And don't even get me started on Indonesians. This kinda makes sense though - from the perspective of Europeans those Asian powers were faraway peoples, often lumped together. Sometimes less flavour is more flavour...
Yeah, Iberia did receive a greater level of attention, as that was the primary focus of the mod, before it started, in a sense, expanding outwards. On the top of that, in many cases, potential civilization options ended up having to be generalized and, at times, even discarded either due to lack of proper resources (as each new civ in PCM needs an UU, a SU and a Wonder 😅) or a proper convincing outline.
I remember discovering that mod 10 yrs ago. Best mod beside Forgotten imo. Edit: Daniel was/is btw also involved in Wars of Liberty, a mod for AoE 3 that is also very ambitious.
I remember the Forgotten Empires devs admitting that they were planning to add Portuguese civ before replacing it with Italians. Aside from PCM, the Realms mod was also ahead of its time and created many of the civs like Berbers, Burmese, etc. with civ bonuses like Castle Age cavaliers, all being implemented in DE. Sadly, the only mod left ignored ended up being Chivalry: Hegemony.
I do recall that, back on the early days of the FE mod, when that AoCZone thread had been set up, at one point, the Portuguese were listed as a potential civ option. In any case, yeah, in a sense, I'm glad it didn't get added back then XD
14:51 To be fair, garrisonable herdables had been done by Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds long before any of this. It is interesting that it was on an Indian civ in both the mod and DoI though.
The best mod I definitely played in legacy aoe2. If folks are interested am happy to play the rest of the civs in the mod even against bots as this revolutionized the aoe2 experience way ahead of it's time. As far as being used instead of the forgotten I would imagine chronicles of greece needing a 5th age too which would of been funny for them to design and basically would of turned aoe2 into a civ 6 type timeline which isn't a bad thing.
This truly need some good soul from AoE Heaven to make a tutorial for modding noob like me on how to make it work on the Steam HD version. I always wanted to be able to play both Portuguese Mod and Chilvary since I learn of their existence...
Hey there! The tool linked in the video's description should allow you to 'create' a legacy AoE2TC installation out of your AoE2HD Steam install. All that needs to be done is downloading and installing and, once its main window opens, select the option to perform the 'HD to AoC' conversion. When the small window pops up with the additional settings for the conversion, make sure to take note of the destination directory, where the 'converted' legacy AoE2TC installation will be available once the conversion process is complete. After that, you'll be able to play any mods intended for the original AoE2TC, like PCM or Age of Chivalry, by installing them into that directory shown in the tool.
@@danielrodriguesaoe Oh, what a honor! My problem is: I install the file, but when I press "Verify", it say Age of Empires HD not found. Verified files on Steam, deactivated mods and then using compability with XP Pack 3 I finally was able to play
would have loved to see a ship with smaller cannons. It still irks me how even in imperial age most ships fight with ancient techs and cannons are a total novelty
It's a great mod, but there is no way they would choose it over the Forgotten Empires as the official dlc for the game. It changes way too much from the base game compared to the Forgotten Empires, which basically just adds a few civs and some new mechanics that are not too invasive or complex. I always felt like the Forgotten Empires mod was the closest we ever got to an official DLC for AoE2 back in the days before HD so it really makes sense.
I remember seeing this mod way back when, didn't play it much because I don't like skirmishes vs AI lol. But I'm happy that Daniel was hired by the devs, I really like that FE grabs people who are truly passionate about the game, I feel like that is rare nowadays.
Civ 3 music at start is on point. Never heard of this mod, but it is kinda peculiar to see some of the ideas I thought were fresh to instead have been modded a long while ago. Then again, most of the content in DE expansions is, well, at least inspired by mods. I think Dharma, Romae ad Bellum, Age of Chivalry: Hegemon and, well, Filthydelphia's mods account for most of the groundwork. Guess Mountain Royals is the only one I can't connect to any mod, but there's been a metric amount of theory crafted for Georgians and Armenians that it isn't hard to find ideas for them anywhere. And, well, I guess the AoE2 Romans are held up by old Roman additions from The Forgotten, which in turn are from the OG Rome at War mod back in 2001. Mods always were a source of inspiration for the developers, at least in part because there are modders being employed as Age of Empires developers, lmao. I think the most proliferous mod is certainly Age of Chivalry: Hegemon, which inspired or provided content for, like, four different AoE2 expansions. This game has always been a passion project of the players as much as the developers. Kinda sucks that VnV didn't add Vandals, though..... Guess there aren't enough AoE2 mods for migration era civs.
wont happen, who tf would make aoe2 yt content these days aside from official affiliates of the crew at msoft, it was fully officially supported even by GameRanger under a separate entry, there were always a few rooms open, and its stuff was 1:1 stolen by DE, and if u were there back then u couldve seen chivalry being killed by prly same few 'german' shills who later prly became somehow profiting from the DE team... they swarmed the forum and later dc server, gatekeeping everyone else out until they got Kor to deform the mod into their lame krautasy and then just left it to die...
I dont like most of the complexity, but adding the wonder age through building a wonder would be an interesting change. I often find wonders to be underutilized. I just dont know what the bonus should be, as an across the board miltary bonus would mean who ever builds the wonder wins. Perhapse an aura that bosts building production and units that are near the wonder.
