Great review! In the long run I personally felt this version was too expensive, so I may get him if he pops up second hand. As for his appearance, I like his face and the blue eyes don't bother me that much. It's his standard teddy bear body that I dislike. Since I sleep with my WoW Teddy I always prefer to lay on his chest and with the new one, well lest just say he's more face than he is body. Even the photos on the box show is body to be fuller and chubbier vs the Teddy you actually receive. Also I must say I also agree that the eyes definitly needed eyelids. I'm actually surprised you liked him as much as you do and I think it's really sweet. Looking forward to more content :) ~Amber

Great review! I've got the Target exclusive Teddy and it's much easier to reach the buttons (still no cut-out notch, but it's definitely more accessible than the standard WCT Teddy. It's almost like the previous releases).
Thank you so much!! Yeah, the eye animations match the story. Like, if Teddy is talking about snow, there will be little snowflakes falling across his eyes. It's really cute! And you're right that the jaw is connected and controlled by a single digital motor. There's no subtlety to the movements at all like in the original Teddy, he can sadly only move his mouth up and down. As far as I know, he can't be used as a bluetooth speaker. They did the eyelid thing for their Cabbage Patch toy, why not this? Well, if I do remember it correctly, some guy from the company said, “Well, wouldn’t the kids be creeped out if the tv turned off and it was black? Wouldn’t the screens on the iPads creep them out if the screen turned black when it shut off? No, they won’t be creeped out by it and neither will they be creeped out with the new Teddy. If they are a little creeped out though, they can just put on the sleep mask.”, which is _definitely not horrible logic._
But they're supposed to be EYES. Not a TV screen. And remember what Blue said. The 3-year old kids that these are targeted for are not going to remember to put the mask on. Not only that, but are they even aware of what can happen to toy accessories? THE KIDS WHO HAVE THEM CAN LOSE THEM. Once the mask is long gone, whether it be under the bed or in an old, inaccessible closet, the first thing that's gonna happen is that, whenever the Illiop of theirs is not turned on, the black holes in his face will be the kids' distraction to almost every situation.
Looking back I don't mind this version that much but the thing going on with the lcd eyes entering sleep mode is pretty damn weird. At the very least with the 2012 Furbys they have a real functioning eyelid piece that goes over their lcd eyes when entering sleep mode. But here there's nothing and it's pretty ridiculous
target teddy owner here he has the same velcro setup as the wow ted but theres no cutout for the buttons or anything the mask sits in a pocket centered to the back i keep the mask off just to not lose it, you get used to the eyes when you have 2012 era furbies with bright screens for eyes

As far as I know there aren't any digital tracks available for download online anywhere... I've made some in the past by using a standard audio cable and recording to my PC from a cassette player. That's probably going to be the easiest way to do it.

not going to lie, back in early 2017 before the WCT teddy ruxpin came out i literally found every reason to hate him. but now that i got one back near christmas of 2017 at toys r us i got one and the only thing i have a problem with are the eyes and him looking younger than normal. i think he’s supposed to be 16 if i remember correctly? but he’s so soft and cuddly and i love it. also i don’t really think WOW toys were really meant to be picked up by kids that much and just supposed to sit there unless if you were changing the tape. i could be wrong but that’s how i just see it.
Hey Blue Octopede. As a blind person who is very particular, here is what I think of the 2017 Teddy compared to the 1985 Teddy. I don't have any Teddy products, just a mother goose, but I have heard videos of teddies. The thing that I'm really upset about is that there is no dingalingalinga sound to turn the page, and that part of the first song in All about Bears is ruined because they took the part out about the koala sleeping then Grubby falling asleep. They should make a new version of Mother Goose. I'd buy it.

The USB port on Teddy Ruxpin is not USB-C, it's actually USB micro, the USB Port is used to copy stories you've downloaded from the Internet. It might be that your Teddy Ruxpin came with all the stories. The Story Of The Faded Fobs, Grundo Springtime Singtime, Double Grubby and Teddy Ruxpin Summertime became available in 2018 and the purchase process was in two stages. Firstly you need to connect Teddy to your computer and copy the stories to the books folder on Teddy's internal disk drive, then you need to purchase and unlock the stories. My Teddy Ruxpin did not come with the USB Micro cable, I had to supply my own. It's also worth pointing out, as you did, that WCT aren't supporting Teddy Ruxpin and so I don't think the stories are available anymore. The thing about the eyelids is completely valid, especially considering that, as I understand it, WCT's Cabbage Patch Doll does have mechanical eyelids which close when the toy is switched off. I also reviewed this Teddy Ruxpin, your review is much better than my own, though you're more than welcome to watch my review if you want to.
Believe it or not I'm not bothered or scared by Teddy Ruxpin's eyes when he's not switched on, I don't ever use the sleeping mask that came with my Teddy. One thing that does bother me, about my Teddy Ruxpin at least, is that he doesn't sit up on his own properly, he either falls backwards against the wall, or he tips forwards and lands on his face, I'm surprised he hasn't fallen over to one side and knocked over my Amazon Echo or my table lamp.

The original WOW Teddy to me will never be surpassed and is the absolute cutest of the cute. I did appreciate your explaining how the Bluetooth stories work with this newer TR, though, and the new tricks this version can do. The controls do seem good and well thought-out. Makes me think of how a WOW TR would work with Bluetooth instead of the cassettes...!

This was interesting since I knew next to nothing about it other than that it existed. I actually don't like the look of Teddy but not necessarily because of the design itself because it IS very cute. The issue I have with it, is that it doesn't really match the character. As Teddy Ruxpin is guiding the listener through stories it comes off as weird to hear a fairly mature-sounding voice and tone coming from a bear that looks like an infant and thus even younger than the target demographic. He looks like something you should be taking care of, rather than being read stories to. However, I do like the little touch of the animations of the eyes like the globe and such. I just think the appearance would be more suitable for a sort of baby Teddy Ruxpin-like toy rather than the regular one. The lack of eyelids is a particularly unfortunate design flaw and if I saw that as a kid it would terrify me to the point of being scared of the entire toy, my guess is that they were manufactured before they realized it was a problem. It seems like those actually working on the toy really wanted to make something special but those at the top didn't care about that and forced them to rush, leading to the end result being obviously unfinished. Which is unfortunate because the idea behind the toy is really interesting. Thanks for making this video, I think it was both informative and entertaining.
You know, you make a very good point about this Teddy looking too young. I'd never thought about that before! They even marketed him to much younger children too, I think. In-universe Teddy is 16 years old... I agree with you completely that there's a strong disconnect between how he looks and sounds!
I want to know what it takes to be a true Teddy Ruxpin collector. What do I need? What do I have to do? How do I find that eternal happiness with Teddy? I'm a little frustrated starting this journey again and want to know from someone who's an expert. ^^;
Good questions!! The eternal happiness part is easy, that just comes from simply being around Teddy! He radiates positive energy!! If you want to start collecting, I'd just go on Ebay and look for a Teddy that works, and then get a few tapes or book and tape sets. The books are easier to find, they tend to turn up all over thrift stores so you might not even have to go online to find them. Then there's a matter of getting a Grubby, the cord that lets them connect, and all the accessories like the outfits... There's a lot of stuff that even I don't have yet, like play mats, posters, lunch boxes... Good luck!
My opinion: It's not really good, especially with the changes in his eyes and the lazy app design (They could've changed his design on the app too, similar to Yes! Teddy Ruxpin Books). The app's animation addition however is really awesome. 5/10
