Some great insights here, and impartial analysis with cogent metaphors as we've come to expect. My take-home is that everybody is right here. Lowko is right that he massively outplayed his opponent for 90% of the game, but then the protoss maxed and marched across to win, having not ventured out of his base until then. Reynor is right that late-game PvZ is IMBA and pays Lowko very nice compliments on his excellent play. But, sadly, Harstem is also correct that Lowko failed to notice the protoss composition, understandable at first, but not after a couple of failed attacks. I entirely understand this is because Lowko has been facing so many late-game skytoss armies, but to improve he has to have a composition that trades reasonably well with the opponent, and towards the end he did not have that. Perhaps Lowko could also have played according to the maxim, when you're ahead, get more ahead, by taking even more bases, building lots of static defense, and building up more of a bank, whilst continuing to scout the opponent, at least with run-bys, to check his composition. Tech-switching when you have a massive economic advantage is entirely fine, you can afford it.

i kinda get what you're saying here but at the end of the day this toss was never going to move out so what are you really supposed to do? the real kicker here is the difficulty required for protoss to win a game is incrementally less than what zerg and terrans have to do game in and game out. theres nothing that requires a lower skill cap to do and has the same level of strength than what this toss did right here. yeah it was stupid to attack into a choke multiple times and not use any casters but then again there shouldn't be any type of strat like what the toss was doing in the game in the first place. good players should be good because they actually have to do things that win games as in great macro, multitasking, etc. the way skytoss is currently set up it requires actually not a single bit of that. this sounds a lot like a diamond toss trying to defend himself that way blizz doesn't nerf his stupid fucking low skill cap strategy that would absolutely run his win rates into the gutter if taken out of the game. ^^^

It seems like he can make easier to implement improvements with being more flexible about army comp and positioning. With 17 bases, he had fair bit of money to build tech. @@superstaralen I mean is he wrong? Lowko attacked into a choke, with ultras, against immortals. Ultras are bad against either of those things, the two of them together and you get... well, the above game.
I agree man, honestly ultras need a buff, maybe extra dmg to buildings so they can be seen as assault unit that can take down buildings faster. Anything really.
They should have nerfed the Queen heal back when Heart of the Swarm came out. But Blizzard made a fanaticism out of "taking things slowly". Even the most obvious problems need 5 years to get addressed. I've made a balance mod... for myself. Just4fun. To the Ultras I did: - make the Ultras a bit smaller, so more than 2 can attack - added a 2nd chitinous thingy armor (whatever it is called) giving another +1 armor, bringing it to a total of +3. Back when LotV came out they buffed the upgrade to 4 armor, it was too strong, yeah, but more importantly WAAAAAAAY too quick. The general idea however might not be all that bad? We will never know. Blizzard is always implementing everything ultra-imbalanced and then wondering why it breaks. (They were doing nothing but wondering for 4 months during LotV beta, anyone remembers?) - tried to add a noob-button for the Ultra (but failed with that stupid editor), which made them not actually faster, but able to push own units. So they're not stuck behind a wall of Roaches. Fck Blizzard.
The one who plays best doesn't win, it's who makes critical mistakes who loses. The Protoss might not have been playing 'well' so to speak, but I don't think they made any outrageous mistakes either. Was there actually a need to be on the offensive here? Potential 10 bases vs 4, just box him in with lots of static defenses, keep harassing and starve him out.
I kind of agree with you, but the point is that Protoss can just sit in their base until they're maxed out and at that point Zerg can't do anything anymore so you HAVE to try to do something. It's just that you need to try the right thing, and having contained protoss like that, vipers would have been a better choice. Now if you couldn't contain the protoss it gets a lot dirtier...
The Protoss also gave a lot of time for Lowko to prepare. Headbutting with the wrong army composition in the same choke multiple time in a row is not the right move and you can't really blame balance when doing that lead to a loss. Sure dealing with turtly players isn't the most fun but that doesn't mean the game is imbalanced.
@@Fenpwet bro, you give serral this situation with how many upgrades, bases, and creep lowko had, he would never lose. Lowko was like a cat with 9 lives here, going into a gun fight with a knife. @@RenonTTV To be fair though, zerg bazooka sucks... Most of the times you go bazooka the other side has a friggin railgun so there's no point. As a zerg if the knife doesn't work, don't go bazooka, go with more knives. What Lowko was going for here is the economy war. You lose all your fights in the chokepoint, but your economy is a lot stronger, so if you can trade badly but take even a little bit every times, eventually you will outproduce them. If Serral and Reynor can do it doesn't mean everyone can. And Lowko is by no means a low level player. If Lowko can't do it then most people can't.

Hi Lowko. I’ve watched your videos every evening, so in my sideline perspective: Once toss is using immortals, revert back from ultras to lings for the following reasons: •The player would likely be tempted to waste psi storm energy on lings, directing storms away from hydras. •Immortals would waste their auto-attacks on lings. •12 lings per ultra in terms of minerals and saving you gas for hydra, infestor, and corruptor-In this match you had minerals to throw away in proportion to gas. •If not engaging in main battle, their mobility allows for run-bys to relocate slow toss army away from expansions, or better yet force the player to divide army across basses. •bane option if needed. Incentivize player to go back to more sky units and then transition back to ultra.

which is still an improvement from where they were, lol
I agree man, honestly ultras need a buff, maybe extra dmg to buildings so they can be seen as assault unit that can take down buildings faster. Anything really.
@@Ajion Im down with ultra buffs if they nerf queens...transfuse is the reason they nerfed them in the first place
@@cavemantero That is a good point. I agree. SC is always so delicate, when it comes to balance changes.
They should have nerfed the Queen heal back when Heart of the Swarm came out. But Blizzard made a fanaticism out of "taking things slowly". Even the most obvious problems need 5 years to get addressed.
I've made a balance mod... for myself. Just4fun. To the Ultras I did:
- make the Ultras a bit smaller, so more than 2 can attack
- added a 2nd chitinous thingy armor (whatever it is called) giving another +1 armor, bringing it to a total of +3. (They were doing nothing but wondering for 4 months during LotV beta, anyone remembers?)
- tried to add a noob-button for the Ultra (but failed with that stupid editor), which made them not actually faster, but able to push own units. So they're not stuck behind a wall of Roaches.
Fck Blizzard.
Instead of cool guys in Lord of the Rings its Lowko lol
I've played countless games like this against Protoss. You have to be so on point to win and your opponent doesn't even need to micro.
You guys are amazing, all the three of you! Thanks Lowko for your content
16:55 That analogy is a thing of beauty. :D
"It was 6 base vs 3, he is 70 supply behind me and 5 minutes later he won" that is how I feel playing protoss vs terran in brood war
i mean, finally someone admit that, i want my 700mmr back now.
I had a rough week at work, but this video was a blessing. Thank you both.
Edit: I feel your pain Lowko
This is an amazing video! Good to know that Protoss is officially IMBA!
How could the protoss make mistakes? He literally did nothinf the whole game lol
Just keeps getting blasted, comes back later, not with a bazooka that he could afford, but with another knife... over and over.
Ultras should be able to step on and squish smaller enemy units like Templar
Its funny that after this Reynor appearance about how imba Toss is, he got clean swept by a Toss (Zest) in Wardi tournament.
I love how defensive lowko is with harstem's critisism. Haha. Great video. I watch both of you and winter and it's nice to see good collabs. Everyone is banking on sc2 staying healthy. Dope video.
This was fantastic, thank you Lowko I love your content and remember watching this game. Being able to see things from Harstem's POV really helped me to see how theres moments where Sc2 can become like pool (scratching the 8 ball), but your playing was so commendable I couldn't help become tunnel visioned on the thought this game must be imbalanced with how clearly you outplayed your opponent. Very encouraging to see the room for growth, keep it up!
" but lowko , no no no, he's a fast man. He wants to finish things quick, my friend. He's bang, in and out. You didn't even notice he was there " LMAO !! This would also be gold on Eharmony.
How did nobody notice, that okwo is duran backwards :o
Entanglement is a Warcraft 3 ability that does exactly what Harstem showed with his hands
Why did I just watched this on Harstem's channel and again here?
Why did I enjoy it?
...
Good job guys! Great content!
Your opponent didn't do a play.
You played yo self
Fantastic episode. I did choke on my coffee. XD Keep it up! I don't even play Starcraft but enjoy watching your videos.
Heres Ollie with weather! "Its raining sideways" thanks ollie
I mean Harstem can dish out left and right but he sure also can take a beat
you kept suiciding your army into that choke :(
09:50 that is so silly i love it
Hi Lowko. I’ve watched your videos every evening, so in my sideline perspective: Once toss is using immortals, revert back from ultras to lings for the following reasons:
•The player would likely be tempted to waste psi storm energy on lings, directing storms away from hydras.
Incentivize player to go back to more sky units and then transition back to ultra.
lowko you should integrate that little upgrade info box hes using in the top right corner to exsplain the upgrades, for newer viewers thats really handy!
