    Trains are great and everything, but come here more and more for the accent. Remind me the old days when I worked in the UK and had a few SA colleagues :)

    I used to run h.o.scale when I was a kid...I love the larger engines..wonder how much they costs

    I'd say, even though a bit more of an investment, you get more value for your money with the larger scale. Look forward to your production video.

    Your stuff is quite nice and yes i see how the (basically "G" scale) size would not only allow but command some extra detailing!

      Thats true.....and the focus moves from scenery and electronics in HO scale to more being just running trains in larger scale. Nothing beats a 30m long model train.

    Incredible, do you only make steam/diesels? I would also like to see your passenger cars if you have some?

    er, cube that: 1/24 scale is 3.6 times as long as 1/87; but also 3.6 times the width and 3.6 times the height!
    3.6x3.6x3.6 -- _it's more than _*_46 times as large_*_ as H0_

    I'm sorry sir, I just came here, for the railtracks I can tell that it made by a brand, but for all those locomotives and freight cars did you build all of them from scratch?

    So the SAR HO models are scaled to 1:87 with 4mm wider wheelbase to suite the layouts and rolling stock etc?

      Hi Steven, yes. I have found and i might take flak for this, that a gauge discrepancy is very hard to spot. The connoisseur will pick it up. But in Africa 12mm gauge track is not common.

      Thanks for clarifying, it makes sense to go with the 87 scale to go with the coaches, tunnels and people already modelled.. working back from the 16mm gauge, the scale for 3ft6 would be closer to 1:70, which makes the loco's too large for the surroundings..
      It gets much worse still with modelling the 2ft stuff.. there you really need to make everything from scratch, as the scale comes to 1:37 for HO guage track..

    Can you explain how you create the realistic smoke?

    • @riekusvanderwesthuizen471
      @riekusvanderwesthuizen471  3 года назад

      I use ESU decoders and every sound file comes with a written in smoke map. I just tweak them to taste. I use USAT smokers. Heater coupled to Aux1 and Fan to Aux 2. From there I go into the actual sound file and write my new smoke map.

    I'm not too sure about "loving" HO scale. With no offense to any collector, I have seen this HO scale, N scale, all as being nothing but problems and issues. My thing is the VERY reliable O scale and even then I do 3 rail which is easy and detailed enough for my likings and the likings of SO many Lionel collectors and other o gauge trains.

      O scale is a lovely size. Not too big and large enough to show detail. As well as dynamic smoke in some of the MTH offerings and at a price that wont break the bank.
