Some serious planning went into this show. Notably here: after Rose told Garnet "no more questions," Garnet never asks another question. Not one. In the entire show!
@@guilhermefreire8352 I checked the episode transcript, and even then it's carefully phrased to not be a question. She says "It's up to you, Steven." She does say "Who know?" though, make of that what you will.
@@tritiumH3 Edit: Rebecca has said in the past that canonically Garnet isn't supposed to ask any questions after this episode. But Rebecca also does admit that she's made mistakes before, such as the line "Can't you see that my relationship is stable?" in "Stronger Than You". And Ian JQ seems to have the opinion that rhetorical questions don't count. Many of the questions Garnet has asked on the show are rhetorical. But there are also just a few mistakes, especially early on.
@@shipshow463 I think the rhetorical question thing is like, she can’t ever question something intending to have an answer as opposed to saying a sentence that happens to be a question.
@@SuperT Well, I personally feel like that too, and that seems to be Ian JQ's view on it. But Rebecca herself actually talked about this on the official SU podcast. There is an episode about Garnet and in it, Rebecca says, "No rhetorical questions! Nothing! Kat rakes me over the coals because I let through 'Can't you see that my relationship is stable?' Which, is in her mind, a question. But I think she's saying it as a statement. You're right, it's rhetorical. I messed up. I take full responsibility. Garnet never asks questions and there are a lot of references to this. That's what 'The Answer' is about." So if you wanna go by Rebecca's definition, then even she admits SU messed up. Which is fine, getting it right 99.9% of the time is a pretty good rate. Or you can just take a more lenient view of things and not count rhetorical questions or see them as statements.
7:24 "Don't ever question this" If you didn't notice, Garnet never ask any questions (unless rhetorically) And that's because of this moment She always gives answers or explain things
I think the flashback of Garnet is an allegory for same sex relationships, mainly after realizing you have these feels and the people around you thinking it's "wrong." The fact that they are much more together and away from naysayers and are encouraged by a positive person like Rose shows they are meant to be together. They truly love one another, and that's not wrong.
It’s always been my thought that Steven’s outer appearance has to do with how he feels. He was treated like a kid by the gems for so long, that his appearance didn’t change. Now he is taking responsibility for things and making friends, emotionally maturing. He spends time with Connie and he now feels like he has to get older, so I’ve always thought that after this episode he would essentially age normally.
I like that we see a reappearance of Sapphire's super-speed here. We see it very briefly in "Jail Break" too when she pulls Steven along to go meet with Ruby. I also love that they designed the bottom part of her dress to resemble a geode.
It wasn't included in this reaction but when Garnet and Greg are looking through some records for music to play, Greg briefly pulls out a record jacket that has a parody of Estelle's "Shine" album cover art. Estelle is the voice of Garnet, so that's a nice little homage to her.
I think it's very sweet that Steven assumes Connie will be president and he'll marry her. Steven does start growing a bit after this episode, it's subtle. But in the spin off show, he and Connie are college aged and he's grown up
Something cool: The melody Ruby and Saphirre were humming at the end of their song here was the same used in "Stronger than You" from the S1 finale. Also, to comment on something you both brought up when Rose met with Garnet: Yes, Rose is obviously compassionate and accepting, but notice how Rose said "How you feel is bound to be much more interesting" (That is, what Garnet feels/thinks since a cross-gem fusion is a brand new thing): As with her initial infatuation with Greg/humans (where when she and Greg talked, she initially said "I love humans, you're all so funny") Rose's open=mindedness and compassion seems to be as much selfish curiosity as it is kindness. She only learned to appreciate Greg as an individual later on after their talk.
Yeah like ruby said fusion between same gems is like “being me but bigger” or something like that. But Rose’s curiosity was for that combining of personalities. I never noticed the way Rose talked about humans but you’re right. I think she really really got it once she met Greg.
THANKYOUU FOR SAYING THIS. I've thought of this but couldn't really put it into words, but if we really notice the things Rose says and does its more patronizing than it is genuinly kind
My personal theory about Sapphire's future vision is that the reason it's so "accurate" in Gem society, is because of the rigidly-enforced roles in Gem society. Really what Sapphire's future vision does is calculate the most likely possibility for the future, but because Gem society is so rigid, it makes it very easy to predict how certain Gems will act, thus making a Sapphire's future vision usually very accurate. But when Gems act in ways outside of their assigned roles, it becomes much harder to predict how they'll react, thus making a Sapphire's future less accurate.
9:20 " Human beings? Human beings" Callback to the episode where they fused in front of Greg and he told Connie she can tell him about those things I like that sentence for them but everytime they say it Steven is also there and you can see on his face he's thinking about his gem half(grabbing his gem) excluding him from the ''human beings''
Only one thing i want to mention, Saphire wouldn't die in the episode ,she was just gonna poof and reform on homeworld where she would talk again with Blue Diamond. Being poofed isn't that bad.
There’s a very interesting detail about Garnet that’s never outright stated in the show, but The Answer gave us the origin of it. “No more questions. Don’t ever question this. You already are the answer.” If you’ve been paying attention through the series to this point, Garnet has never asked a single question. Everything has been reworded to a statement. Ruby and Sapphire can ask questions, but never Garnet, because of what Rose said to her. Just a brilliant minor detail about her character that I thought was worth mentioning
Guys i can't explain how exited i get when i see a notification to your videos especially when I see it's a Steven reaction, loving getting to watch the sires from start to finished with you guys its like I'm there with you (Ps let me tell you I love fist episode as we get to see more of Garnet and her backstory)
Having one single strand of bear hair at 14 isn't too unusual. I had one directly under past my chin at 15 and it was my only facial hair for two years straight before more started popping in.
Cartoon Network at this point just nailed characters like Penny (Gumball) and Connie (Steven Universe) They're some of my favorite characters just because of how smart they are and how much they care about the one they love
Man, I wish I had Garnet around to make me faces like that. Would feel better every single time. It's just. It gives me really bad cute aggression for some reason. "Meh meh meh". So cute 🥺😭
I'm obsessed with the very blunt roundabout admission from Steven that he envisions himself marrying Connie when he's older. "When Connie grows up and becomes president, what is that going to make me? First Boy???" Oh bless XD

12:41 - Pearl's reaction to baby Steven here is actually great foreshadowing because you expect Pearl to be the one more common to hold a baby.

The birthday crown and cape are actually back from "So Many Birthdays". It's Steven's "special birthday suit".

Whenever Steven gets reminded that he's not quite human and not quite Gem 😢. Poor dude really is one-of-a-kind.
Very sweet story between Ruby and Sapphire for sure also their first fusion form does look really wild and cool in it's own way

She said she would lose her physical form. She did, when she fused into Garnet.
@@TheCheese1988 loosing physical form also means poofing ,when pearl lost her she poofed .In the episode with sword fighting.
I think Ruby couldn't bare to watch Sapphire getting poofed, even if she would be okay later

Steven turned back into a baby. He look so adorable. He wanted to look older for Connie, but she liked him the way he is
👶👶👶😍😍😍

Rose Quartz is voiced by the great Susan Egan who played Meg in Disney’s Hercules
You'll love the next 2 episodes...
The tune that they hum is the same one Sapphire is singing in her cell during Jailbreak.
Oh yeah, it is.
its the chorus to stronger than you!
Which is also part of stronger than you
The Answer!!! The Answer!!! YAAAAY!
