- Sharon (not her real name) spotted a kitten in her apartment complex last December. She and some of the neighbors fed her and she grew. In late June she disappeared. Several weeks later she showed up with five sets of tiny paws and tails following her.
Sharon called her local animal shelter. When she presented them to customer service she was told "we have no room for them, we can't offer you any resources, not even spay neuter". When Sharon asked what she should do she was told "put them back where you found them."
In desperation she came to us. When I heard her story I called the organization she had gone to (yes, it was the right one for her jurisdiction). I left a voice mail and (nicely) asked them to call me because I had a customer come in with a mom and litter that should really be going to their shelter. I never received a call back.
Of course, we didn't let Sharon leave with the kittens that day. We intook them. They are safe, cared for and will be placed for adoption.
I am so disappointed - this is an organization I respected. Now I don't know what to thing.
PS - this is not the first time I've heard people reporting they were given similar "direction" so it's not a one off. Sadly.

Such a young momma. She doesn’t even look full grown.
She isn't, she's not even one year old. 😢
I believe a cat can get pregnant as young as 6 months. Dogs are the same. As soon s they have their first heat cycle, they are fertile.
@@1packatak it’s before they are full grown themselves.
@@kenyonbissett3512 yes!
My cat is 18 months old and she is as small as Mama Mia in this video. Some cats are just small.
i live in michigan in a city with a university. every May we get cats dumped in our neighborhoods from students who are unable to take them back home or are graduating and no longer want their cat. Our local shelters are already full and never want to take any more in( probably the reason why they just get dumped) I have a young boy kitty that I have been taking care of all summer. I cant get near him and because of my own boy cat I can not take him in. Winter is on its way. I did get him a heated cat house but so far he isn’t interested. This will be his first experience with a michigan winter. I wish we had more resources in my city
I would suggest finding out the name of that employees boss and telling them to educate their staff on proper procedures before law enforcement become involved...truly a sad story ...Thank you for trying to redirect and educate the public, but without adequate resources it will continue to be a monumental task
You ameritards... call a blue strike on everything....
God bless you for saving them❤❤❤❤
Exactly what happened to me. Told it will cost me money to take them to animal shelter. I am trying to get the females fixed first, but, there is 6! So pretty expensive and shelter won't do it for free anymore cuz they say they are my pets now!

New subscriber. Wonderful video
The Siamese father was the dominant gene, that's for sure...
I called and begged for my local rescue group and shelters but non are taking in kittens or provide free spay and neutering like they did a few years ago so we have to do all the work and pay for the procedure
My son rescued a little kitten from underneath a car hood at his job site. Nobody wanted it, so he brought it home. Our own cat does not get along with it. The shelters were already overcrowded and turned us away. Since then we try to find a forever home for him. To no avail!! He is fully vaccinated, 100 % clean and playful. We love him so much but we cannot keep him. Very sad!
It does take time for them to get along…but you can make it happen. Jackson Galaxy has a homeopathic remedy called Peacemaker. It helps them get along better!
Your own cat doesn't sound very confident. In cases like that the existing cat will not establish dominance. Put the kitten in a separate room to start off with then slowly introduce it back to the existing cat. First through smell, and then slowly start feeding them near one another. It will take anything from 3 weeks to 3 months for this to happen. I've also found that talking to the existing cat helps. They understand what you say to them. When I introduced mine to a kitten I told him, kitty here's to stay. You better get used to it because he's not going anywhere. A minute later, he started grooming the kitten and they were best friends since. Sadly both of them have passed on since.
This is getting more and more common, resulting in more pets being abandoned. If you really want to make changes NAME the organization that rejected these kittens. Otherwise you are speaking but saying nothing.
I ignore animal charity requests because of this. You only need to be turned away once to realise that you are being left to deal with any stray animals by yourself. I appreciate times are tough and money is short but getting female cats spayed before they get pregnant has to be a priority or you end up with more unwanted cats needing help. You can bury your head in the sand and ignore the problem or struggle to pay veterinary fees to prevent it getting worse and if you work and don't get any benefits then it all has to come out of your pocket. Anyone who takes the time to care should be supported and not turned away because we need to be working together to help animals.
Teenage pregnancy.
