It’s amazing to see that it wasn’t that long ago that the post office and telephone exchanges were basically being run manually without automated switchboards and optical scanners.
When Grafton St wasn’t blocked off. We were frugal Irish and our family had fun just to go to Brown Thomas’s on Grafton to look at all the expensive items and not buy. The days of a highly valued UK£ and IRE£. Belfast was so much more affluent than Dublin , now the opposite is true. My grandparents in Clare had a party phone line with 5 other houses, it was like the Third World.
