I keep hearing "What are the schools going to do about it?" and "The teachers are overwhelmed and undertrained" . We need to be asking "What are the parents going to do about it?" and it does not all fall on the teachers, parents are overwhelmed and untrained too! Schools and school districts cannot control the environment some of these students go home too. The way these students are acting in school stems from what they see in their homes and in their communities. We have taken the power and control away from teachers and given it to the kids........and this is a result of that. Parents want teachers and district leaders to step up, but when a school does discipline a student or restrain an out of control student they are scrutinized for it! And we hear parents screaming "don't put your hands on my baby!" and "don't yell at my baby!" You can't have it both ways. I do feel bad for the students who come to school ready to learn and for the involved parents who send their children to school to learn and be respectful! Parents you need to do better and for those of you parents that are doing right by your children, keep up the great job, your child's teacher thanks you for it!
Well said! The root of a child’s behavior starts in their home. The primary overseer of a child is their parent or guardian. King Rick wants more funding for security funneled into MPS?! No sir, you need to encourage the parents of these students to take accountability of their children.
This happens daily.
