cinq melodies populaires grecques" beautifully sung by Thomas Allen beautifully accompanied by Malcolm Martineau
1. Chanson de la mariée
2. Là-bas, vers l'église
3. Quel Galant m'est comparable
4. Chanson des cueilleuses de lentisques
5. Tout gai!
Munich, 6 July 2003
I heard these songs with Thomas Allen and Warren Jones during their tour (@Vocal Arts Society in Washington, DC) and it was one of the most stunning parts of his recital.
Brings sunshine to the heart!
You wouldn't think of this as a set of songs for baritone... It works surprisingly well!
It was written for a middle voice, so a baritone is perfection!
Yes, it is Wigmore Hall - I think it was a rehearsal for their recital there which was then issued on the Wigmore Hall Live label a few years ago.
The venue of the recital in the recording was Prinzregententheater but I don't have any pictures from there (and I wanted to have both Allen and Martineau)
And yes, I'll send them to you when I'm back home (I'm away at the moment)
@117mathieu I'm glad to hear that (sorry about replying in English. My French is totally passive).
@3tristan Glad you like them!
Malcolm Martineau is first rate.
Fantastic (as usual...it is Thomas Allen and Malcolm Martineau we're hearing here!)...and lovely pictures too. Never seen them before! I think the venue's Wigmore Hall, right? Could I trouble you just a little bit to send them to me? =)
Belle diction. Peut-être trop d'effets. Mais Thomas Allen est un immense baryton qui chante avec intelligence et avec une technique "au top".
every time i listen to the "cueilleuses des lentisques", i just want to cry. it's so beautiful, and here rendered so gorgeously by both artists. thank you for sharing this.
Hmm, it doesn't seem to me he had a cold that evening. Maybe it's the quality of the recording that makes you think that?
You can only hear his cold once, in #3 , but this comment is from a seasoned singer and someone who feels like she knows his voice well, hearing him live so many times.
:-)))
Cold-y?
