Can you imagine going back to music after your life is turned upside down? Damn, i have ma respect for Terry Six, not just as a great guitarist but as a person who was able to triumph over the loss of his friends.
Anyway the true story was that in winter 95 me and Muzz got drunk on 40s and Gabe came home. He said we needed jobs working for Johnny Paycheck at Freddies...that's where it all started in 96 - that magical year.
On one hand this song is about Johnny Jewel but it's darker than that. The last time I saw the Exploding Hearts they opened for Buzzcocks and they blew everyone away - but to Gabe and me they were a little younger super braves - and when their bus crashed on interstate five - the band my dad played in who leant me my red harmony that I played in SAB - I broke down. I became paranoid - I still can't be in a car for over an hour without freaking out - and I smashed that Red Harmony drunk and alone outside Suburbia. Then Eliot Smith was murdered - I've killed myself with drugs if JR didn't take care of me - but always she was Straight Edge Red. 9/11 was a tribute to Art Terror - I wanted to die that year but Taps and Shane started the Neat with me as drum bunny and then the Nice Boys took over. I drummed in JR's groop and the Household Highs I played bass and a borrowed guitar in Slan - but I went nuts inside until Clayton, Taps, and Henry broke me out - Gabe and I bore the hardest burden as we'd co-managed- and here I go wanting an exit. I had one - In The Practice Space | Sewers Of Paris (bandcamp.com)
This and Glass Candy are the two ultimate PDX bands. I've heard demos from Gabe that'll blow yr mind crazy. Yeah - we were crazy kids growing up together - but now we're fat and forty just like the Sex Pistols!!!!
