To cast your vote using an EVM and VVPAT, follow these steps:
Arrive at the Polling Station:
On election day, go to your designated polling station.
Stand in the queue and wait for your turn.
Verification of Voter Identity:
Present your voter ID card or any other approved identification document to the polling officer.
They will check your name against the electoral roll and verify your identity.
Get Your Finger Inked:
Once your identity is confirmed, your left forefinger will be marked with indelible ink to prevent multiple voting.
Proceed to the Voting Booth:
You will be directed to the voting booth where an EVM is placed.
Voting with the EVM:
Inside the voting booth, you will find the EVM.
The EVM has a list of candidates and their respective symbols.
Press the button next to the candidate of your choice.
A light or beep will indicate that your vote has been registered.
Verify Your Vote Using VVPAT:
After casting your vote on the EVM, you will see a printed slip through the VVPAT machine.
This slip will display the candidate's name, symbol, and a verification code.
Make sure to verify that the printed information on the slip matches your chosen candidate.
The slip will be visible behind a transparent window for a few seconds before it gets automatically dropped into a sealed VVPAT box.
Deposit the Slip in the VVPAT Box:
If the printed information on the slip is correct, you don't need to do anything.
If there is any discrepancy, inform the polling officer immediately before leaving the voting booth.
Leave the Voting Booth:
Exit the voting booth and ensure that your left forefinger with the ink mark is clearly visible.
Receive a Voter's Slip:
Collect a voter's slip as proof that you have cast your vote.
Maintain Secrecy:
Voting is a secret process, so do not reveal your choice to anyone.
