While we were building our house we lived in a rental house that had a font load waster/dryer machine. It was very small, not a top brand and the dryer function was useless. We just stopped using the dryer and hung our laundry on a folding rack inside the house or out on the deck. How I wish that house had the powerful bathroom extractor fans that Usui shows us in every apartment!
Hi Usui-San, Thank you for answering our questions. This updated video allowed us to learn more about your micro apartment and living a minimal lifestyle. We all can learn to live with less personal belongings. I wish eating out was inexpensive in Honolulu, Hawaii (btw, hope you visit the islands one day). I will look forward to when you publish your book. It will always be a pleasure to support your channel and enjoy watching your next micro apartment adventures. Take Care, Larry
I think the only thing I would do differently if I had your space is to get an electric kettle, a mug, a bowl, and a spoon. Then I could have tea or coffee whenever I wanted, or make instant noodles and soups. I would also have to get one more storage bin for under the bed, so that I could have some books and journals, because I can't imagine not writing things on paper ☺
Don't compromise on your bed, Usui. If the bed you have right now is comfortable, don't change it. Changing to something that folds up but comes with a worse mattress isn't going to serve you in the long term. Of course, it's your personal preference as to what kind of bed you like. But don't change to a less comfortable bed. I absolutely love that you have Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in your emergency kit!
This is by far my favorite video on the internet. I'm so happy I stumbled upon it today! Also, I cannot imagine someone who makes a video this elaborate, with so much attention to detail, truly is lazy. Please don't call yourself lazy. Thank you for your hard work! Ganbatte on the book!
I would love to see a video detailing the emergency backpack, when it will be used, how, what items are in it etc. would be very interesting i think. Great video and i wish you all the success with your book!
Your absolutely wonderful sense of humour in the way you produce and present the video makes it so original, I loved watching what is probably , normally, the most boring and plain apartment I've ever seen. Yet you make it inspiring.
I would add length to the legs of the bed so there would be more storage space under the bed, and put shelves above the laundry machine. The extra storage will be for fridge, microwave, snacks (ice cream) and tea/coffee. I hope you get some compensation for the products you use. The toilet brush and electric razor are things I would buy.
I just spent a year living out of a suitcase and learned that less is more. Less stuff, less mess, less stress. I now have my stuff back and I don't need 90% of it. This video was so relaxing. I can see myself being very happy like this.
Thank you, Usui-san, for welcoming us into your home and for taking us along on your explorations of other micro apartments. I hope everything works out where you can publish your book - I would love to read it! Have a great day!
Thank you for showing all your clothes and the difference between winter- and summer clothes and answering my questions! I love learning about your minimalist lifestyle.
Your room is very efficient and probably set up just the way you like it. I really can’t imagine you living anywhere else with your minimalist outlook on life. Truly, do we really need everything we’re ’supposed’ to have? I admire the way you live. Thank you for showing your apartment again, I think you get a lot done here.❤
Thank goodness you're alright. Been worrying after long time of no upload. Always nice to watch your videos and reviews. A micro apartment life needs minimalism, inventiveness and diligence.
Usui San you are an inspiration for us ! I think you are a wise and insightful person. Minimalism is not easy for everyone in this materialistic society, especially knowing what you really need and what you don't. But you have struck the perfect balance, I really have a lot of respect for you.
We can learn from you. I already thought I was a minimalist, but you taught me with this video that I am far from that. One tip: You can use sticky removable hooks. They can even hold 5 kg, so you can hang up small racks with them if you want to store some books. I have never seen staple hooks before, but they might hurt the walls. The food was surprising too because usually they love to eat miso soup on a minimalist diet but you come up with a Hotdog which they call a MOS Burger. Thanks for sharing your perspective! It is inspiring to see how a single person does things differently.
IDEA!!!! YOU bring Murphy beds to Japan! Open up a store & sell them until you've made MILLIONS! With so many micro apartments you'd made a huge profit....as soon as the Japanese people see how wonderful they are!
This is a great idea! At the very least, a Murphy bed would allow you enough space to invite a friend to visit. That is the problem with micro apts and minimalist living. It doesn’t encourage gatherings. Sort of sad. 😕
Please don't give up this great Chanel. I just found it this month and have truly enjoyed watching many of the different rooms. You have to go on and do more. You have many subscribers that have taken awhile to get to this amount. I think that they would want you to continue showing all the different ones like you have been.
I really enjoyed this video. I’m a maximalist, have a large house with lots of things, some that I don’t need. I could live without most of it, but the true minimalist lifestyle is not something I would want to do. I would have to have my art, my books and my dog. You seem to have everything you need, and your community seems well set up for your lifestyle. As long as you are pleased with it, I applaud you.
I love the idea of these and was about to add them to my amazon list when I remembered that I have a septic tank at this home LOL. I’m quite sure I shouldn’t be flushing them (or the cleaning wipes).
"Soy un vago" lo que me he reído las veces que lo has dicho. Es bueno conocerse bien. Ya habíamos visto tu microapartamento pero esta vez ha sido más explícito. Thank you for this micro apartment tour and for showcasing some of the products. I'd love to see more of this type of dwelling in the U.S. Five or more of these units would probably fit in the same floor space as an average American home. It could be a solution to our housing affordability crisis. The only challenge I'd have is the kitchen because I like to cook at home, but otherwise, I think the space is very livable. I love Fumio Sasaki's ideas about the entire surrounding city as your personal living space. That was a new idea for me when I read his book...I feel it is the best book on minimalism that I've read. Currently I live off grid in the countryside in a small home, and I think of surrounding nature as my personal living space.
Thanks for the update on your apartment, I’ve watched your videos since the start of your channel and my favourite ones were always centred around your apartment. Thank you again, Usui-san!
Usui-san, you show us a lot of mico and mini apartments, but I must admit your apartment is probably one of the best. It may be small, but it has everything you need to live comfortably. It has a good design, plenty of light, and in a good location for your lifestyle.
That thing with the toilet paper in elementary school happened to me too! They stopped restocking it because some kids kept clogging the toilets with whole rolls of paper as a prank. Once they stopped stocking it in the restrooms, students then had to tell their teacher what "function" they needed to do, and you got a certain number of squares of toilet paper depending on whether it was "function 1" or "function 2." And often you were having this conversation in front of the WHOLE CLASS! It was so humiliating!
This tiny apartment is incredibly well-organized! It's amazing how all the necessities fit so perfectly. As a non-cook, I unplugged the fridge long ago, and I only use the stove to reheat some leftover. The nearby McDonald's and convenience store are great for quick meals. I may not be a minimalist, but I've simplified my belongings. I've read Fumio Sasaki's Goodbye Things and totally agree with his philosophy. Cannot wait for your book, good luck!
Hi Usui, this was a very enjoyable video. Thanks for taking the time to do a home tour. I must say - you have a great editing style 😊 Makes me think that your University lectures would also be enjoyable! I think your furnishings are spot on for the space. My only suggestion is to add a small plant for some greenery 😊

Thank you for taking the time to show your apartment. I like your apartment and the arrangement of furniture. I have lived in Europe, but never been to Japan and I am to old now to go. Again, thank you.
absolutely. I love the efficiency of this. Just what you need to be comfortable and no more. I would seriously consider something like this is I were younger. I could have saved so much more money in life. Sigh.😢
when i was studied in Japan, i was also living in a micro apartment in Hachioji, Tokyo. but lucky me, the cabinet is big that I can put my 2 big lugguages, a vacuum cleaner and of course, clothes! and the best is, there's a small balcony that I can dried my clothes after washing 😁😁 ahh, miss the moment living in Japan ne~~ 😌😌
You love your micro/minimalist space as it is and it seems to serve you perfectly. But I would prefer a small bedside table or cabinet with a drop leaf on its left side to serve as a desk. Then your lazy self would never have to fold and stow it under the bed. On that bedside stand, a table lamp could live. Warm, soft light might really enhance your feeling of well being and would be nice for reading books.
I would have a bunk bed with space underneath for a fridge and a freezer and cupboard. I would stock up on non-cook fruits and veg, plus pre-cooked meats, chicken and fish, etc. And maybe squeeze a narrow cupboard with hangers at the foot of the bed for seasonal clothes. 👍😁❣
Wow Usui!! You are a true minimalist. No wonder your apartment works so well for you. I do see your toilet paper shelf is well stocked 🙂. Very nice place and you have a very good system set up that keeps your tiny space clutter free. Can't beat that rent either.
I would definitely want something bigger, because I love my stuff. I also only go to the store once a week and cook food at home. But you do you. It makes you happy.
I wouldn't change anything about the layout of your apartment. It's suitable based on your needs and lifestyle. I would, however, add a small headboard at the head of your bed for the accidental head bumps towards the wall. 😂😅 BTW, I'd love to purchase your book when you release it. 🎉
Hello, Usui - Thank you for sharing your home! This video was very entertaining and pleasant to watch. Your home is very nice. You have made exceptional use of every square inch! Thank you -
I think, your apartment got the perfect size and floor planing. All the necessities are having their place and it still doesn't look crammed. You really mastered living a minimalistic life. Thank you very much for showing us. Wish you all the best.
this was a wonderful peek further into your life. very interested to hear why you chose to live minimally when you're ready to tell the story :) great video, thank you !
I'm always fascinated by your micro-apartment videos. Although my physical health means I couldn't function in a space that small, I love seeing how we can make our lives and spaces simpler. Thank-you for sharing more about your lifestyle and outlook.
Usui-san I am once again in awe of your extremely minimalist lifestyle and apartment. Knowing everything you own to this degree is commendable ☺️ I love watching your videos and if you ever end up publishing your book, I would love to read it.
I am fascinated by your minimalism, smart lifestyle, very exemplary. It requires a lot of discipline and deprivation, but is certainly liberating. Greetings from Austria!
Thank you for sharing! Lol my two pairs of shoes are Asics as well.....but not the same color as yours 😂🤣 Since I'm on my feet my whole shift at work they have been the most comfortable for me. 😊
One of my bed sitters in London in the 90s had an awesome double Murphy bed. Very comfortable, but the downside was that the metal frame amplified the sound of underground trains below! 😂
I could for sure live like this!! The apartment is so well planned out and efficient. I live in a dorm right now with my own room and bathroom, but I'm sharing a kitchen with the rest of the corridor. My living space is maybe twice as big, but having your own cooking station AND A WASHING MACHINE?! Is SO worth it! 😮❤️ Would take that apartment in a heartbeat 😊
I always wondered where do you keep your clothes! And now I have the answer. I son't think a micro apartment life it's for me as I love to cook and have nice tableware but I love to see how other people live. The only thing missing to your house in my opinion is a plant friend to keep you company! Thanks for the tour! Also luckily you chose the bed cause i can't imagine sleeping in a hammok or folding bed every night is good for your back
Wow! I would complete it with the following: - coffee machine - kettle (for tea) - mug - cutlery - 2 wine glasses - pictures on the wall - little fridge (could be placed on the washing machine) And I would choose a smaller chair and a smaller washing machine with a built-in-construct (for the reason that it looks nice).
Personally Ms Nicole I would get rid of the coffee machine and just keep the kettle because you can use it for anything that needs some boiling hot water
When I visited Japan I really loved the way the cities are built for people walking and bicycling. Small, narrow streets set up with few 'through roads' so the only cars around belonged to the people who live on that street, are visiting there, or delivering supplies to the shops. It was easy to walk anywhere and each little neighbourhood had everything people need - including food, amenities, public buildings, stores, rail transport and buses. Very different from the Canada and the USA where you usually need a car or bus to do anything. Japanese streets were inconvenient for car traffic and meant you could walk, safely, even in the middle of the road. Finally, people who live on these narrow streets set up little gardens of flowers, plants, trees, etc., on the roads for the pleasure of everyone. Even if there was no soil - gardens appeared in pots and containers with local shrines sometimes dotted around. Very 'human and humane' cities. Japanese cities really supported their citizens making a minimalist lifestyle easier and pleasurable.
Since I started watching your videos, I decided to go minimalistic. After all, we do not take anything with us in the afterlife. 🤷 PS: I can't wait to read your book, for advice more than anything, since you have mastered being a minimalist. 🍀
Usui-san, thank you for this video. I am impressed by the Muji bed and might get one. Your micro apartment is perfect for you, especially if the zombie apocalypse happens. I look forward to reading your book.
I think your micro apartment is wonderful! If I had the same layout the only thing I would need to change is a taller bed to fit more storage under (because I am not a minimalist and have too much clothing 😆).
I don't think I could ever truly be that minimalist, but I do like to balance out minimalism with my desire to own stuff. It makes purchasing items easier because I only get things that I truly want (and not shop in excess) or I buy things that offer multiple functions. I also invest in higher quality products so that there is less need to buy more. Currently, I still own too many things, but the process of purging is ongoing and I hope to get to a point where I can have only my most favorite things even if it isn't super minimalist.
I think that the under floor storage is originaly intended to food, the way we used to have root cellars and pantries(that were cool dark areas. You only get the under floor storage with ground floor apartments though.
This is a true mini, but it has space for your necessities including toilet paper storage. No shoe cabinet, however, and because you don't cook you don't need a refrigerator.

Proof you don't need a lot to be happy. A simple life with no clutter and a clear mind. This is a peaceful life. Stay happy, Sir
Felicidade?
😂
No tendrás nada y serás feliz. Pura agenda 2030. Mamma mia.
Maybe you😅😅😅@@morgana1962
absolutely. I love the efficiency of this. Just what you need to be comfortable and no more. I would seriously consider something like this is I were younger. I could have saved so much more money in life. Sigh.😢
I love his way of thinking. He spends money for quality.
Porém acho cama mais confortável
when i was studied in Japan, i was also living in a micro apartment in Hachioji, Tokyo. but lucky me, the cabinet is big that I can put my 2 big lugguages, a vacuum cleaner and of course, clothes! and the best is, there's a small balcony that I can dried my clothes after washing 😁😁
ahh, miss the moment living in Japan ne~~ 😌😌
You love your micro/minimalist space as it is and it seems to serve you perfectly. But I would prefer a small bedside table or cabinet with a drop leaf on its left side to serve as a desk. Then your lazy self would never have to fold and stow it under the bed. On that bedside stand, a table lamp could live. Warm, soft light might really enhance your feeling of well being and would be nice for reading books.
Of course, even a garden would be relaxing, but not at Tokyo prices😁.
Me encantaría poder leer algún día tu libro Usui! 🙂
BTW, I'd love to purchase your book when you release it. 🎉
Nesouloží u sebe. Ale u přítelkyně. 😂😂😂
Awww welcome back, i miss your video ❤ 😊
Wow, I loved how detailed you are showing everything, how they worked, and how much they cost.
this was a wonderful peek further into your life. very interested to hear why you chose to live minimally when you're ready to tell the story :) great video, thank you !
Knowing everything you own to this degree is commendable ☺️
I love watching your videos and if you ever end up publishing your book, I would love to read it.
I agree about a decent bed, it makes life so much easier.
I am fascinated by your minimalism, smart lifestyle, very exemplary. It requires a lot of discipline and deprivation, but is certainly liberating. Greetings from Austria!
Thank you for sharing! Lol my two pairs of shoes are Asics as well.....but not the same color as yours 😂🤣
Since I'm on my feet my whole shift at work they have been the most comfortable for me. 😊
One of my bed sitters in London in the 90s had an awesome double Murphy bed. Very comfortable, but the downside was that the metal frame amplified the sound of underground trains below! 😂
Washer-dryer? kitchenette? toilet-shower? you are already better than any New York city micro apartments.
South African here. Thank you for giving currency in ZAR as well😊
I always wondered where do you keep your clothes! And now I have the answer. I son't think a micro apartment life it's for me as I love to cook and have nice tableware but I love to see how other people live. The only thing missing to your house in my opinion is a plant friend to keep you company! Thanks for the tour! Also luckily you chose the bed cause i can't imagine sleeping in a hammok or folding bed every night is good for your back
Always, always have a plan for the zombie apocalypse. Thank you for sharing, So long, and thanks for all the fish.
Thanks for your comment!😊🧟
And 42!!🐬
Brilliant setup for a crowded world!
Wow! I would complete it with the following:
- coffee machine
- kettle (for tea)
- mug
- cutlery
- 2 wine glasses
- pictures on the wall
- little fridge (could be placed on the washing machine)
And I would choose a smaller chair and a smaller washing machine with a built-in-construct (for the reason that it looks nice).
Personally Ms Nicole I would get rid of the coffee machine and just keep the kettle because you can use it for anything that needs some boiling hot water
@ A really good coffee needs either a stovetop or a coffeemashine. I do have an italian barista mashine.
I love your little place. So simple and easy. I would need pictures on the walls through.
Since I started watching your videos, I decided to go minimalistic. After all, we do not take anything with us in the afterlife. 🤷
PS: I can't wait to read your book, for advice more than anything, since you have mastered being a minimalist. 🍀
The other good thing about minimilism is that you have less to clean/maintain, which give you more time for living.
Great micro-apartment, the storage in the floor surprised me!
The perfect book for your emergency pack! As a life-long fan of the Hitch-hikers books, it is a wise and uplifting book.
42!😎
@@usui503😮 well now you know " so long and thanks for all the fish " 👍🇦🇺🤣🤣🤣
It's good that you can lock the bathroom if you have guests.😂 Thanks for the interesting insight!
I honestly can't imagine having guests over. Hope there are a lot of café's/parks etc around for meeting up with friends a/o family.
Hi Usui! Thank you for sharing so much of your life with us in this video. I love it. I think you live the sweetest way and I wish I could live the same. ❤
Home Sweet Home! 😁👍
Your video is so therapeutic! I love your simple and clutter free life! ❤
You are so close to the 100,000 subscribers mark and get you silver play botton plack. This is not the time to quit.
You placed our little South African Rands as one of the currencies! I almost had a heart attack from surprise (and gratitude) 😂
So happy to have discovered your channel. Always so calming but also informative and fun!
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting to see the apartment and how you managed to live there! 👍🏻🇸🇪
