I think one thing that makes it hard to get people into too is that the game is kinda hard to explain right off the bat. This would be fine but the tutorials are really stinkin long and drawn out so It's super difficult to have other people play at a party. Many won't know what they're doing but it will take like 15 mins with each person in order to get every concept
I got DJ Hero 2 on a clearance sale for 20 dollars years ago and i would bring it to parties often. We used an old ironing board to plant the tables on there and play for hours, it was a classic time. This video made me wanna play it again, so i'll probably set it up during the holidays. Splendid job man. :)
I'm glad I grew up DJ Hero instead of Guitar Hero. Both games soundtracks hands down aged well and I still have some of the mixes from the first and second game in my head.
I have very recently got into DJ Hero. I was able to get a steal of both wii games and a turn table for $10 because the cords were slightly frayed and they didn't know if that would effect the gameplay (luckily it didnt). I really like almost all of the songs, I tend to prefer 1's music but I think the song list isn't complete without both games anyways. I found a lot of people really like this game too. I've played the game at 3 parties now and they all think it's super cool! As a kid I was heavily sheltered and so my mom didn't want me playing something with this music but I wish I was able to play it as a kid because I'm addicted to this game now. I'm glad I'm seeing more people talk about this. I think my favorite songs are the Californa Love Remix, In Da Club vs Low, Grapevine vs Feel Good Inc, and every Pitbull song. Pitbull is sooo good in remixes!
In a time when music games were oversaturated and uninspired, DJ Hero was genuinely creative and unique. Too bad it was sent to die by Activision. The devs behind this series deserved a hell of a lot better.
>Be me >Searching for project diva videos >Stumble upon your channel >Watch this video >Cry for the fact that there's no official release of the godly soundtrack of Dj Hero 1 and 2. Loved your video man, subscribed and I shall watch your other videos as well.
Yeah but the second game didn't let you play as Daft Punk so what's the point Edit: on a serious note this was a great video. Despite not being super excited by rhythm games it's fun hearing the thoughts of someone who is! Kinda wanna find copies of these two at some point now....
Deadmau5 Tiesto and David Guetta I loved playing as in dj hero 2 I actually never played the first game but seeing daft punk in it I wana play it desperately
1) excellent content, will subscribe 2) euphoria actually crossfades for you, so you get x8 and only need to focus on the hits and scratches 3) play thumper.
I absolutely adore the DJ Hero series and still own both games with my turntable controller. Such a shame when they were in the process of making a 3rd for it to get cancelled in preproduction due to such abysmal sales...
I had DJ Hero 1 on the wii and I loved every second of it. Really wish I got 2 but I think that one came out when I had to give up video games for a year to make sure I didn't fuck up my final school exams. Great video dude! Can't wait to see more from you.
I would love to hear your thoughts on beatmania IIDX! The thing I like the most about it and the BMS community in general is the fact that all hitsounds are custom. It's one of the most satisfying rhythm game to me because at a high level you're literally playing the music by pressing the keys, and the background music is only made of pads and some incidental percussions. Of course it remains super satisfying to play at lower levels (which is still where I'm at). That and th crazy niche community around it make it worth taking a look into in my opinion! Just looking up BMS or BOFU on SoundCloud showed me the sheer variety of music made especially for the people who emulate it with Lunatic Rave 2, and it's all just made for the love of it! Some of my favorite producers from deemo got known by making BMS charts.
I've really enjoyed what I played of BMS, I just wish that LR2 weren't so hard to setup and that the BMS files and skins were more readily available. Finding a good song pack was hell for me, and after resetting my harddrive and losing all of the songs I had I have no idea how I'd go about finding them again. Oh, and if you haven't already, I'd recommend checking out all of the other Bemani games as well, as they're all very well made and have great selections of music (even though it's a bit hard to play any outside of Asia lol).
We all become more self aware at sometime, Realise we like some things, realise we arent straight, start hating our syntax.... hh joe you made me existential at 4am
I never got around to 2 but I fucking loved the first DJ Hero. Nice to see the franchise getting some attention. Especially the soundtrack. These soundtracks rule.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's obsessed with DJ Hero (mostly 2). My love for the DJ Hero franchise would also be massively increased due to my neighbors. During my young childhood, I had 2 neighbor kids who had their own turn table/dj set, and I thought it was cool as hell. We would also host multiple neighborhood events, some indoors, some outside. Sadly, I wouldn't see them as much after elementary school. Between the franchise and my childhood, I always wanted to learn (and still do) to play myself.
Love your delivery style. You detail things to just the right amount, and yet, y'know, quality bants in there too. Nice choice to show the camera of the controller in action along with the gameplay as well - sweet touch. I hope you continue your future turntablism.
I picked up DJH1&2 for the wii, hooked it up to my PC using Dolphin and I've been having a blast. The game is just pure euphoria, and as you said, songs you barely care about mix together to be fucking awesome.
The DJ Hero games are among the very few Hero games I legit wanted to buy and play but never could but I'm glad to see someone loving this game. This is a good video. Also, to have so little views, you got a very good reception/comments on this video. Good on you.
I love the DJ Hero series! Owned both and have sold & bought them again 3 or 4 times in my life. Just because I would get the urge to play! Great part game with awesome music. If you haven't played them then you can still pick up DJ Hero 2 with the turntable plus DJ Hero 1 in the bundle for next to nothing. You owe it to yourself!
Still occasionally play it every month, So criminal how unnoticed this series went, way more satisfying and visually appealing then the rest of the Hero series, The soundtrack was way more fun to listen to as well, and it kills me that I never got all the DLC around the time it was still out :s
I don't blame you for not liking guitar hero based on the first 2 games because they're honestly not that great. They're basically groundwork for 3 which was when the series really kicked off and got alot better quality wise and it didn't feel as slow and clunky as the first two. The best option tho is to just play clone hero so you can download any chart of any game or any fanmade thing you'd want
It would be cool to see more rhythm games base their gameplay around turntable type mechanics, but that might require physical hardware to execute properly.
thank you for this i feel like no one ever touches on this game that much you're like the first i've seen that reacts to this game with anything other than disgust or indifference also it'd be interesting to see how you feel about Sound Voltex or KShootMania though i dunno how accessible those would be to you considering they're best played at an arcade or with the arcade controller
the crazy movement is definitely what made me love the original cytus. higher difficulty stuff like storia and area 184 platinum mix made you feel like a god when you hit the spammier sections and clear god tier drag sections and then we have shit like the original area 184 and halcyon. WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO HALVE THE BPM
I picked up a copy of DJ Hero 2 for $1 and one of the controllers for $5 just to have a good laugh later. I played it later that night with some other people, and we were all very impressed with how actually good and fun it was. Ever since that night they've all been wanting to play a bit more. That being said, I didn't particularly enjoy the setlist, but that's just a testament to how good the gameplay is to really keep me playing I guess.
Glad you have a new video, thank you for your work. Gotta turn that 1.1k in to atleast 50k sooner than later because your product is very nice and clean, you should be up there with the other channels. I remember when Caddicarus started, he had like 10k, i watched his 6 or 7 videos and im like (unionically) "This guys going places". Well look at him now. Anyway, i look forward to your future success.
I dug up DJ Hero 2 a year or two ago, and (after getting a turntable that actually detected scratching...) absolutely fell in love. I know constantly gush about how I love the game and tried many many many times to get my friends into it so I had someone to play against. (BTW: If you do happen to play vs with someone play the vs specific mixes, the songs are amazing. Super Battle Breaks and Your a jerk being my favs)
As someone who "platinum'ed" all 3 persona dancing games I can tell you something is very wrong about how you experienced that franchise. The beats are usually pretty well synced to the rhythm of the songs; mostly to the drums patterns, but not exclusively. And I say that because that's my biggest pet peeve for making me hate a rhythm game: feeling like it does not respect the rhythm of its songs and that it becomes only a visual challenge. I feel like it's a really unfair characterization of the franchise you are making. We all have preferences regarding rhythm mapping, but to say PD does not use rhythm is just not true when I can play a lot of song parts without focusing on the screen.
Oh, I played DJ Hero, 1 & 2. I loved both games, and I actually know about turntablism. In fact, I've been fantasizing about scratching records thanks to DJ Jazzy Jeff, Will Smith's friend back when he was known as Fresh Prince. When I first heard what could be achieved on those turntables, I was hooked! As for the game, it's real damn shame how the series went down, but everyone got tired of the genre all together. No more plastic instruments, etc. Plus, I'd say the line-up in DJ Hero 2 was kinda weaker compared to the first. I mean, they mashed up We Will Rock You and Robot Rock, and that was the best mix I ever heard in my life! But to be fair, the soundtrack pretty much reuses a lot the same songs and remixes them with others to make it sound original, which works out fine.
I have both games on PS3, so I'm already covered. Also, I still enjoy coming back to games like Rock Band just for the experience if nothing else, as it was quite a novelty for the time that can still be fun depending on how you look about it. Also, Rock Band's backstories were more grounded and realistic compared to the background premise of Guitar Hero. Well, except for Live of course! DJ Hero was overlooked just because it was a spin-off of Guitar Hero that didn't appeal to the same demographic, and that's why we haven't seen anything more from it since the sequel. Though it would be nice if there was a new DJ based rhythm game that tried something different to appeal to a modern gaming market, even if it would be a very risky move.
DJ Hero was a pretty good game, but for me, it had a few flaws. Just to clarify, yes "turntablism" is a real word, it was coined back in the 90s by DJ Babu (from The Beat Junkies and Dilated Peoples), along with the word "turntablist" as a way to differentiate themselves from traditional DJs who just play records. I started DJing in 1992 and loved turntablism (and still do), so by the time DJ Hero was released I was a competent DJ, but when I played the game for the first time I was awful. I'm sure you've heard many guitarists play Guitar Hero and say it's not really like playing a real guitar, but for a DJ playing DJ Hero the difference between the game and real life is even greater, so for me it was really weird to play, it was like having to unlearn what I already knew, the sounds didn't always match what you were doing on the controller. With Guitar Hero, the switch on the body and the buttons on the neck corresponded with what you’d be doing on a real guitar (albeit in a very simplified way), but in DJ Hero there were times where the game would indicate you move the platter in time to a sound which is actually made using the crossfader. It’s as if the makers of the game didn’t realise that the crossfader is an integral part of scratching, it’s not just moving the platter back and forth. The other problem I had was the choice of music. I know it’s the same with Guitar Hero, no one is going to love every song, but I feel that DJ Hero’s track selection covered a much broader range of music than Guitar Hero. With Guitar Hero, the songs all came from the same genre, sure they cover many different sub-genres, but they are fairly closely related when compared to DJ Hero. I can’t stand the like of David Guetta, but to me DJ Qbert is one of the greatest DJs of all time and the reason I started DJing in the first place, their music is poles apart, more than any two bands in Guitar Hero, and worse than that DJ Hero has songs by people like Lady Gaga and the Pussycat Dolls, and that shit is just offensive to my ears. It would be like playing a Motörhead song on Guitar Hero and then having to play something by Simon & Garfunkel.
I love DJ Hero 2. I listen to the songs all the time. I’m surprised you said nothing about it DJ Battles. That’s one of my favorite parts of the game. Also Show me love vs I’m not alone is best song.
great video man, I'm not too fond on DJ hero's soundtrack but I'll definitely play it especially since CEX sell it on 360 with the turn-table for £3, THREE FUCKING POUNDS, you can't go wrong with that.
I play dj hero 2 I rember my brother got it he did play it And I rember being "good" but it was real fun Also remember playing American boy and ABC vs informer
I bought this months ago when I discovered this video. Thanks for having a good review. *Also I got DJ Hero 1 with the turntable bc the set was cheap as heck at 2nd & charles.
I did play it. I had played too much beatmania IIDX to be REALLY into it but it was nice. Until the controllers just, passively combusted. I have two controllers, one came with DJhero for PS2 and one came with PS3 pack that had both DJhero games. Both controllers have issues tracking the turntable. Because the turntable is emulating an analog stick and faster it is spinning the "more" it is "pushing" into one analog direction instead of a dial type analog input like IIDX controllers with analog input, they really are tracking badly and getting rewinds work sometimes takes a laggy while or does not trigger at all. One of my two controllers also has the crossfader in finnicky state so the center sometimes is jumpy and jumps randomly between left or right. DJhero, even 2 is kinda easy, but they are fun, but worst part is the VERY poor quality controllers where game has as heavy dependence on analog control as Sound Voltex, or as we know it in "the business" - "WOBBLE KNOBBLES" - the controllers are far too easily harmed to the point where the controllers are far too detrimental to enjoyment of the game. I have my controllers in one meter's lenght but I never felt taking either for a spin because I was too disappointed last time. That aside, I remember a lot of reviewers who did get their hand on DJhero and 2, the original mixes are damn fine and both games have a fun and nice feel and... IF NOT FOR THE DAMN CONTROLLERS. and I am a guy who can open his shit. I changed thermal paste in my PS3 and changed shells on my xbox 360 and modified a Xbox original by hotswapping the IDE cable of the HDD to a PC while the console was powered on. All this yet I can open the DJhero controllers only to say "I cannot do anything to fix them" . Remember that the one change beatmania IIDX had in west, USA specifically, was killed by people calling it a guitar hero clone. The game that was there before DDR, and guitar freaks, which is the game that redoctaine wanted to bring but konami didn't so they took their Guitar Freaks controller and got Guitar Hero for it. And that game, years before even the game Guitar Hero involunteeraly cloned, was copying Guitar Hero according to journalists circa 2004-2006 I hate this industry. fuck DJhero needed just better quality controllers to have longer life. Because I called it easy, but I did not call it unfun. What the game looses in being generally too easy even on hardest, it wins with fun original mix-tracks, fun visuals and FUN... MINUS THE CONTROLLERS BREAKING FROM MEAN STARE.
Woah woah woah woah woah hold on a second. Discovered your channel recently, good shit, but what's so wrong with Lanota??? Deemo is peak though I agree.
teddy derps I definitely plan on doing a thoughts video on Cytus Alpha when that comes out, as for Cytus II, I’m prolly gonna wait till a complete edition comes out on consoles like their other games.
DJ Hero 1 ruined some music I already enjoyed. Like I used to unironically enjo Fix Up, Look Sharp by Dizzee Rascal but now it feels really empty without Genesis by Justice eating up the instrumental.
Elliott Belardo I’m unlikely to do one on account of it being a little on the simplistic side for a full video and I haven’t played it as extensively as other rhythm games, but in short, the UI’s a mess, the song list is cluttered and segmented and the charting and visuals are poorly designed. As much as I love Sta, it’s basically a poor man’s Cytus I.
You're totally right. I did not play DJ Hero XD I remember trying the first game out in like a Best Buy or something and just not liking it very much, but I did enjoy this video. It was a good look at not just the game itself, but your own personal views on rhythm games as a whole. I am curious given your disdain for P4D if you thought P3D/P5D were a continuation of that or if they did manage to improve the actual rhythm aspects. It'd be kind of interesting if they did feel like they had a stronger rhythm element while the two failed in nearly all other regards compared to the first game.
Yes i have DJ Hero 2 on Wii version dolphin emulator, i was played of freaking Empire so i got 325 Stars so from now i am the best dj ever. Oh and i like music The Prodigy: Firestarter, Omen, Invaders must die. Daft punk: Human after all. And Deadmau5: Ghost and stuff. Are this Mixes awesome.
No rhythm game beats dance dance revolution x on the ps2 for me it has some of my fav songs and is the first game i genuinely got better in on purpouse
just bought both DJ Hero Games though, and online still works on the wii u... OK. Also, Bought 1st game w/controller for $25 then got the sequel for $1 XD
guitar hero absolutely killed rhythm games in the west when it flooded the market with like seven fucking titles in a year also where the hell was pop'n music in the rhythm game rankings you FOOL
Okay... Guitar Hero: Metallica was... good... the music options are well.... Metallica.... but it is great for Metallica fans... and boy are there alot of em'.
2:40: Your sales figures are WAY off. Those were just for the first month. And for a video called "Not enough of you played DJ Hero", you didn't show enough of DJ Hero, instead opting to show other crappy Sony rhythm games. What an effing waste of my time.
I think one thing that makes it hard to get people into too is that the game is kinda hard to explain right off the bat. I like your outro song - M2U's Masquerade
With all your thoughts on rhythm games, I'd love to hear your take on beat saber
Fucking YES! I used to play this as a kid and it was amazing! That was, until my turntable broke and my parents wouldn't buy me another one.
"Has like 2 good songs"
My fucking chest
I fucking love this game, it's sad how niche rhythm games are outside of japan
I would love to hear your thoughts on beatmania IIDX! The thing I like the most about it and the BMS community in general is the fact that all hitsounds are custom.
I’d love to see you play Beatmania with the appropriate controller. Since you like DJ hero so much I think Beatmania would be your cup of tea.
Indeed a great presentation. You know how to talk. Keep up the great work.
great video man, I'm not too fond on DJ hero's soundtrack but I'll definitely play it especially since CEX sell it on 360 with the turn-table for £3, THREE FUCKING POUNDS, you can't go wrong with that.
i love this video thank you kind sir for showcasing this game i love most
also did you know that fan made dj hero mixs are about?
And here I was thinking I was the only person that ever enjoyed DJ Hero, never played the sequel though.
Dj hero 2 is my favorite game when I was young. I bought dj hero 2 again And my goal is to fc every song
So Joe any thoughts on Donkey Konga series and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat?
I play dj hero 2
I rember my brother got it
he did play it
And I rember being "good" but it was real fun
Also remember playing American boy and ABC vs informer
Beatmania IIDX nuff said
Does IIDX have custom songs though?
I bought this months ago when I discovered this video. Thanks for having a good review.
*Also I got DJ Hero 1 with the turntable bc the set was cheap as heck at 2nd & charles.
Hey, I really enjoyed this!
And that game, years before even the game Guitar Hero involunteeraly cloned, was copying Guitar Hero according to journalists circa 2004-2006
I hate this industry.
fuck DJhero needed just better quality controllers to have longer life. Because I called it easy, but I did not call it unfun. What the game looses in being generally too easy even on hardest, it wins with fun original mix-tracks, fun visuals and FUN... MINUS THE CONTROLLERS BREAKING FROM MEAN STARE.
Joez you should definitely try out DJMax Respect for PS4!! I would love to hear your opinion on the game.
Wait, you hate Lanota?! Now I'm VERY interested.
Are you in the DJ Hero discord? it would be amazing if you were
Haha and then there’s fucking Bemani.
Woah woah woah woah woah hold on a second. Discovered your channel recently, good shit, but what's so wrong with Lanota??? Deemo is peak though I agree.
Which guitar hero had drums?
I played a lot of that one.
Any thoughts about cytus a or cytus 2 plot cause i woukd like to see a video about it even though I think you said you stopped playing the game
teddy derps I definitely plan on doing a thoughts video on Cytus Alpha when that comes out, as for Cytus II, I’m prolly gonna wait till a complete edition comes out on consoles like their other games.
@@joezcafe you do you also love your vids :)
teddy derps Thanks, hope you stick around~!
DJ Hero 1 ruined some music I already enjoyed. Like I used to unironically enjo Fix Up, Look Sharp by Dizzee Rascal but now it feels really empty without Genesis by Justice eating up the instrumental.
I recently started playing again and change clothes by jay z is ruined for me. I need all eyes on me instrumental over it now
You ever give dropmix a go?
I'm REALLY REELING IT
Oh, and uhh... outro song? May i know what it is?
What the flip is a DJ Hero 2?
**raises hand**
Do a Tone Sphere review, since I'm interested in why you hate it
Elliott Belardo I’m unlikely to do one on account of it being a little on the simplistic side for a full video and I haven’t played it as extensively as other rhythm games, but in short, the UI’s a mess, the song list is cluttered and segmented and the charting and visuals are poorly designed.
As much as I love Sta, it’s basically a poor man’s Cytus I.
Very good video. I think you could be quite popular if you uploaded more consistantly. Subbed.
Strain42 weird seeing you here. I like your videos dude

I have both the first and second games on XBOX if you wanna play online
Persona 3 and 5 dancing are a little better at Rytem than 4 I love p3 and 05 there the best games I’ve ever played on my ps4
DJ Hero 2 is the shit
play guitar hero 3. The soundtrack for that is fire.
guitar hero absolutely killed rhythm games in the west when it flooded the market with like seven fucking titles in a year
also where the hell was pop'n music in the rhythm game rankings you FOOL
Yeah DJ Hero was the shit.
Okay... Guitar Hero: Metallica was... good... the music options are well.... Metallica.... but it is great for Metallica fans... and boy are there alot of em'.
this doesn't have anything to do with the video, which I loved btw, but you should play arcaea and its on mobile so yeah
2:40: Your sales figures are WAY off. Those were just for the first month.
And for a video called "Not enough of you played DJ Hero", you didn't show enough of DJ Hero, instead opting to show other crappy Sony rhythm games. What an effing waste of my time.
I think you should be less rude and angry
DJ Hero 1 did have the better soundtrack tho
